Everson Walls is another guy who could rate his is second all time in INTs for the Cowboys. Surrounded by an already star-studded defensive unit, which included Randy White, Ed "Too Tall" Jones, Harvey Martin, and Charlie Waters, Walls continued his outstanding play by leading the league in interceptions in two more seasons, in 1982 and 1985. He received Pro Bowl honors each of those years, and made it again in 1983. During this time, however, the Cowboys were unable to reclaim their dominance in the league, as they lost the NFC title game in 1982 and fell short again in 1983 and 1985. Despite this, Walls remained one of the most feared cover cornerbacks in the league; eventually, quarterbacks were forced to stop throwing the ball to his side. But because of his teams not winning the SB I think he is overlooked but deff one of our greatest CB to ever play for us. I will never forget the signs in the endzone "UP AGAINST THE WALL"

Great call on Walls.  I hadn't thought of him.

Totally agree.  I overlooked him as well.

    What about Bill Bates?

Only if they accept players for their contributions to the special teams and I'm not sure if they do or not.

To me Billy Bates is a ROH guy but I doubt it unless like Wolverine says for SP teams but man he empitamized what a football player is and any team would be proud to have a guy like him to represent them. Kenny Gant also!

    Wolverine:
Landry had 20 winning seasons though, Jimmy had 3.  To compare the two is really not fair.

Wolv, I was not trying to compare Jimmy with Landry.  I even prefaced that with a disclaimer before I made the comment. Of course it would be ridiculous to make that comparison.  I was just saying Jimmy did win two SBs (like Landry) and was instrumental in restoring the franchise.  That needs to be formally recognized and the ROH should be a consideration in my opinion.

Yeah I know, I was just busting your chops.  Regardless of tenure, both coaches are immeasurably part of the legacy of this team and for that both of them should receive due credit.

I put Bill Bates in the "Heart of the Franchise" category, along with Walt Garrison, several of the linemen of the 1960s and 1970s, maybe Robert Newhouse, maybe Dan Reeves, maybe Dat Nguyen (I'd have to think about this a little bit harder for some more names). These are guys who were Cowboys through and through, even if their accomplishments may not be enough for other recognition.

    Should be in:

    Drew Pearson

    Cornell Green

    Darren Woodson

    Ed Jones

    Harvey Martin

    Charlie Waters

    Jay Novacek

    Jimmy Johnson

    Consider:

    Daryl Johnston

    Nate Newton

    Mark Tuinei

    Erik Williams

    Mark Stepnoski

They were the core group that opened holes for the NFL’s all-time leading rusher.  Some formal recognition is deserved.

Have to disagree on Jimmy Johnson, while he did very well while he was here from 1989-1994, he was not here long and did not contribute for the length of time that most of the guys in the Ring did.
Does Jimmy Johnson qualify as a hired gun?

All these guys are great. I too, would love to see Walls in there.

I didn't see Charles Haley on anybody's list. What, was he here for just 4 years. Maybe not long enough in terms of years played for us but as far as contributions, his name should be mentioned just for 4 years of greatness.

    The most glaring omissions from the Ring of Honor have to be;

    Drew Pearson and Harvey Martin

Without these 2 players, the Cowboys would not have made it to any of the 3 Super Bowls in the late 70s..

As much as I don't like putting someone in the ROH with so few years of service I think Jimmy deserves to be in. Replacing Landry was no easy task.

    Gil Brandt yes
    Larry Allen yes
    Darren Woodson yes
    Moose 50 - 50
    Novacek 50 - 50
    Perason yes
