The Cowboys scored 425 points on offense in 2006. Not too shabby. Downright prolific, at times.

But I'm sure Cowboys fans believe the offense could've used Terrell Owens differently. Or maybe Terry Glenn or Jason Witten.

Jason Garrett and Tony Sparano both likely have the challenge of improving last year's offense. How can they do it?

Definitely more creative play calling. I mean how many times during the game is T.O. gonna run that go route along the sideline to only catch the ball outbounds.

By not having to play catch-up the whole game because of turnovers.

The improved play of the offensive line will definitely help.  A training camp as the starter under his belt will definitely help Romo.  Theres a big difference going into camp as the starter vs the backup.

We are very very VERY talented at the skill positions on offense.  If we can dictate the pace of the game and keep possession of the ball, we are in good hands.

Last year was a very productive year as far as stats go for our offense (statistics wise) but even then, there are many areas we could improve. 

I wouldn't be surpised (i would be bummed) if we didn't improve on those stats and become an even more potent offense.

 

Its OK to take some chances and be a bit more aggressive when it comes to offensive play-calling.

I like the fact that WP is going to make it a point to use our playmakers to their strengths and not let schemes interfere with talent.

We are going to be deadly...

better use of our players...i always wondered why when we needed a 3rd down conversion was t.o. running down the field with terry glenn running the short slant...doesnt make sense...t.o. is the bigger stronger reciever...he should be the one running the slant with glenn goin down the field

That made me so angry last year.

Eventhough it was true, it bugged me how much the announcers pointed out that TO was running his routes out of bounds...

Agreed.  Its going to be fun watching this experienced offense (with a great deal of continuity at the skilled positions) dominate opposing defenses...

We need to improve at the left and right guard positions.

If we have single coverage on any of our recievers (including Crayton) we need to throw the ball up and give our big play guys a chance. If you look at last year to many teams did that to us and it worked because seven times out of ten the reciever either did his job and came down with the ball or got the pass interference call. That really bothered me because I feel we have the best recieving group in the NFL we just have to be more aggressive with the talent.

More cross routes, those always worked.

It starts with the offensive line. Either upgrading it with better players, or the current players playing at a higher level then they did last year. This would or should result in a more affect running game. Also assuming we keep both running backs that we have now, using them in the passing game would also help open up the offense even more. Like using them with short pass's, such as screen pass's, pass's out into the flats. Expanding on the routs our receivers run as well. *Cause to me it sure seemed like we ran alot of the same ones many times* Doing more in routs, such as slats. With TO's size this route could work to our advantage since he has the size and power over alot of the corners in the league. Also since he is good with yards after the catch. The TE's need to be more involved then they have been. Not just Witten either, especially if we go with two TE sets, get both of them involved, mix it up a bit. When we get inside the ten yard line. We shouldn't go with the run to much. Mix this up also, with the passing game more often. We scored alot of points on the offensive side of the ball last year. By expanding it we should score even more.

Teach Romo to get a grip on the ball.

Don't force the pass into coverage.

If you feel pressure, run with the damn ball, don't just take a sack waiting for someone to get open.

Teach Julius that he's actually allowed to run through arm tackles.

Occasionally hand-off to Oliver 'the beast' Hoyte and allow him to take out some of his pent-up linebacker aggression on the defense.

 

I think that the playcalling will change given that Jones implied that Garrett will handle that this year.

 

I really believe the offense will be better this year then last year. Especially since the offensive coaches will not be held back on a leash like they have been. Also believe that the offensive play book will be much bigger then it was last year. Meaning we will be doing alot more plays. Hopefully spreading the ball around more. This offense will play to win instead of play to not lose. Romo I feel will be improved and will continue to improve. Which will make us that much better.

Keep Drew Bledsoe, who is smart, has a cannon arm and is tough, in case Romo does not pan out and continues his slide, and get smart offensive lineman to compliment flozell adams for pass and run blocking, and get barber and jones to blitz block.  Glenn and Witten are proven, with the exception of a few compared to the many TO's drops which have proved costly over the course of the entire season and hopefully the offense will improve..

I don't think Garrett's going to be the lone play caller, or at least he's not gonna have total control over the offense. (Last years play caller will definately help out). 

I think the biggest thing the team can do to improve: is play with some excitement or some passion.  They just looked so burned out or defeated at some times, dragging their feet.  As far as changing offensive play: the biggest struggles were along the offensive line, which struggled to pass protect, and sometimes didn't penetrate the defense and open holes for the running game.  I'd like to see the team draft a monster guard and release Marco Rivera, maybe even trade him if they can get something for him.  We also need to get Jason Witten more involved near the goal line.  1 TD is not even close to what his production should've been.  Maybe this year, it won't just be 3 straight hand-offs up the gut to Barber everytime we get inside the 10 yard line...

On another note, do you guys think Terry Glenn will be back next year?  He's owed a $5 million roster bonus it looks like.  That seems pretty steep for him...what do you think, will both Owens and Glenn return?  If one goes, I'm going to say that it's Glenn.
