jcowboy: dantzerly:
For the Cowboys to improve, Jason Garrett will have to do more by diversifying his play calling with more screens,pitch-outs, draws, spread formations to utilize the speed this team will have during the coming season, especially with this guy from Texas Tech, pacman, Austin and Felix Jones...boy what some speed the boys have this year. Garrett will have to be more imaginative in his play design and in game calls.
NEED TO AQUIRE A WR TO BE OUR #2,PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets see How can we improve our offense??? I think we just have. Felix Jones and Deon Anderson back. I look at the "Good ol Days" and I see where Aikman , Irvin ,Harper and Novacek would get the necessary lead and then Emmit would drive the ball down the opponents throat. This is what we have in our camp now Lets hope that Phillips and Garrett will utilize it in a way that leads to the return of the Glory Days.
I just wanted to say thanx for giving Harper some deserved credit and love.I was in a dispute earlier on Harpers effectiveness or at least trying to show he was valuable....let's not forget "Moose" either....

Who could forget Harper or Moose? Funny, I was looking for a Moose jersey the other day, come to think of it. Those were some glory days. I do hope we get back to the superbowl, and I hope it is a trifecta of superbowls...ultimately making a dynasty out of our young team. Let's see what happens.

We can do it,we have mostly all the pieces...Even with no relief for Owens for now is still a major concern for me.I think we have the pieces needed to reach and conquer our goal...SUPERBOWL VICTORIES!!!!....plural....meaning more than one!!!I just wish that we would "secure" that furture by lining up a solid #2.I know i'm probably beating a dead horse when i say we need a 2 besides Witten...

Re: How can the Cowboys improve their offense next year?
IMHO, I think that we need more trick plays. Maybe some WR passes /OR/ Handoff to RB, reverse to WR, WR pass to another WR /OR/ Direct snap to RB /OR/ HEY, HERE'S AN IDEA... SPLITBACKS!!!! We have 2 dangerous RBs, who have completely different styles, and if you have them both in the backfield at the same time, what are you going to expect? I've seen it once or twice in the past couple of years, but as an I formation, I think splitbacks would be destructive with our backs!
Maybe Garrett should just play some Madden and really look at the plays... Flea flickers, splitbacks, 2 tight end packages, 4 wide receiver packages, reverses, double reverses, Fake Quarterback keep pitch to RB (while everybody thinks the QB is taking it accross the line), HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE plays worked against us when playing New Orleans, and worked for us this Pro Bowl (fake punt, punt return audible, etc.)
So many things we can do with this talent, but it's like we're scared to do it. Scared to be too good. Pull out all the stops this year. TRICK some people, out smart them. That's what I think will help our offense. I think we are a passing first offense, but passes predictably. I also think we could try not running on first down EVERY series. And ESPECIALLY running right down the middle the first play of every game. Every game but one last year was a JJ run into the gut of the offense. PREDICTABLE!!!!!!!!!!! Change SOMETHING! We were amazing at the beginning of the year because nobody had seen this offense, but it's pretty easy to figure us out 'cause we NEVER change ANYTHING and just run safe predictable plays.
Sorry for the rant.......

Re: How can the Cowboys improve their offense next year?
rphillips:
The Cowboys scored 425 points on offense in 2006. Not too shabby. Downright prolific, at times.
But I'm sure Cowboys fans believe the offense could've used Terrell Owens differently. Or maybe Terry Glenn or Jason Witten.
Jason Garrett and Tony Sparano both likely have the challenge of improving last year's offense. How can they do it?
By establishing an identity. This is who we are. STOP US.
Bill Walsh=it is no secret now. Would Have almost the whole first drive put on paper, who cares how many spy cameras. This is who we are, stop us.
T.O. should have caught more then Moss by 3. They are both good, but ours is better. But ask me why bring a wild, mean fighting dog to the arena. And tell him to lay low.
Come==- on the DOG agents.
So here lies the dilemma, we have a mean dog, a wild dog. Terrell Owens. Damn it. And he wants the ball.
He caught 13 tds with Parcells. 15 with the "guru". Yea progress, I will admit. But we need, "new".
The Cowboys always have some to add to the complexity of the game, not the play of the game,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the complexity... "this is who we are, but with something unique"
This is how they improve their offensive production. By establishing an identity.

Re: How can the Cowboys improve their offense next year?
We had a bum for a starting RB last year. Problem fixed.
Aikman's gonna throw, deep slant. Caught, 35. HARPER'S BREAK'N AWAAAYYY! HARPER'S GOT MIDFIELD! HARPER'S GOT THE 40, HARPER'S GOT THE 30, HARPER'S GOT THE 20, HARPER'S GOT THE 10.......
The sound of a dynasty beginning.

I said this before and I will say it again. This special teams coach stinks & sucks. Fire him right now and bring in someone who can be productive. This is a glaring weakness of the Cowboys and should be address pronto !
