Cowgirl Post

Musings about the Dallas Cowboys by a former-intern-still-sorta-intern-but-not really. Sure to be riveting.Tell me what you want to know. I'll find out. Tell me what you want to read about. I'll write. It'll be "good times," to quote a good friend of mine.

Terrell Owens Update

Update: 10:05 a.m.

In a press conference in front of the Dallas Police Headquarters just now, Lt. Rick Watson would not confirm or deny information about T.O. or whether he attempted suicide. Watson cited privacy laws and the fact that even if he did, it's not a criminal offense and would not comment or take questions. Watson handed out copies of the police report with parts redacted. As of right now, only one media outlet has a copy of the complete report. I wouldn't expect any more information until the Cowboys make a comment, if they decide to at all. As of right now, head coach Bill Parcells press conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Baylor will not release information or even confirm T.O.'s admittance to the hospital due to HIPPA privacy laws that prevent the release of medical information to anyone.

Update: Wednesday 8:45 a.m.

As of this morning, there has been a police report released to WFAA with the the reason T.O. was taken to the hospital last night. The report says he told police he took pain pills to try and harm himself. The police are calling it a suicide attempt. Check the main page for Mickey's story with the details.

Update: 10:55 p.m.

Another breaking news segment reports having seen T.O. being wheeled down the hall of Baylor in Dallas on a gurney with tubes in his nose. At first look, there was a sheet over his face, but it was pulled away and was then obvious that it was T.O. There were also reports that both Dallas fire and police departments responded before he was brought to the hospital. Two individuals along with medical personnel were with T.O. as he was being taken down the hall, according to the segment. T.O. reportedly had an adverse reaction to some of the medicine he was taking after his surgery early last week, but no one knows if that's related.

10:43 p.m.

A disclaimer: I have no Cowboys confirmation of this.

At the end of a newscast I was just watching there was a breaking news segment reporting that Terrell Owens has been taken by ambulance to Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. There is no information about his condition except that doctors are inducing vomiting. It is not known whether or not his condition is related to his hand injury or anything associated with it.

I will do my best to keep you posted. I have a friend in the public relations department with Baylor in Plano. I called her, and she is on alert for any news.

DALLAS -- Terrell Owens was taken to the emergency room Tuesday night after suffering an adverse reaction to painkillers taken for treatment of his fractured hand, a source close to Owens told ESPN's Ed Werder.

Doctors treating the Dallas Cowboys receiver were trying to induce vomiting when he arrived at Baylor Medical Center, according to a television report.

Apparently no joke here.  This is a guy crying out for help.  I feel very badly for T.O. and Dallas Fans.  Best he leave the game and get his self together.

We saw this here in Philly near the end.  I hope his family and friends rally around him and that he gets well soon.  T.O. as a player we didn't like you here in Philly after all that happened but as a human being we hope you take care of yourself and hope God will heal you.  Surround yourself with God-loving people and advisors who have your family and your true well-being as their concern.

God this is an aweful shame.  The press and people ride this guy and it is time to leave him alone, myself included.

Sorry T.O.  Get better dude.

You Dallas fans are lucky to have T.O. and I hope you all or I mean (y'all in texas talk) have been showing him the love he deserves! Why is it that every good player that goes to Dallas has to develop some type of drug dependancy??? Is it that boring in TX that your players turn to drugs just to keep entertained. Well T.O. I think it's time to come back to the city, to the Bay Area we miss you over here and the 49ers or the Raiders could use you! I think it's time to switch teams again, you got a lot of love back here.  I wish you best wishes for your health, career and future.

Unbelievable, who would have figured this twist.  I was against the TO signing from the beginning but this is just surreal.  As I said, albeit, angrily when they signed him, he is truly sick.  He needs help and I hope he gets it.  Football seems trivial at the moment, but what this means to the Cowboys, who knows.  I think they need to move on from the whole TO situation but since he is uner contract I assume they are obligated to get him whatever mental help he needs...

It's amazing how ignorant some people can be.  Just because this man makes more money than most will ever see is no reason to ridicule him.  GROW UP!  He's still human.  He's a great player with a unique attitude.  Yes, he is sometimes cocky and arrogant.  But think about it, the more he displays this personality, the more people talk about him.  I'm sure he would thank you for that; popularity does have it's benefit$.  I hope he gets every penny they promised him.  I'm praying for him and I wish him the best!

It is always shocking to hear about someone trying to commit suicide, especially someone that is high profile.  But to me this is not really that surprising.  T.O. has obviously been crying out through his crazy antics and self-promotion.  If you look deeper than just the headlines you can see someone who is not happy with his life.  What T.O. needs to fulfill his life is not more money or press, he needs JESUS, and in a big way.  No one will ever truly find peace and joy until they come to the realization that they are a sinner and need the salvation only offered by Jesus Christ.  I hope there is someone close to T.O. who is sharing Christ with him.

I'm facinated. What I see in this blog is the Philly fans showing the compassion and the Cowboy fans indifferent to a man's life.  Imagine that - Philly fans and compassion in the same sentence. I have some new respect for them.  There must be something special about a man who can slight them the way T.O. did, and they still hold hope for him when that man is down.

I actually think this may remove him from football.  Perhaps the lime light and the pressure will not be what is prescibed for what will be a long and trying recovery.

I don't think this will distract the Cowboys beyond the Titans game, or at worse, the Philly game (that will be the only thing the media can see!)  I can see how this will make the entire team stronger.  The rest of the league's secondaries should not see this as a reprieve. In comes Sam Hurd!  Unporven for what will be only a very short time.

At this point it seems like everyone is assuming that the police report is correct. I think everyone should hold up on the judgement of TO. Until there is an official anouncement of some sort, everyone is just speculating.

It could be as simple as his hand was hurting and he took one to many pain pills. If so maybe he didn't know what he was saying when he went to the hospital.

Let's wait and see, but first and foremost let's all hope that TO the man is okay and gets whatever help he needs.

Oh My God, I do hope this is NOT T.O. getting attention.  This would be aweful for his team and fans everywhere would feel very deceived.  However another person posted that this could be runaway media.

I agree with others, we need to see what the Dallas Cowboys, the Agent and Terrell Owens himself has to say about this.

I just can not believe that ALL of the major news outlets would report "suicide" and go on the record they must have had someone who heard T.O. say that he tried to hurt himself.

I just can't imagine all of these news outlets reporting conjecture, someone had to substantiate the story somewhere.

The key will be IF they pumped out 33 pills out of his stomach or NOT.  Anyone who has worked in an E.R. knows that someone is supposed to count everything that comes up after induced vomiting.

We just need to wait and see.  It is a shame either way.

1. If it were a suicide attempt and I was trying to cover it up.....Deion Sanders would be the first person Jerry Jones and TO would call.  Go public and say that him an TO had a convesration and they were laughing about the media coverage. Make the allegations false by having some third party anaylst working for the nfl network dipsute them.

2.  If it wasn't a suicide attempt, why in the world did someone claim that TO told them he was trying to harm himself?  I guess it might of been miscommunication because of the drugs......possible.

3. Why does a guy who has millions and millions of dollars wrapped up into his health,  a guy who sleeps in some kind of hyper-chamber for strained hamstrings,  doesnt know what he is allergic too? And why,  after having a bad effect the first time he took them did he take 5 more?

theres alot of questions to be answered.....could it really be that he had a reaction to some pain killers to the degree that his stomach needed to be pumped and that the people who said that he said he was trying to harm himself were wrong,  and that the police mishandled the case and that the media just went over board with this story???

Just trying to be fair here, induced vomiting is NOT done in Drug Overdoses anymore.  ER personnel usually give activated charcol and there are blood tests given depending on the toxicity of what was ingested.  Him being released is basically procedure in states where suicide attempts are not against the law.  Once a patient is stable, they can walk right out of the hospital.

I think it is very telling that Deion Sanders asked the NFL Network comentator to "pray for this kid".

Perhaps the Dallas Cowboys are rallying around their player.  Certainly someone like this should be treated in private.

Mia -  I'm not the one who was claiming it was a suicide attempt.  The police report suggested that.  You can read at www.thesmokinggun.com.  What I'm suggesting is,  if it were an attempted suicide,  that they were going to do everything to try and cover that up. Like some else said,  this is a private matter. Im also questioning just what the hell is going on if it weren't  a suicide attempt??  A big mistake?  Well,   theres alot of people in this story making alot fo mistakes. Maybe it was just one big miscommunication and a series of mistakes.  okay........whatever. can we get back to football now? I actaully like TO. But he is going to go down as goof.  Its like Bill Clinton.  He couldve gone down in history as one of the greatest Presidents. Right up there with JFK, Lincoln, Washington.......But,  he decided to get a BlowJob.

you can back track all you want.  you are doing nothing but making assumptions that are based on nothing.

have you ever been "out of it"...either from medication,  drugs or just plain drink?  have you ever been around someone who was?  if so then you should know that people say stuff when they are not coherent...so just because he said "yes"  doesn't mean much of anything.

I'm thinking, T.O. ain't craaazy.  He was with a chick at the time right?  maybe he was trying the ole "i'm so depressed, I just took 30 pain pills...please stay with me" just to get a piece from the girl he was with.  Hey even football stars gotta make up some crap sometimes to get a little!!!!

I'd actually like him to say that in the press conference, it's like "hey guys, I wasn't tryin to kill myself...I was just tryin to some a**.   C'mon now, can ya feel me"  Hell, I might still want him on the team then!!

If it was that he just took too many pills "accidentally"....well then he's just a dumba**.   Which based on some of the stuff he's done/said before, could be the truth.  And I'm not sure I'd want him on the team.

And if the dude really has a problem....I definately don't want him on the team.  This thing could just be way too much hype and is overblown.....but still it's crap like this that starts screwing up the team in the locker room.....so he'd have to move on out!

C'mon Bill talk to tha boy.  Grab him by the ear, get him in the headlock, give him a noogie...hold him by his arms and let Roy williams give a horsecollar from 20 yards dead run!

can ya feel me!

Just my two cents:

This is the perfect situation where the media needs to stop sensationalizing the story and stick to the facts.  Unfortunately for us, that doesn't sell stories (or advertising space around the stories either).

If this was a suicide attempt (and I am not saying it is), then the priority should be the welfare of the individual involved.  If not, and was (as I believe it was) an adverse reaction to a drug, then the situation is between T.O. and doctors, with the need to prevent future occurrence.

I myself was put on medication a number of times that almost killed me.  I am allergic to some very common medications, including one of the most popular forms of antibiotic.  While on this medication, I was incoherent, dillusional, etc.  My wife and I thought it was the illness.  I was like this for nearly a week, because we didn't know any better.

I just heard the Cowboy's statement from their PR department.  I agree with their official position, that the priority is at this moment the health and well being of T.O.  Once that is decided, then they can focus on football.

For us as fans, let's just make sure that our prayers are for the person (regardless of he we feel about him). When the organization tells us when he is going to return to the field, then lets go back to hating or loving him as a football player.

and 1 last thing about ole T.O......just to coincide with my theory about taking the "extra" pills because of a chick.

The dude is 32, he ain't no freakin kid!! This dude is like 32.  He should know better, if he's tryin to say it's an accident.  That works for 20 year olds homie...nobody's buyin it.  I bet Bill is thinking the same thing...as he's calling around lookin for trades.

And as I was saying, if he really, truly does have a problem  (I don't think he does, if anything it's either the media or his own PR).  If it is, Sorry to hear....hope ya get better...hope rehab goes well...BUT we got some football to play...SEE YA.  and sorry we'll have to recoup 50% of that contract...it really wasn't guaranteed...didn't ya read the fine print!

If it happens to come out like that, I don't get the whole "I have a problem with painkillers" or "i wanted to kill myself" because HE IS 32 and has been in the football business for awhile.  He knows how it goes, this dude keeps his body in "perfect" shape...but he can't get his mind right.....I don't buy it.

So let all hope it was him just trying to get some tail from the chick....maybe at the press conference they'll all be joking..T.O'll be getting high-fives from Drew and Terry...saying "HAHA...that a good one...your craaazy boy...did it work?"  Then it's all good, he can suit up for PHilly!   If it's anything else...well sorrry see ya T.O. anyone want a trade??

After hearing the T.O. press conference and the statements from the publicist, and the interviews from the players.  Do you guys still feel like their is some kind of conspiracy?

I believe if he really and truley intended to kill himself, the organization would not put him on the playing field, the practice field, or the podeum.  I cannot see Jones disregarding the saftey of his three-year investment, and I cannot see Parcells allowing a real and known suicide case to distract the rest of the players.

I suspect the whole thing has been taken way out of context. My husband and I believe that Terrell Owens had a bad reaction to his new medication. We all know how "creative" the news media can be. They see Owens as an easy target. Lets stand behind our team and Owens is part of our team now.

Anyway good news on the homefront.   T.O. pullin our fingers again! dad..dadada   Of course, it'd still be funny for Roy to give a horsecollar in practice for the shananagins!

Well back to business, I expect him at practice manana.  I can just see the locker room now...many jokes from his teammates.  He comes in with his locker full of empty pill bottles.  Drew B. downin a bottle full of mints and falling over gaggin, spitting 'em out!  D. Ware coming in with a stomach pump.  Maybe even hiring one of those stripper nurses to come in.  Ahhhh....good times....those crazy cowboys!  Reminds me of north dallas forty...while drinkin ma forty!

Just saw a few players interviewed in the locker room and this is what matters - they ARE standing behind their teammate, which is great for me and should be for the rest of the fans too!

The players are thinking what I said earlier - it's just a media frenzy - them blowing everything way out of proportion before that get the WHOLE story, which I think is part of their ongoing hunt to try and make TO look bad.

In my opinion, it's not TO making the Cowboys look bad, it's the press and all their b.s.!
