Mick Shots - Dec. 3

StarCowboys owner Jerry Jones certainly has not given up on Terry Glenn returning this season, and even said he likely would hang onto his roster spot for the playoffs even if he didn’t play in a regular-season game. Remember, if the Cowboys earn that first-round bye, Glenn would have two more weeks to get ready for the first game. But interesting note here: Terrell Owens, Jason Witten and Patrick Crayton have combined for 27 touchdowns in 12 games. The trio last year combined for 18 in 16 games. Add in Glenn’s six, and that still only gets you to 24. Rather remarkable, no?

StarWord coming out of Washington State is that Cowboys receivers coach Ray Sherman’s name has come up in the papers as a potential candidate for the vacant head coaching job. Sherman, in his 20th year as an NFL assistant coach and 34th in coaching, has never has been a head coach and says he hasn’t been contacted or contacted anyone about the position.

StarYou guys always complain about not giving the offensive line enough love, so here is a hug from Jones, who said when asked about his front five: “That offensive line, I don’t know there is a part of this team I’m prouder of than the offensive line.” So there.

Mick,

You said that Glenn could probably be back by the lions game! What is the status on Glenn?

We don't need to hear about the Sherman news right now!

I am proud of the whole team!

Mick,

The reason why the trio has out performed the Quad Squad is because we're a more open offense this year. We don't run the ball as much. We've put the annointing oil on Romo and told him to make plays by giving our playmakers the ball. So, I don't believe your first paragraph is an apt comparison.

Mick, I'm takin' it your point is that Glenn may not really even be a factor as far as win/lose. I would have to agree with that as there are many factors involved with the success of the offense and Glenn simply would be icing on the cake.

While the presence or absence of some players affect the team's performance, none of what's transpired this season would've been possible without Tony Romo.

We are holding the roster spot for Glenn..........so it certainly would at least be nice to get him back in the mix and see what could happen. However, I also believe that there needs to be a good timing sync between the QB and receiver. This happens every year during the course of the season and practices. Thats my only worry about Glenn making a return and the timing being out of sync. Sure would be nice however to have him as a decoy to remove some pressure from Owens at times!! Go Boys............Lets eat some Lion!!!! Especially Kitna the Lion!!! :)

We might play Glenn for the last Redskins game.

Or let him rest, with the 1st-round bye we're almost certain to get, that would be 2 weeks of extra rest and practice, and Glenn would be ready for the divisional playoffs.

As long as he eases back into the game, I'm all for TG heading back in.  We don't need him pulling a Ricky Williams and making a one quarter comeback just to get hurt again.

I'm so proud of the whole team *sniff*  so proud.......to my home fans who can be at the games keep it loud and proud.  Hope to see you all in Glendale :)

The way our oline is playing, I think it would be very interesting to have Owens, Crayton, Witten and Glenn on the field at the same time. Four legitmate threats and the time to get them the ball.......priceless!

I hope he comes back soon.  If for no other reason than I have him on my fantasy team's bench.  He'd be a big upgrade at the 3rd WR spot for me.  :-)

He'd certainly give opposing defenses cause for worry if he is back completely healthy come playoff time.  It would be awesome to see TO, TG, JW and PC running all over the field.  With the way our Oline has been playing, Romo would be even more effective than he has been.

As much as I want Glenn back (damn, I ware the 83 jersey every time!) he isn't STRICTLY necesary right now. With T.O., Witten, Crayton, Hurd and now Austin into the equation, there's no need to hurry Glenn back.

but Glenn's speed give us a chance to get more for any type of play, screen pass, long pass, the running game, defenses can just ignore him if he is out there, Crayton has great hands, but he lacks that kind of speed.

farawayfan66, i agree with you. hurd really hasn't given us nothing as the 3rd receiver. if/when glenn return, the boys will use him as the 3rd receiver and put crayton in the slot where he is so good at sitting in zone coverages. it would be nice if glenn can return for the skins game so he can get some playing time under his belt prior to the playoff run.

i really like this kid austin. he has good speed. i know t.o. is a huge fan of hurd and works out with him but i really think austin needs to step into that 3rd receiver spot. do anyone have any negatives on austin and why he isn't playing more?

guys, sam hurd and austin will be the big supprise in the play offs they have a nack for getting open, if we face NW again we should play four wide out sets, with one or back (alternate mbiii and jj) use the backs as a drop off if the four outs are not open. score alot of points early, play d later.

You can't throw all of them a dozen throws a game. Hurd is doing all right. He is getting open and catching everything throw to him. (Have you guys seen the bear receivers?) I wonder about Austin because he was open but his attempt to make the catch either of those long passes was not there. You can have all the speed in the world but you got to catch the ball. (see hester in berars game.)

One thing is for sure is this.....Terry Glenn hasn't played a game this year......so, forget about terry Glenn....let him rehab....Glenn isn't the missing link here....you act as terry Glenn will be the link needed to take Dallas over the top??!! We are 11-1 right now....best in NFC and second to only 12-0 Patriots....we have TO-Crayton-Sam Hurd-Witten-Fasano-Tony Curtis and now Miles Austin who IMHO should be a starting receiver in many play sets the rest of the way. Sure Glenn is great, but let's not rush him back and sound like we desperately need him!! We are just fine and playing great....go Dallas!!!!!!

Cowboynm.....did you forget that Miles Austin drew 2 huge pass interference plays with his speed getting in fron of his corners??? Two huge penalties that contributed to Dallas victory over the Packers!

Terry Glenn should be a huge upgrade over Hurds or Austin.  When we play Green Bay again, Charles Woodson should be back for Packers, and our wide receivers will be less effective.  I do not have time to analyze other teams if they have enough secondary to shut down our wide receivers.  Certainly it will be nice to have Terry for the game against New England.

You can run a 3-wide offense with Jones and Witten in the game.  If the defense focuses on defending on the pass, then you can run Jones who is running effectively in the spread offense.  Hurd is not in the same class as Glenn, at least not yet.

We do not need Glenn against most teams.  But we might need him against the best teams in the playoff.  We got a break when Woodson was out of the game.  If Woodson was in the game, then Packers would put either Woodson or other corner back one-on-one on Crayton and that will basically shut down Crayton.  Then out a free safety and a corner back to constantly on Owens.  Packers are man-to-man defense.  In that case, Witten will be the major receiving weapon.

Before Owens had more than 100 yards receiving, no other wide receivers had more than 100 receiving yards against Green Bay.

If Dallas plays Green Bay again in Playoff, Woodson should be back.    If we do not get Glenn back, our passing attack will not be as effective as last week.

We have been waiting for TG all year, put him on IR, and get these young guys some reps!  He is not going to come backk this year.  Let him go get the necessary surgery for his knee and hope to get him back next season.  I love TG but, enough is enough.

GO POKES!!

If/when we do get Glenn back, we need to use him in these ways:

1) As the 3rd WR. Crayton has played well and you don't want to disrupt the starting offense that has played so well all year.

2) In obvious passing downs......2nd and long....3rd and long, etc.

3) For flea-flickers.  I don't know if thi play is in Jason Garrett's playbook but I remember several times when we've scored TD's by handing the ball to Julius who would them throw the ball back to the QB who would then hit a streaking Glenn for a TD.  Just a thought.
