Parcells Retires

Hey guys, we just got the word here at Valley Ranch.  Bill Parcells has decided to retire from coaching.  Here is Parcells' statement:

"I am  retiring from coaching football.  I want to thank Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones for their tremendous support over the last four years.  Also, the players, my coaching staff and others in the support group who have done so much to help.  Dallas is a great city and the Cowboys are an integral part of it.  I am hopeful that they are able to go forward from here.

"I am  in good health and feel lucky to have been able to coach in the NFL for an extended period of time.  I leave the game and the NFL with nothing but good feelings and gratitude to all the players, coaches and other people that have assisted me in that regard. "

We are gathering information and will be reporting on this matter all day so stay tuned...

Well, a new era in Dallas begins...
We can all be VERY thankful that it will NOT include zimmer, so our very talented defense can once again play up to its potential!

I think the only reason Parcells is retiring is b/c a certain *** is still on the team and Jerry said he wants him back.  It is a damn shame.  This team cannot move forward until TO is gone.

STEVE MARIUCHI would be a GREAT fit as the new coach! He can bring in the "West Coast" offence which would be a great fit for ROMO. He knows how to handle T.O. and is young and HUNGRY. My only question would be who would he bring in for D-coordinator? By the by like him or not, Tuna did FIX a-lot on this team...I wish him well.

Thank God!  Maybe all that time at the office was him and Jerry discussing how the 'leader' was quick to lay the blame everywhere but take no responsibility for the failures.  My personal thought, Jerry already knows who the next head coach is going to be, but let Bill play until everything was tidied up.  Reason for the others leaving without a fight, they knew also who's coming and had already been told, 'Thanks, but no thanks for your offer to stay.'  Hey 'NotATunaFan', the obvious is pretty much invisible to the idiot Mick, however, I wonder if he also knows but is just doing his job covering up.

They will be limited as to who wants to coach this team b/c of TO.  Can't bring in a young guy first-time head coach b/c of TO.  Can't bring in a stickler b/c of TO.  Who would want to come into a situation where one player has to be constantly pampered and babied and censored for his own good?

the only thing tuna did well was run a successful 2 man backfield, and build a decent line with 80 y/o mantle guard...running a 3-4 exposed roy williams because it forced him to play more coverage..Zimmer was not the best with the 3-4 and will flourish in ATL..Tuna hurt us, hopefully the next guy can bring in some balance.

# re: Parcells Retires

Danny White understands how to utilize a two back system which features a quality halfback & undersized fullback like Tony Dorsett & Ron Springs (I.e. Julius Jones & Marion Barber).  I haven't seen any team utilize the double screen like the Cowboys of the late 70's & 80's.

I understand that he is getting older, but I feel as though he has given up on the Cowboys because of this season.  Oh well, lets see if we can find a coach that maybe fits the stereotype of what Jerry Jones wants.  Who Could that be?  Too bad.  We had a shot for the next season.  Way to go Bill.  Loser.

# re: Parcells Retires

Well ding dong the witch is dead, yeah he improved the talent level, but he wasn't going to do anything with it.  We need to bring in someone who is capable of raising the level of play of your team and use the talent you have effectively.  Parcell's wasn't the man to do it.  Unfortunately, I think we're going to be stuck with MeO who is going to hamper developing any team chemistry w/ his antics, hopefully we'll cut him but I douby old Double JJ and Jr. will do what's best for the "TEAM".  We'll see what happens, however it turns out we can't do much worse since it's been 10 years since we've won a playoff game.  Good bye Manboobs, have fun at your next stop, you are what your record says you are.

WOW, I can't tell you how shocked I am!! Truly!  I know a lot of people wanted to see him go but I really believe as I read above that they were trying to reach an agreement and that they just couldn't get it worked out.  I kinda had a feeling that it may blow up because the report was that the final details were being worked out unless this "blows up".. which to me means there was a sticking point or two...

sucks considering 1/2 of the staff left too!!  With Bill leaving like this he just leaves so much open, so much for granted that after 4 years of training younger players now they'll be lost for another year or two...

Why did he wait for so long?  This is just like Parcells to leave everyone in the lurch.
So many questions now need to be answered.  What happens to the likes of Romo, TO, Glenn, Julius Jones, etc.

I love the off season so much happens... :-)

Martz, let's think about this, 2 good receiving TE's, 3 good receivers with a couple in training and good receivers coming out of the backfield, and a young, scrambling, passing QB??  Let's think about it, that might not be so bad.  But we still need to have a little "O" line help.  Put up a stud "O" line with the above parts and it could get interesting real fast.  How about grabbing Asante Samuels, if he's available?  That would do wonders for the defense.

I'm kinda glad tuna is leaving too, but I think we should get rid of TO as well.  I think he will be an hinderance getting a qualified coach!! If we get a defensive minded head coach (gregg Williams) and a good west coast style coordinator, we will be on point!!! We all see that defenses win championships, and Chicago proved my point well.  All grossman had to do was not loose the game and they would've won!! Personally I think we should trade TO for Randy Moss...I know it sounds crazy, but TO needs to learn what will happen when you are on a team that doesn't care about winning and a owner that will ruin his career (marcus Allen) before he give in to his demands.  yes Randy Moss is a handful, but he still is unstopable and put him in a good offense and its curtains!!

Novacath, do you have inside knowledge on the creditials of Danny White?  Everyone thinks that these has been Pro coaches or these inexperienced college coaches are the answer.  They very well may be the answer, but I would like to bring in someone with an fresh offense mind, that has played in the NFL.  Don't get me wrong I love the thought of Bob Stoops or Chris Petereson, but I believe the answer to the future lies in the past.  Tom Landry was the "Master" and Danny White was one of his disciples.  Danny white took the Arizona Rattlers to a couple of titles, coaching against some ex-professional coaches.  IF YOU KNOW THE GAME, THEN YOU CAN COACH!!!

# re: Parcells Retires

It wasn't Parcells defense.  If you listened to Ed Werner you'd know that he stated Zimmer was visibly confused and didn't know how to fix the defense.  How is that Parcells fault?  A good defensive co-ordinator could do the job.  Remember, he even let Zimmer run the 4-3 some against Detroit.  Yeah, keep blaming Parcells.  A lot of you will be awful quiet when Jones bring in a dud and we're 6-10.

FINALLY!!!  SOMEONE HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD!!!  The problem is Jerry "Can't Keep My Hands Off" Jones.  Let the players play, let the coaches coach, let the GM's bring in the talent, and let the owners sign the checks.  Jerry is a fan who knows enough football to be dangerous.  I wouldn't let him draft my fantasy team, though.

Of course your going to have to wait 2 weeks for Rivera but at this point unless you have the perfect person in mind you might as well wait and see.  Parcells strung this out so long no point in rushing to hire someone just to hire them.

Who would that be?

# re: Parcells Retires

Houston Nutt would fall right in line w/ Dave Campo, a guy that would be in over his head, he puts together good squads at Arky about once every 5 years, not a good formula for winning in the NFL.  Plus he's a bit goofy if you ask me.

Jubes, he'd be great for the "D", but what do we know of his offensive philosophy?

Not sure guys we'll have to keep our ears to the ground and see what we hear.

Jones, wouldn't have gone with this game [bp and jj game] unless he had something else in mind.  Trust me....

oh joy another few years of 5-11 yeah...there is really no coach out there ready to take on T.O.  I just hope there is not another Campo type coach on the horizion

# re: Parcells Retires

Thunder, I just don't see Jerry mailing ND a check reported to be in the amount of $10 million, and then giving Weiss $2+million a year.  I know he has beaucoup bucks, but that's a pretty steep price.

I think we may have a winner here!  LOL  It may not be Switzer but it'll be someone... JJ will go after Cowher... He can't help himself..LOL

# re: Parcells Retires

Jones will give Cowher about 8 to 10 million reasons a year to coach this team.

mchapman7, I agree that there is no coach ready for T.O.  I'm afraid it's back to 5-11 for a few years.

# re: Parcells Retires

Jerry should just hire himself, that's what he really has been wanting to do for 13 years.  That way we can kill him of this idea that he is some brilliant football mind and get him to hire a GM that knows something about running a team.  Instead we'll get some yes man who'll keep us mired in mediocrity for another 10 years!!!  Time will tell.

# re: Parcells Retires

No Cowher this year, JJ learned his lesson about giving up 2 first round picks on Galloway.  Just don't see that happening again.  I heard that the 'real' reason for the plastic surgery was to correct the scars from getting burned by that!!

Houston would be a horrible choice, he'd probably love the job to get out from under Broyles and the freefall his team in going to take in the next year or so.  If your going to go the college route there are much better choices out there.

# re: Parcells Retires

So we say goodbye to the parcells project, i have to say i will miss his allure on the sidelines and in the press conferences. i also regret the decision to let a true offensive talent like peyton go to N.O. but hind site is allways 20/20 and tommorrow will bring a new day and by the end of the month we all will pay are taxes. Another thing im sure of is the Jones Family will have "Our" best interests in mind, By that i of coarse mean the cowboys as a contender  in 07,. so the search continues who will deal with a raw talent that this Dallas Squad has? Who will deal with the egos and icons? Maybe Adam Shefter will have something on his blackberry before the superbowl. I leave saying Thanks for the good and the bad Coach Parcells, good luck and good health.

# re: Parcells Retires

Cboys4life,

I am sure he asked Jerry for an extension till Jan, 2009 and I am sure he asked Jerry to flush a few players that Jerry loved.

Jerry loves his FA and draft picks.  Any coach who calls out Jerry's stupid picks is not welcome.

I suspect TO and Roy Williams are two of them.

# re: Parcells Retires

If there was a fallout, much as I hate to say it, TO was PART, not all, of the problem.  JJ realizes though, dropped passes or not, he's a good one to have around.  An off year and he's
