Opening Press Conference Highlights

The opening press conference commenced the 2007 Cowboys Training Camp.  The title:  The Built Ford Tough Cowboys Training Camp.

Ford set up a display of vehicles outside camp and their tent housed the opening press conference.  The coolest part was that, for the first time since I've been with the Cowboys, fans could actually attend the press conference.  Every other day throughout camp, we will also host the Lunch Break show from the Ford tent complete with a player that fans can ask questions.

As far as the highlights of the press conference:

  • Deon Anderson (FB), Doug Free (OT), and Alan Ball (CB) have all agreed on contracts
  • Both starting offensive tackles, Marc Columbo and Flozell Adams, will be MIA when camp opens as they recover from offseason knee surgeries.  Columbo may miss a week or two, while Adams is day-to-day.
  • Greg Ellis has been cleared to practice.  Jerry Jones says that he will meet with Ellis within the coming days to discuss matters not necessarily related to his contract.
  • When asked if he has something to prove, Wade Phillips responded, "Sure, I think I can prove I'm one of the best head coaches in the league."  You gotta love to hear that if you're a fan of this team!
  • When asked if he prefers to sign Romo to a contract extension now or after the season, Jerry Jones responded, "Both!"  Basically, he explained that the right contract terms now could be acceptable just as the right contract terms after the season could work.  Ultimately, my take is Romo can take less guaranteed money now on a long term deal before the season or really cash in after the season if he has a good season.  Jerry mentioned that he really pays guys who win Super Bowls....Romo could stand to break the bank if he has that kind of season.
  • Jerry Jones mentioned that he expected the team to be better this season than last.  When asked to define "better", he explained that he would consider a better end to the regular season better...I think we all would!

The video from the full press conference will be available within the next 15 minutes.

I think its a huge mistake to wait and pay Romo after the season and if he plays really well it will cost a arm and a leg to get him or let him go to FA>  Seems like bad biddness to me

As I posted earlier, the franchise tag is OK on Romo for next year. 12 million is better than Roger got his whole career.

With Flo and Colombo missing some practices,it

will take a while longer for them to get their timing down as a starting unit. On the other hand,it will give Marten and Free extra snaps.

I think the franchise tag will cost more than that I saw somewhere the figure but it seem dumb not to sign him now he will be cheaper now than later, the old addage pay me now or pay me later, later will cause havic with the cap!

Good to see Deon Anderson signed, I really think this guy can bring some serious toughness at the position and be a great fullback for this team.

hey guys whats going on, just got done listening to the new press conference.  Man im really starting to like Wade Phillips.  he really showed some confidence and even some cockiness in answering some of the questions.  you can obviously tell he thinks that he is a great coach and looks determined to prove that this year and really be recognized as a good head coach in this league.  i think he also wants to prove that its his ship now, captain BP is gone and he is going to really show you how its done.

Well lets hope all of that is true, he has not won a PO game as a Head Coach.

But he may have learned a lot from being at SD, I know his D is going to be great

Wade Wilson is a great QB coach.  Our Head Coach Wade Phillips has is a great 34 coach and may get his SB at Dallas, either this year or next

Oh, look at that, the blog posted everything all at once. It posted instantaneously. How do you like that?

Now that we're back to normal, I am worried about Marc Colombo. Who cares about Flozell? Something's missing from him that he lost in 2005. Marc Colombo looks like one mean son-of-a-gun. Did you see the way he handled Julius Peppers during Tony Romo's first start against Carolina? That's what I'm talking about. We need more of that from our O-Line. No more pansies that can't block anybody and have Romo run for his life and our running backs tackled behind the line of scrimmage.

Morning all, biggest concern for me going into the season is Left Tackle. Flo is once again, out of shape, and once again we will be waiting for him to hit his stride which once again, will probably not happen. That being said, we may have to hope McQuistan goes back to tackle as I am not sure I want Marten or Free, both of whom need work, as our left tackle.

I have a sneaky feeling Flo will not have a healthy year and the fact that he is out of shape lets me know he has no desire.

# re: Opening Press Conference Highlights

That is a very big concern, Flo is out of shape and this is in his contract year, not a good sign to kick off to camp..

Now he is crying hury while he tries to lose 50 pounds on the stationary bike.

If I were WP he would be doing wind sprints all day

Then Coloumbo, he like calls it to WP oh by the way Wade I got my 8 Million but I am hurt and Can't Work.

I still have concerns with AHenry not sure what is true status is on his knee.

I hope Courtney Brown or Ball or getting ready.

AHenry will probably get to Midseason then one of those guys will start replacing him.

It has to happen

Last year we were pretty much injury free

Just hope we are as fortunate this year

What are the odds?

These little setbacks start adding up if you know what i mean

# re: Opening Press Conference Highlights

I am stoked, I cant wait to get home this afternoon.  Practice starts at 2:30 and I get off at 3 so I should be able to catch some of the news hot off the press.  I hope all goes well this season and the injuries are limited to none, with the latter being preferred.  I feel Jerry should get Romo signed ASAP to save a bit on the cap next year.  He stated he has plenty space on the cap to sign key players, so even though he claims things are going great in negotiations, maybe he is not willing to offer enough at this stage to satisfy Romo or his agent.  Maybe they want to play out the year to get bigger money, maybe not, but I say Romo needs a contract like yesterday, Jerry already stated he feels Romo is the man, so wrap him up Jerry, give him the money, cause I am sure that is what Romo is saying, "SHOW ME THE MONEY."

My preseason predictions for this upcoming season, 13 - 3. NFC EAST CHAMPIONS once again, bring the title back to where it belongs.  NFC CHAMPIONS again bring the title back to Dallas and the icing on the cake, SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS first to 6.

I guess that makes my opinion of this season as SUPER BOWL OR BUST.

Am I a Dallas Homer, if having faith and believing in my team makes me a homer, then so be it.

The last couple days, I keep watching all my YOUTUBE COWBOYS videos and I am getting so stoked for the season to begin.  My wife thinks I am crazy, but oh well.

GO COWBOYS

# re: Opening Press Conference Highlights

Derek Eagleton's "The Rant" blog has always been here. The thing is, none of the "regulars" blogged here for obvious reasons -- no avatars, can't really tell who posted, etc.

Mick and Rob will be posting their blogs soon, and then everything will be set right.

Anthony Henry, to me, is the biggest disappointment. Look at the guy. He's 6'2'' and has the potential to cover those big wide receivers like Plexi-glass Duress. But he's always injured, so we never get to see his talent fully utilized.

Marc Colombo is the man. Don't give up on him at all. Did you see the way he mauled Julius Peppers? Marc Colombo is a good lineman, and I know he ain't fakin'. Well, neither is Flozell. But you understand what I mean.

Good morning Emp.  How are you this morning?  I agree with you about a. henry.  He definitely needs to step it out a notch this year.  It seems like there's always an excuse about his playing hurt.  Well, he should be healthy this year, so no more excuses.

This appears to be a Temp Fix while they fix.

AnHe, Well this is one time I hope they are right that Players did more to nurse and hide injury's under the old regime and as a result never healed properly and had diminished production. Well it would be nice anyways. We will see if the new staff makes Mr Henry a pro bowler.

Hey Bwande, Mary, Mleagues, Coogi. DC. coach

Yea I think this has to be the most anticipated season I can remember in years, Skip was just killing us on the tube whats NEW

But I really think if the D is anywhere neat top 5 we will kill, I still am hoping so that Carp is the ILB and not James (cant cover my mama) and that the FS postion has to be better with Hamlin and Watkins a year older and more experienced!  Spencer will be a montser on the opposite of Ware and hopefully Ellis will get back to normal and put away the Kleenex!

As for our D, I started thinking about it last night really, and man will it be nice to have a D where we can put fear in the opponent! Having an attack D were QB's are being sacked on a regular basis, and yards are hard to come by, man will that be nice to see when it is us and not who we are playing!
