Last night was beyond painful. Can't protect the ball. Can't block. Once again our secondary was exposed. And if that's not bad enough, the refs even got involved (i.e. Roy Williams). I was glad to see Romo though. It was painful last year watching Bledsoe time and again through behind receivers. This drove me almost as batty as his sacks. I hope we stick with Romo for the simple fact that we know what we have in Bledsoe. It's time to find out what Romo is all about. If he isn't the answer, then we know that going in to next years draft. It still amazes me though that twice (Philly and Giants) we have shot ourselves repeatedly in the foot during a game and STILL have had a fighting chance late into the forth. Oh, I almost forgot. Our punt returns and kickoff returns last night.....ugh!
Good post, though I think that calling the offensive line "suspect" is being a bit kind. My six-year-old son knows who Michael Strahan is-- how on earth does he run right at Bledsoe untouched on the Cowboys' first drive? If it gives us anything for comparison purposes, when has Greg Ellis ever recorded a sack where he went untouched-- in the past eight years? I read today that Lavar Arrington timed the snap count when he sacked Bledsoe for a safety-- but it certainly didn't look like he was hiding the fact that he was blitzing, and yet the entire right side of the line opened up an eight-foot hole through which Arrington could run. Mark Schlereth finally said something with which I agree: "the Dallas Cowboys don't understand protection, they don't understand who's hot, they don't understand who to pick up..." (clip is here: http://www.knowyourdallascowboys.com/?p=371). Anyway, not arguing with your post at all, but the play of the line last night was beyond excuse, especially in the first quarter.
Man the defense needs to step up like now, no matter how great our offense can play our defense if forcing us to play catch up. I like the Romo move, I didnt like the timing, going forward I would like to see Romo on out, hopefully with a full week of knowing you're the starting QB hopefully the mistakes can lessen. You cant stay with Bledsoe he is making bad decisions for being a vet, even when he has the time, might as well groom Romo who can at least avoid a sack.
Plenty of Blame... Sure, you could look at it that way. However, I dont. Here is where the blame lies. Last year, when The Dallas cowboys were trying 2 mk the playoffs. Even though there was no way on GODs green earth we would hv. Parcells should hv played Romo then 2 get in N2 a groove. ( He DIDnt ) 2 weeks ago when The Dallas Cowboys were going N2 their bye week, and Rome had 2 FULL weeks 2 get used 2 the starting job, BledSLOW started. Parcells should hv started Romo then. Get used 2, in his head he will start against a Houston Texans team, who most weeks cant stop 33 good Dallas Cowboys fans from putting up solid #s. ( That's Offence, Defence, and Special Teams ) Why did BledSLOW start. Parcells wanted Drew 2 get some Confidence back. ( WHO CARES ) You hv seen on a # of times where the same thing has happend. That does NOTHING 4 the in coming ( never played ) backup. Well it does do something, it takes away any good feeling of NOW I GET 2 PLAY. Romo should really send Bill an FTD ROSE Buuuukay. BLAME, YES IT'S ALL BILLs. and Remember HBTCB stands 4 How Bout Them Cow Boys
"I thought after the last few weeks, and the way we rushed the passer, they would've protected a little bit more than they did in the first half. I'm glad they didn't," said Strahan - Says it all.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing about the returns; but I still have high hopes for this team. Im thinking playoffs defintly. The giants arent going to make it. They still have a horrid schedule and have to many injuries and Ego's on that team.
Defense is forcing offense to play catch up shanehockey8? From what I saw the defense did everything they could to keep the team in it. You can only expect so much from the defense. Especially when they are on the field so long. The offense needs to step it up and turn those turnovers into points. This turning the ball over in the redzone is whats keeping this team in catch up mode.
Ksun did you not see the first Giant drive, granted turning the ball over never helps but this defense underachieves. Tiki ran all over us, didnt get to Manning, didnt stop the run. You dont stop the run, probably gonna lose. Point is both QB's are questionable in regards to talent, we need the D to make some plays and keep us in the game
There is not a QB in the league that could have won the way the line blocked. I think we could have won the game if they would have kept Bledsoe in the game. They new that they needed to improve the offensive line last year. They should have spent the money that they wasted on TO on an OFFENSIVE LINE….. Cowboy Fan for 40+ years…
Agree on the line, not so sure TO is making the impact we thought he would. I personally thought the Keyshawn, TG duo was sufficient last season. TO dropped a big pass yesterday, at a crucial time.
The defense played poor at best. T.O. droped a crucial 4th down pass. Drew Bledsoe threw a game changing interception before the half. As bill said "Reciple for disaster" This team needs to pick it up and pick it up FAST! If they dont, then were looking at a serious eruption very, very soon.
Good Rant though deagleton, you nailed it on the head with everything. I even agree with you about my favorite reciever TO. I am starting to wonder how great he really is too. My main concern is the coaching staff. I wont even go there on this blog though. I honestly felt kinda sorry for Parcells after watching the post-game...I really thought he was going to burst into tears. Not because they lost, but because he knows the game has passed him by. Parcells finally admitting he was outcoached is a sure sign of that.
I think someone needs to get fired after last night's disaster. How about starting with the line coaches. Both offense and defense. It is so apparent the offensive line has no clue who they should be blocking. They always double team a defender when someone else gets a free run at our QB. The defensive line is no better. It seems our secondary makes most of the tackles. I'm extremely embarrased today. Not because we lost but because we continually field a team that is not at all competetive. Additionally, it doesn't seem to bother Jerry Jones or Bill Parcells enough to take action.
Yup, there is plenty of blame to spread around. The secondary is over rated except for Glenn. The winning starts on offense line and they're no where playing at a professinal level. How can we pass if the O line doesn't protect the QB, how can we run if the O line doesn't block, that's where it starts. D line is okay but the secondary is weak. I believe Defense is what win games but they just didn't play up to their professional level. Don't blame Bledsoe or Romo. As far as Parcells, he did his job..the team is just not doing their job..simple as that.
It was just a bad performance all-around last night, from offense to defense to special teams. -Our O-line couldnt block on run or pass. -Our skill players couldn't make plays on offense. -Our front 7 got handled in the running game and the passing game. -When we did get some pressure.. just a little pressure on the QB our DB's couldn't cover their receivers. -Our punter didn't punt as well as we're accustomed to. -Our return game was awful.. just awful. -Usually to win a game you must win 2/3's of the ball game.. we went 0 for 3. -I live in CT and now have to listen to these Giant fans talk about how great their team is.
TO is doing exactly what he was paid to do. He'd getting ink and bringing fans to the game. That's why they didn't spend money on the O line. The O line dosen't get Jerry's remade mug in the paper, TO does. cmsix
And no shane I didnt see the first drive. But I will take your word for it. Thing is though man, for the offense to turn the ball over 4 times(2 being in the redzone) and the Giants only won by 14. And 7 of those 14 points came from that last INT in the redzone. Ehhh its not even worth arguing over. Cowboys stunk it up bad...whatelse can we say. A loss is a loss no matter who we blame.
Defensive blame goes as follows: The safteys first. I already want Keith Davis back in there. Roy Williams is even MORE exposed with FSU garbage Watkins with him. The corners are actually a strength, all 3 of them. The D-Line WILL get pressure enough. THE BIGGEST DEFENSIVE BLAME? Mike Zimmer. Yes. He even admitted himself before last season began that the 3-4 in totally new to him. Since 2003's outstanding 4-3, we've been on a steady decline. Offensive Blame: O-Line duh. Get Al Johnson back in to shotgun snap to Romo because Gurode is apparently foreign to this concept. Some snaps had Romo pausing and then jumping forward a little to get the snap. Play around with inserting Fabini. Cant hurt at this point. T.O. He needs to learn to catch the ball more frequently. But then again, if he's consistently good for dropping a pass or two a game, he has no room to spend time bytchin other people out. There you have it folks, comments?
number11 said: eagles cant survive without mcnabb and westbrook with the history they have they both wont stay healthy all year and last night in front of a monday night viewing the tuna benched the only hope dallas had for a guy that stunk up the field pretty bad the g-men just got the nfc east handed to them.but after next week he'll look ok againt a couple of sub-par teams but it wasnt what you all thought it was going to be and by what you all saw last night he will never be alla tom brady what you want, tuna saying drew made a mistake threw to the wrong side of the field not as ugly as throwing a screen pass 2 feet to the g-men romo after this year will be a forever back-up. and i hope drew tells the franchise to stick it so we can watch the boys flounder (like a tuna out of water)over a bad knee jerk reaction, 3 sacks of drews totally uncovered, romo 2 sack because he is so mobile 3 int's because he so acurate and is so good at live game reaction by the way half-time game managable at 7-12 what was the result of the hero off the bench i have never seen a guy that has done so much in his career be so disrespected in all of football.
and did anybody notice romo's super scrambling feet i think they looked more like scared happy feet, after he gets a real smack layed on him he will never be the same
I've had to take my lumps all day living in the heart of Giant Country. If Bledsoe was not going to be the quarterback this year, then why didn't we go out and make an effort to get Drew Brees. Who the hell is Tony Romo... it's a Rib joint.
I think that the offensive line needs to be our number one priority this offseason. Seriously, is there ANYBODY currently on that line that strikes fear into the hearts of defensive linemen? We just got outmuscled on the line of scrimmage, both sides. Everytime the ball snapped, all I would see was blue jerseys surging forward and white jerseys falling back. Thats not what we are supposed to see. How are we going to fix that?
We didn't get Drew Brees because.... #1. Brees isn't one of Bills old players, so he doesn't qualify for the Dallas Retirement Home for old Parcells Old Players. #2. It wouldn't really solve our problem, but just be another patch job. This team needs to develop it's own quarterback.
Hey number11, with a user name like that, all validatiy you have is thrown out the door when it comes to bashing Romo. I would almost assume you just are Bledsoe logging on here talking smack, but your grammer is just way too bad. Try periods (.) and commas (,) next time, guy.
I'm throwing in the towel. Last night just confirmed all our fears about our team and exposed them to the world. Since the O and D line problems have been covered above, I want to know when we are going to fix the following issue: Opposing QB throws up a 50 yard bomb to his wide receiver who is covered by one or both of our safties, the result? Touchdown. Watkins needs to be replaced. Period. And I hate to say it, because I really like the guy, but I think Roy Williams needs to be moved to linebacker. He is getting burned by the passing game repeatedly. And how about our special teams? They're "special" all right, and not in the good way. When is SOMEONE going to make a play? Anyone? The only bright spot is McBriar, even though he had an off night. I'm really beginning to buy into the speculation that our problems stem from the coaching staff. Look at what Sean Payton and his crew are doing with the Saints. Are you telling me they have more talent than the Cowboys? No way. So I'm in the "glass is half empty" camp. We will not win the division, we'll be lucky to get a wild card, but I'm not counting on that either. I'm thinking we go 8-8 and come in third in our division. Damnit.
The way we are playing now with this much inconsistency by looking at our schedule we're looking at 8-8 at seasons end and 3-4 after the Carolina game. Now I think we have the talent to win the division but we're facing an uphill battle and we've been saying that all off-season up until now. Potential just means you haven't done anything yet and thats where Dallas stands now. I do like Romo back in the pocket more than Bledsoe though. If our defense can play well Romo can manage games for us and make plays when we need it.
Banshee, when Parcells sent Romo out there it was pretty much an admission that this is now a rebuilding year. I wish he would have admitted that to himself earlier so Romo could have already been out there getting experience, and they could have been using all this time building gameplans around HIM. As it stands, look at this year as that necessary first step of Bill FINALLY admitting that we had a problem and Bledsoe wasn't the answer. Accepting that first hard bit of reality and acting on it is the first sign of hope for the future of this team. It's not a guarantee... hope never is....but now we can at least analyze the trials and tribulations of our qb with an eye towards what kind of player he will be in the future, as opposed to simply despairing of each screwup as another symptom of an aging qb going downhill. We weren't going to the Super Bowl anyways, so now with Romo in there these games (even the losses) actually mean a little more.
Well that just about sucked now didn't it!!!! But rejoice, "Cowboys Fans" (most of you but not all). Tony Romo is here to save you!!!! Last week I made the statement "the alure of the back is the unknown", well now we know.
"Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it" Throw away Emmit and give us troy (Hambrick that is). Julius Jones should be benched for Marion Barber. Troy (Aikman) needs to go now. Not too long ago everyone needed to be replaced. Half of you (just last week) that the Boyz should have gotten that a=other guy instead of Ware. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU. News Flash THE COWBOYS HAVE NEVER GONE UNDEFEATED. It's not too late to salvage the season. Teams have been known to put on spectacular win streaks. Now to loast night's game: The biggest play (against the defense) was caused by the official. Drew made a horrible decision but to that point he was 7/12, 111, 1 int. Not perfect but we trailed 5 points at the half. Terrell Owens catching is suspect. It's almost like he's playing with pins/screws in his hand or something. Like maybe it hurts his hand everytime the ball hits his hand. He should get over it. COWBOY UP.
What got the momentum going for the Giants was their 12th man on the damn field. I don't generally say anything about the ref's buy my god!! Can't blame Roy when the ref basically blew up the coverage, he was their to give Watkins help and the ref was in the way. They are not supposed to be running in the line of the damn play!!! Then that forward pass crap. My god that was an obvious fumble the ball was out way before the arm was moving foward. That is 9 points by the 12th man for the Giants!!! Because that call allowed the to get to a point to put the ball on the one and setup the safety. Ok...enough ranting about the refs. The line sux and must be fixed. I don't know what can be done though. I am just heartbroken here, cannot believe this game, I looked foward to seeing that breakout game and for the O to be so horrible...argh! I won't even get into the QB switch right now. Just to down...*sigh*
floridagators if all you got is grammer save it.since the beginning of the year everyone in here crying put romo in bledslow bla bla bla now you got what you want dont start crying the line stinks now keep your golden rib boy
I have but one thing to ask of all of you, maybe I'm wrong here. Isn't holding still illegal in the NFL? Siting at home in my chair I swore I consistanly saw Giants Offensive Linemen with a fist full of Jersey or do I need to get my eyes checked....
Are you F'n kidding me. I am disgusted about the treatment of Drew Bledsoe last night. Why not let him play the game and see if he can't keep us in it and then tuesday IF we still stunk it up then announce that there will be a change at the QB position. That was a crucial home game and you put in Tony Romo and it took him nearly 10 seconds to due nothing more than Drew was doin. In fact I'm all for the Bledsoe benching but not the way it was done. I mean Damn Bill you knew what you were getting when you brought him here. Treat the guy with a little respect. Ps.. a thought.... we need to go back to unselfish playin and not try to get the ball into are diva's hand on every single play. I mean look at preseason we could move the ball pretty good against teams first teammers and that's all without "i'm wide open on a much needed 4th and one with noone within 6,7 yrds of me and I still can't catch the damn ball."
Captain...Well said. I think benching Bledsoe down by 5 was disprespectful as hell. He should have gotten the chance to finish and bring us back.
The way it whent down, if I were Drew I would just walk away at this point. And nobody could blame him.
sorry can't spell today
I was on Bledsoe's BW this season until last night, the D comes up big and strips Tiki and he throws a pick, no way a 12 yr vet should make that throw, Romo deserved to start after that regardless of the score. You could feel the offense come alive when he's in the game, 1st play, terrible decision, but after that he moved the ball. The screen was also a terrible decision, but I believe those are things that can be worked out with practice against 1st team D. I'm going to the carolina game, hopefully Romo is playing, because I believe he can lead us to victory. Give the guy a chance, how many players come off the bench a lead a team to victory, not many.
Hey number11, I believe we will keep that golden boy as you call him. You are no judge of players if you think Bledsoe is a better QB at this stage of his career than Romo. Everyone is going to be happy next week. The entire team was so embarrassed by last nights game, they'll all come out and play a super game. I look for them to trash the Panthers and the sideline will be full of smiles, except for Drew Bledsoe. The problem is, none of the problems will have been fixed. They'll go out the following week and stink up the joint again. We need at least one strong leader on this team. Is anybody going to step up?
Aye, Captain. I've been reading Cowboys blogs for about a month now. It has been astonishingly amazing at how disrespectful the fans are to anyone who is not performing up to their expectations. Drew was railroaded last night. It's a shame. He made a bonehead play. But with a team down by only 5 why throw in the towel 6 games in. We expect perfection in everyone but ourselves.
And another thing, Romo gives us a better chance to win now, because with Bledsoe, good teams know all you have to do is shut down the run on 1st and 2nd and pin your ears back and get to bledsoe and he'll make mistakes, All 3 losses were the same, thier D dominating, shutting down our run and they forced Bledsoe to beat them and that's when he makes mistakes. Teams can't plan the same against Romo, they have to respect the passing game more and hope he makes bad decisions, that will open the run, he also opened up Witten immediately, Witten hasn't done *** all season, because he's too busy trying to block. I believe Bledsoe needs Payton calling plays for him, without Payton, Bledsoe and the cowboys are doomed on offense. Last night was proof.
I felt sorry for Bledsoe, mainly because he must have known his career just ended along with any hope of ever reaching that Super Bowl again. But thats the nature of the game, and he knew coming into the game that he was skating on thin ice. In the end it was up to him. It was just too soon after the Philly interception in the red zone for him to do it again. He had to know that.
Bill may just be giving Drew a wake-up call, kick in the butt to show him he cannot improvise. Maybe he goes back to Bledsoe and he(Bledsoe) plays better. Who knows. Just a thought.
I wonder if practice isn't confusing the o-line and our front 7 on D? In practice our o-line goes up against our 34 D at least part of the time so the D can practice. The same thing happens the other way around. When the O needs work against the 43 D, our 34 guys have to play that way. It's a little awkward for the D so the O is able to block them and they feel real good about what their doing. Problem is when they face the real 43 D's that stunt and blitz out of that scheme every week, they look like crap.
lasarian You can't jerk the rug out from under your "future" QB as you suggest. Barring injury, or a complete collapse in Romo, Drew Bledsoe is finished as a Cowboy.
I'm just thinking outside the box here, but why not play BOTH Bledsoe and Romo? Just like teams switch off running backs, why not switch off the QB? Has it ever been done? Bledsoe could run the series where we start off with decent field position and then put Romo in if we're backed up or have a third and long. Crazy?
Okay guys...I've read all the post. Even made one myself. So how do we fix it? Where do we need the MOST help at. O Line? Secondary? QB? I'm beginning to wonder about the line coaches as well. Can someone tell me how, year after year, Denver's O line opens gaping holes in opponets (good and bad); holes big enough so that they can consistantly draft 6th round running backs and make them look like gods and Dallas consistenly allows the QB to watch the game from his back? I don't know the history of our O line coache(s) but I'm going to do some research. Anyone have some solid info on this?
Banshee, I understand your point. BUT...then you are talking about splitting practice time with the starters. I think we would both agree that either one of the QB's needs 100% practice time with the starting unit. Of course, the idea of having them both on the field....maybe at the same time....Hmmm...double shotgun set? :-)
OK that last comment was just plain stupid
Yes, Banshee. Crazy. Let's pick our poison and live with it or die by it. All on one accord?
Holy Cow! A 2 QB set, or splitting time between 2 QB's? Wow, you guys need to study a bit more about football before you pst to these blogs. Pleaseeeeeeee.
bigDcapitalT that was golden rib boy
BigD...I was obviously joking about a double QB set. I mean, how in the world could they decide sack counts? :-)
POP POP POP (bursting bubbles) For all of you who think you are the best coaches that the world doesn't know --- sit down and game plan (offense or defense) what you would do to either keep Carolina Defense at bay, or keep their offense off track. Post it on a blog (brief synopsis, but more than double smith and stack the line of scrimmage). From all the comments I've read about coaching it must be really really simple. If you can't do it, show some respect. Everyone can point out a problem, but "HOW DO WE FIX IT?" David-Howard Speak it
I still go back to my original idea if you leave this line alone you have to make Pat McQuistan a tight end and Al Johnson the full back. Maybe that would stop a few sacks :) hahaha
Last week I posted that everyone that wanted to see Romo play should buy his jersey. I did. I wonder if we could see the sales stats for jerseys last week. Then we would know if this was Jerry's or Bill's decision to start Romo. Either way I think it was the right one :)
My post was meant to ask what do the fans think the ONE area on the team needs to be addressed first. That's all. No one on this board is attempting to coach. I hope not anyway. I was only attempting to get some insight from the other members here.
Maybe making McQuistan the blocking fullback will let us punch a few runs up the gut.
Like everyone else I am sickened by the game last night. I was kinda shocked that parcells made the call to bring romo in before giving bledsoe one more shot with us getting the ball back starting the second half. But honestly...I think we all know what to expect with bledsoe. INT's in the red zone and sacks. I think we cant do any worse with romo stepping in...At least there is a chance he could be an upgrade despite his inexperience.Just look at how the offense seemed to be a little more energized when he came in.Romo just needs to learn to throw the ball away when the play is toast and avoid trying to force things(ex:the failed screen pass int) Bledsoe is at the twilight in his career and he is not gonna get any better. In fact his arm and decision making looks noticeably worse than last season. Especially with how horrible our O-line is playing...Bledsoe would be a sitting duck all season and we miss the playoffs anyway.Don't get me wrong I am not a bledsoe hater as I have defended him since last year....and really our problems run alot deeper than just our QB situation...if our D doesnt step up a little more and avoid these huge plays we have been giving up and our O-line continues to allow pressure and fail to provide openings for our running game.....we may not even be .500 as sad as that sounds....We beat a few pathetic teams (Hou,Was and Ten) and have to prove we can beat a team over .500...So far all we have shown is that we can't beat good teams...just teams even worse off than us. Hopefully this is a huge wake up call to everyone on the team and we turn things around...Carolina is beatable and there is no reason why we shouldnt at least win 2 out of the next 3 on the road if we truly are a playoff team..This remains to be seen....Go Cowboys
Good post. I wasn't a Bledsoe basher either. It did bother me to watch him consistenly pass behind open receivers. They made him look REALLY good sometimes. Still, Parcells even stated last year that there are things he consistently works on him with....dumping the ball and getting rid of the ball quickly. He's a fourteen year veteran. He has shown that there are just certain things he will not or cannot do. Bledsoe has stated that he knows he holds the ball too long. So...Romo is in. The O line needs to get together or it won't matter.
I don't know guys, that game last night really sapped my spirit. Before the season started, I had us winning the division and possibly having home field during the playoffs. The Jacksonville game was troublesome, but I truly believe Bledsoe was hurt, (although he should have taken himself out of the game.) Then the loss to the Eagles. That game was frustrating. We showed flashes of brilliance, but then would turn around and give up a huge play or turn the ball over. But last night's game...I couldn't sleep afterwards. I was up all night trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with our team. After thinking about it all day and reading the stories and blogs, I've come to the conclusion that we just aren't very good. And I don't see how we can BECOME good unless we make SERVERE changes. But, we will have the same coaches and players for the rest of the year. What is going to change? Our safties are still going to get burned on the long bomb, Our D-line won't get any pressure and even when we blitz we won't get to the QB before he gets the ball away, The O-line will continue to let our QB get pounded and they won't open up any running lanes for JJ, Our special teams will continue to give us the ball on the 30 and not force any fumbles when we kick off to the opposing team, And our QB will continue to throw interceptions and get sacked. How is any of this going to change when we have the same personnel? Something is seriously wrong and it runs DEEP. I'm sorry to sound so negative, but I take football very seriously and it's been so long since our last Superbowl. That's why I'm throwing out stuff like splitting time between the QB's because I'm desperate for SOMETHING to change.
I read alot of great stuff, most of it BANG-ON, but Bledsoe deserved better last night. Review: The JAC pass rush was fierce, but offensive play calling took the foot off the gas after the big lead in the 1st... Lack of killer instinct! It took till the 3rd quarter vs. PHL to finally adjust against their pass rush up the middle. By that point, we were playing catch up. Last night, for the most part the Giants created pressure with 5 guys, mainly 4, and we never did get a handle on that all game. O-Line is horrible T.O. is good, but when you want the ball 90% of pass plays, we lose out on the big play threats that Terry Glenn and Witten provide. Defense plays an old-school 3-4 scheme, but we lack a serious pass rusher, and run stopper in the middle. Roy Williams - teams are realzing that he's tough vs. the run, but HOLY SMOKES he can't handle pass protection. Anybody see that shoulder head shake from Shockey on Roy for his touchdown. Roy looked frozen, and bitten!! Parcells may need to extend his contract if he wants another super bowl, because the boys need rebuilding. A QB for the future. An O-Line that is nasty and likes to run block A run stopper in the middle Safety concerns in both positions???
I feel you...Watching bledsoe became almost painfull. You would watch him hang in the game somehow to only watch him break your heart when the game was on the line.I really take it to heart when we get beat...It has been rough year in and year out....and I truly thought this year would be different. I still have hope that things can turn around but if this road trip goes south then it sure doesnt look good coming home to INDY and TB..then playing N.O ,ATL,PHI....oh wait...at least we play DET last...but at this point I wonder if we can beat them...These next three games will show alot about this team...I figured looking at the schedule early on that we probably would split with PHI and NY...I also kinda figured we would lose 5 or 6 games...so all is not lost YET..But if Parcells has any coaching left in him now is the time to motivate that D and O line...we need them more than anything..We could have tom brady and still lose if everything else doesnt come together. This is one of the toughest sports out there because it is a TEAM sport..If you are missing one piece of your "team"...you will not succeed no matter what one single player does...
Understand all that you wrote. I agree. We are in serious trouble this year. By this stage in the game (Even WITHOUT a QB change) teams have identified who they are. The Boys are in trouble. They are in trouble because we have issues all over the field. Tell me....prior to last night how many times did anyone use in a sentence the words "Giants" and "Great" when it comes to special teams and stopping punt/kickoff returns? I know I didn't. Last night....we were horrible on the returns. I look for Dallas to have a good game against Carolina. I think Bill will fire them up. Call it an adrenaline game. And I say this not knowing who the QB will be. Still...the issues remain.
You can point the finger at a lot of things, but really it boils down to only one: Bill Parcells. He is the man. He is the man responsible for this mess. The Cowboys were exposed last night as a bad team. Can't block, can't run, can't catch, can't make good judgements. The blame is totally on the Coach. He is way past his prime and needs to move on.
Banshee Look, let's not throw out the baby with the bath water. It really doesn't require major wholesale player changes. We do have talented players. Now we start a new era with Romo at QB, and who knows, that era may only last a week or two, or possibly many years, only time will tell. The problem I'm having difficulty understanding is simply our coaching period. Either the team isn't being coached properly, or the coach isn't motivating the players properly. I know a lot of guys will say, oh these are pro players earning millions, they shouldn't need to be motivated, but they really do need to have someone helping to get them jacked up. I haven't seen a game this year where the Cowboys came out and just started slugging the other team in the mouth. Not a game where it looked like they had the other team on the ropes and wishing they weren't on the field with the Cowboys.
Well Well....,six games into the season and we're 3-3,that blows!!.What a horrible & painful game we played lastnight.Do this guys actually practice and get ready for a big game???? How many mistakes did we make lastnight 15,20,25?. Int's,sacks, incomplete passes, kick return, safety, should I continue... WHO TO BLAME?? I Believe the person's to blame are the coaches, yes all the coaches aren't getting their job done(Defensive, Offensive,& special teams).Do they not learn from their mistakes from previous games i.e Philly, Jacksonville?. This team needs to get it together NOW,players and coaches!.I think we should stick with Romo,But he needs to Practice, practice, practise and then practise some more. The worst play was when giants had the ball on the goal line and went for it on 4th and 2,and scored a touchdown. That was Pathetic!.
I know before last night I thought it would be a close game...I sure didn't think that the giants were that much better. They have a great D-line...Which they better have cause their secondary is weak..or I thought it was until last night...But their numbers dont lie either...3-0 in division games. Thats what it takes to win a division. Now thats not to say they will sweep division games..or even continue winning..their schedule is pretty tough too. Maybe our D is over-rated at this point. I had confidence we could stop tiki. We only gave up an average of 67 yds rushing up till that point..but then look at what we faced...fred taylor, betts(no portis),dayne, lendale white...the only decent back being westbrook...I could swear we have a pretty good group of LB's.. I thought our DB's were pretty good too..which they arent bad..Maybe its time to try out marcus coleman next to roy williams...help him cover..that and get some pressure on the qb next weekend..that would help...we will score...how can we not with TO,glenn,witten,JJ...We have weapons...but playing from behind is tough...I will be bold and show some positives in this post...I truly think we beat carolina next week...Our D steps up against a mediocre delhomme...shuts down their weak run game...our offense gets to stick to the gameplan and run successfully and marcus coleman helps out roy to keep Steve Smith from slaughtering us...Hows that for positive...watkins needs more work..he has talent but he gets abused
Along with the coaching comments you know what hit me between the eyes? BigDCaptialT's post. We haven't punched anyone in the mouth. He's right in that this team has no swagger. I was too focused on coaches, etc. I wonder why we don't have a swagger?
I couldn't sleep either but there is something someone didn't mention yet. On the safety did anyone notice what JJ was doing in the backfield? He was watching Drew get sacked that's what he was doind. JJ's blocking is horrid and was identified in blogs last week and if you watch that play it just looked like he gave up on trying to block for Drew. A lot of people wrote poorly of Drew when he didn't chase the player on an INT he threw against the Eagles but no one has mentioned the poor blocking of JJ in the backfield. Parcells said in his post game press conference that they new who was supposed to block the blitzer on that play and did you notice that after that play JJ got very little playing time. It wasn't all that he wasn't getting any yards, I think Parcells was sending him a message too. I wanted to see Romo and hope he can improve if named the starter for next week. Bledsoe had all of the time he needed to complete the play in the red zone but locked in on TG and threw a terrible pass. That play was not the fault of bad blocking, he had time. One of his sacks he patted the ball four times and then finally had to pull it down and take the sack. Get rid of the ball, throw it away, hell spike it to end the play but don't take the sack when you have that much time. Hey Bledsoe, I mean number11, golden rib boy can still learn this game and improve but Drew makes the same mistakes week after week against opponents this team needs to beat. I thought benching the QB at halftime was a bad move for two reasons. One it alienates Bledsoe from the rest of the offense because they did respond to Romo. Secound, you put Romo in against a defense that was already making big plays and hungry for more. Romo should have started against Houston so he could have gotten one game under his belt before facing a good D like NY showed last night. One last thought. I defended Bledsoe's character last week but am disappointed in the way he acted on the sidelines. Hopefully he was just pissed for getting benched and will act differently next week but he needs to take a look at Warner in Arizona and help and support his young QB and not be a prima donna like Farve is in GB. Bledsoe can help Romo learn and improve. Above all, we are all fans who want this team to win so blog on and let the pain out.
bigDcapitalT: I hear you. I know we have some great players, that's what makes this whole thing so frustrating. I think I'm also officially convinced that it's a coaching problem. Whether that means the assistant coaches or Parcells himself, whatever they're doing isn't working. I bring up Sean Payton and the Saints again. I believe that, overall we have the more talented players. But look at what the coaches are doing with the players they have. Whatever the coaches are doing...it needs to change. Because what they're doing now obviously isn't working.
After six games, this team is still not prepared to play. Either the players are not good enough, or the coaching is bad. I heard on the radio that the Giants knew the Cowboys' protection packages and did stunts and twists to attack the areas they knew were weak. It seems too many teams know how to attack the Cowboys on both sides of the ball, yet we still do not find and expose weaknesses of our opponents. We get killed on blitzes yet hardly ever succeed on our blitzes. THE gameplans on both sides of the ball are lousy.
I was hoping that Parcells would retire, before Sean Peyton got another coaching job. I always wanted him for our head coach. He can gameplan with the best of them. Look at the job our former linebackers coach is doing as the defensive coordinator of the Saints.
I thought I was the only one....I keep hearing how the cowboys have such good personel on defense and yet even if they blitz 8 men..all seem to get blocked...I see other teams time the blitz perfectly, whereas the cowboys run up to the line and then stop and then drop off then the ball is snapped....I haven't been a fan of the defensive coordinator for a long time....Can we bring back Charles Haley(as a player)? I seem to remember him always being around the quaterback. The O-line seems to stink as well..I'm no expert but how about keeping people in to block..I personally like when they keep people in the back field to block
BigDCapitalT and D-H I agree with you on the swagger part but would like to throw in there that the coaches are the reason the team does not have the swagger. Watch Peyton in NO, Gruden in Tampa, Cowher in Pittsburg, their teams show what their head coach is like. These coaches move along the sidelines, hug their players on great plays, get in the faces of players who screw up. They light a fire on the team and the players react. Their antics on the sidelines also fires the crowd up which in turn add to that extra man mentality. Numerous problems were exposed last night and I still think good points were made last week and here that adjusting to the opposing defense has been very slow this year. Someone wanted to know about the coaches. Well two on offense are Parcells men who coached for him before so they know what kind of plays he likes. One was an offensive coach for the Texans and we all know what kind of powerhouse that team has been in past years. One was an offensive coach for the Jags and look how much it hurt them on offense to lose him to our team. I don't profess to be a coach but when the flee flicker works on our team but the Cowboys can't pull it off on other teams there is something wrong. I am waiting for the press conference telling us what Bill has on his mind. I think some reality set in during this game.
As far as the offensive line. Why on earth would you release the strongest man in the NFL in the off season and expect a terrific line. Everyone knows the game is won in the trenches. If we still had Larry Allen that would create a good push up front on the left side. Creating a tandem like Jones and hutchinson for the Seahawks in 2005. Another stupid mistake was signing Marco Rivera who has been terrible since he's been here. Jones should've traded for a starting quality linemen before deadline or at least swap out Flozell Adams. Move Gurode to right guard and put Johnson in at Center. Put Fabini at Flozells Spot. Then will see what happens. I think if we actually stuck with the running game. Passed on long 3rd down situations instead of do draws. Then will be in a better situation than 3-3. I think Tony Romo would've done much better if he had started the game. His first interception was a defender in his face. I think he passed for more yards in 1 half than Bledsoe has did in any game this season.
Well we kept Vanderjaht and he can't kick past the 10 yard line. We have yet to keep anyone behind the 30 since he took over kick off's. How many game winning feild goals has he made? When did he keep us in a game. What a bust that was.
yeap the O line did a very bad job blocking , Bledsoe once again trew a bad int , the D gave up some big plays (specially on 3rd down ) , couldn t get the running game going , BUT WHAT ABOUT THE OFFENSIVE PLAY CALLS ???? MAN , just like in the early 90s this teams has TOO MANY WEAPONS , but they are just not using those weapons , use the Witten in the middle more , go deep to Gleen and TO more , they say the TUNA is one of the best coaches in NFL history , i honestly think you put JIMMY JOHNSON in charge of that Cowboys team , we would be 6-0 now or worst 5-1 and we would all be saying " HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS " right now Jerry Jones , BRING JIMMY BACK
Bill said it himself. "WE were outcoached." Having said that I admire your honesty, finally. Now Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PingBack from http://www.knowyourdallascowboys.com/?p=373
Wow, you know HTCOWBOYS that is one hell of an idea. This may not be popular but how about Steve Mariucci. He is a better coach than the Lions record while he was there showed. He also has the personality that could light a fire with all of these players. I know he probably wouldn't want to coach TO again but just maybe it could be that volitle chemistry that could ignite this offense. I know crazy idea and there are better coaches out there but Bill's teams have not won a SB since when? Since 1990 that's when. I'm not saying that he is a bad coach but this league goes in cycles from passing to running to great defenses, etc. The hard nosed run it down their gut doesn't work with this team so he has to make a change or the team has to make a change. Go Big D!!!
Man , just imagine how many " rings " the Cowboys would have right now if Jerry Jones hadn t fired Jimmy . And right now look at the weapons we have this year , WOW , I can t beleive we are 3-3 and really , we saw lots of mistakes in those losts by lots of players O and D both , but all the blame should really go to the QB and the Offensive calls , just not that agressive and with weapons like we have we have to be agressive , O line problems , yes that is true they are not blocking well , but if they would just go on shotgun formation more often , seriously when another team see GLENN , TO ,WITTEN ,JJ and on a shotgun formation ,would you blitz so often ??? HELLS NO
Whoever wrote before Monday night's game that this was the "defining" game of the season for the Cowboys was right. Had the Cowboys won the game, they most likely would have won the division. Now, they will not make the playoffs and may well struggle to win 7 or 8 games. This team will not win consistently until they get a top notch quarterback. One thing is for sure -- Bledsoe will not be back next year and I would not be surprised at all if Parcells retires after this year, especially if the team only wins 5 or 6 games. At least they will get a decent draft pick who they can make inactive each week. Where is Vinnie when you need him? Bring on four more years of 5-11.
Man, iot is amazing how quickly you guys change from "Bledose holds the ball to long. The sacks are his fault. He can't move enough. ROmo is the answer. Stop doggin the line." to "Oh the line can't block, it dies nto matter who plays qb" you guys are pathetically hypocritical...at least you are predictable
It does not matter if you ar ein shotgun or not. When a player, a DE at that, isn't even touched......you have serious o line problems....two of those sacks Nwere untouched.......and I thought Mr Mobility Nomoromo was supposed to solve the sack problmes..you guys are losers.
YOu know what else I find funny? You guys harped all over Bledoe for having good games against bad teams, yet talked so much about our awesome run defense..............guess what....we hadn't stopped anyone fo any consequence on teh ground either....Houston....please....tennessee....please......once again hypocrits
Where do I begin! First of all those of you who keep chanting Romo! Romo! thinking he is the answer I hate to tell you that you are wrong. Preseason game don't count. Bledsoe is not the answer either. T.O. is not the answer as well. The key to the Cowboys acheiving victory will be the O-Line. If the QB does not have time to make a throw, or hand the ball off we are dust. I think the whole team needs to find chemistry. We can only hope they can all be on the same page and put together a win against a tough opponent. Good example is the Washington Redskins. Snyder spends all that money and still cannot produce a Superbowl Contender becasue there are to many egos on the team. We have a team that has the talent but we need them to play lights out. Again with all the talent we should not be to conservative and just let the players do what they do best and make plays.
Another name caller in the ranks well throw out all the names you want and as far as some of us being predictable, we mirror our team now don't we? As far as Romo goes, go ahead and bash him all you want. He came into a game where the NY defense knew he was going to throw and threw for more yards than Bledsoe was able to put up in a whole game against the Texans. The first INT Romo threw was a fluke because Strahan got his hand up and knocked the ball way into the air. Bledsoe wouldn't even have made it out of the pocket on that play and did you see who was in on the tackle after the INT. Romo thats who. Bledsoe would have been running to the sideline. One thing that was very revealing was how Bledsoe reacted after he was taken out of the game. He thinks he is a probowl QB and like Farve thinks that its not his job to help teach the rookie. He should have been up there trying to help Romo out. He needs to get over himself. If he acts like this if he is on the bench against Carolina then the team should just get rid of him and find someone who is willing to back up the rookie and help him out. Warner in Arizona knows he is not going to start there again but he is always there for his rookie helping him out and that will pay dividends in the end for them. If Bledsoe is not willing to do the same here then let him find a team that is willing to have him. Romo may not be the answer but you don't pay a guy big money to stay and not give him a shot. Find out now so you can formulate a plan for next year if he doesn't work out. As for those of us expressing our view here and you calling us losers...again mirroring the team that played last night. Grow up!!
unoeyedslim...Vanderjagt doesn't do any worse than Suisham did on kickoffs. Also, maybe Vanderjagt could kick some field goals if the offense wasnt too busy turning the ball over. A field goal in the redzone is better than INT. Maybe Parcells ought to kick field goals on first down once in redzone huh. Just think with that strategy we would have lost by less than 7. I know its totally stupid, but putting any blame on Vanderjagt is just retarded. JJ and BP knew he wasnt a solid kick off guy when they brought him in.
a couple of my observations from the game not already mentioned.....we have
