Final Thoughts on the 2007 NFL Draft:

The Cowboys completed the 2007 draft with eight picks: One first, one third, two fourths, two sixths and two sevenths. They also got Cleveland's first-rounder in 2008.

While team owner Jerry Jones said entering the draft the Cowboys had their "bases covered", he still thinks these draft picks can be contributors.

How do you think the Cowboys fared? What can they expect from their picks?

The Draft wasn't a sexy one by any means of the imagination but when you look at it, the Cowboys got  Clevelands first next year and they were still able to get their guy in Anthony Spencer...this years draft will be judged on who they get next year

alot of guys where complaining today and im not gonna lie  i was for some picks too but...overall now that i look back i realized we really didnt need any outstanding players except on the d line and we got it in spencer... i think jones was sort of experimenting and seeing what he could do with these guys.... i liked the stanback pick but cmon jerry ya didnt even pick the best kicker available and i also woulda liked to see  a fs or wr picked with that second rounder (Jarrett or somthing or in the late rounds Dallas Baker or Deyon Williams btw who wasnt drafted so look into him in the free agent signings hehe?

Re: Final Thoughts on the 2007 NFL Draft:

We drafted depth and special teams.

I'm glad we picked up some legit OL talent to compete and perhaps, a bookend to play on the other side of DWare.

I won't lie...I wanted Jarvis Moss but apparently so did Mikey.

Think of Bobby Carpenter as money in your pocket. Now think of yourself as not a retard that needs to spend it immediately. Great!

I think Jerry did a nice job picking the guy they wanted plus a next year's first round pick. We got some value and added depth, specially to the O-line with our early picks, we filled up some positions were we could be stronger and better (kicker and FB) on the middle rounds and we grabbed intreaguing quality guys on the last rounds and give them a nice chance to prove themselves

i think this was a great draft, we go0t what will most likely be a top 5 pick net year, and still got the guy wade really wanted.  Oline was an important place too, and in the later rounds we got a few outstanding atheletes. who will get a chance to prove they can play.

i dont think we needed a sexy draft, but next year, i bet we get one..  is there gunna be an ed reed like FS, or a calvin jhonson like WR next year?

I am happy with the 1st rounder from the browns for next year but I am trying to understand where we are going with our first round selections recently.  Spencer might be a great player, I hope he is, but this makes 4 first round picks at outside linebacker.  Our last 3 first picks have been OLBs.  I would have liked to see us pick up Alan Branch to split time with Fergy with the 26th pick.  Other than that, I like the OTs, and look forward to next year and the possibility of drafting some offense, or "juice".

looking back on the draft, I really like the pick with anthony spencer, the experts said he was a big steal at number 26. He will help the pass rush which was a real weak spot this last season. We couldnt have found a better team to trade with then the browns, we will have a top ten pick next year.

Not the type that gets into all the buzz about the draft.  First round takes entirely too long, specially since you've had all of two months to build contingency list.  I did, however like the fact that Mason Crosby was sitting there in Round 6 and then we go and selected another kicker.  What happened to all the Mason Crosby hype that was around here a year ago?

Itws mentioned  in another thread that at the combine folk did much better than Crosby.  I think that the combine would actually give a better representation of a kicker under pressure than any college records.  Overall I think the Cowboy Brain trust did their job and made some good picks.

Re: Final Thoughts on the 2007 NFL Draft:

Can anyone make sense of this draft besides JJ? This was an awful draft. Just when i started getting happy with a cowboys draft(trading our #1 for clevelands 08 #1) they trade our early picks to move up and get yet another de/lb.Spencer looks like he could be a good player in the nfl, but so did Carpenter and Spears. How many years are they gonna keep drafting flop De's, and Lb's in hope they build a 3-4 defense. So we waist last years pick to pick up an extra pick in 08. Why not just stay put after the initial trade and start building with 2 second round picks, and 3, 4, etc... Jarret was still there.Nxt year Owens and Glenn could be gone, Grubbs, Sears were also still there, and quite a few good pass rushers fell back past the 22nd 2nd round pick. We even past up the best kicker in the draft to pick up a guy to just kickoff for us and hopefully turn into a full time kicker? This is the problem with an owner who wants to try to play Gm.

I have to agree with you Liferfanz. Didn't look like they came to the meeting to take care of business. JJ just came to play around and do some horse trading. I hope they have a plan to pick up some more serious help at safety, nose tackle and wide reciever... or it's just going to be another 8-8 or 9-7 season.

Re: Final Thoughts on the 2007 NFL Draft:

Overall, I think this draft will prove to be a good one, in that it puts the Cowboys in a good position to strengthen the team for the future.

1 - 2 first round draft picks in 2008 - Huge leverage potential

2 - The draft picks from this draft should add depth - which apparently was the plan all along

3 - It's possible we could have solved our problem at placekicker

Since the general consensus was that - Dallas didn't have any glaring needs going into the draft, having filled the holes in FA, the draft strategy was successful.

    Good job
