As an aspiring great coach myself, I have to repect and learn from the greats before me.

Landry was no doubt one of the greatest and most innovative coaches ever. A lot of Cowboys fans come out of the womb and are trained to respect him, and they don't realize the great things he has done and amount of respect other teams fans give him.

    Exactly.

People don't always realize how many, many facets of the entire NFL were invented by, or influenced by coach Landry. From the 4/3 defense, to the man-in motion, to the combine, to computers, to the revival of the shotgun, to methods of disguising blitz packages and reads, to scouting methods, to so many other things too numerous to mention. The man not only helped to build the Dallas Cowboys, but helped to build the NFL.

One would be hard pressed to name a better coach. One would be hard pressed to name a better innovator. One would be even harder pressed to name a coach who was better at both. Lombardi is a legend, and I am not taking anything away from him, but he won alot in the early days with a loaded team, few teams in the league, no FA, and very little real competition, and the SB trophy itself is named after him. Was coach Landry not at least his equal, if not his superior?

No coach who has a stadium named after him in the entire NFL could stack up against Landry. Were it not for Landry, the Cowboys would not have grown to what they are today, and we might not even have an awesome new NFL flagship stadium on the way. When Jerry is considering the vast amounts of cash he will surely be offered for the naming rights, he might do well to consider that.

Please refresh my memory, was it Landry or Lombardi that had the offensive line stand up during motion to screen the defense pre-snap?

    That was Landry's innovation.

673 names so far. Not bad, but Cowboys fans could do better. This might be something worth posting at other sites as well, just to spread the word. Perhaps it could be spread to ESPN, Fox, CBS, MySpace, and the numerous Cowboys fan sites, as well as other NFL fan sites, that are out there?
I think every team in the league wants to trade their best players to the Cowboys in exchange for the Cowboys garbage (Roy, Spears, Carpenter, etc.). My kool aide stays spicked.

Where do we go to sign this petition?  Whoever thought of this, much love and thanks.
It's the sound of death knocking at your door. It's the sound of pain, suffering, anguish, and gnashing of teeth. It's the smell of burning sulfur. The undertones reek of deathly snarls and painful growls. Then everything is suddenly quiet........from the bottom of your stomach the butterflies turn to moths and except for your heart racing, all you hear is.........footsteps.......getting closer......and closer.....and closer.....and....

    ...the sound of joy.

Not gonna happen. I would LOVE it to, but given the stadium costs 1 billion and JJ is coming up with 600 million, and so we still have the price of a REGULAR stadium left over to pay for, and taxes only cover some of it, expect it to be named something more like "Exxon-Mobile Stadium" not "Landry Stadium".
GEAUX LSU TIGERS!!!!! (And, of course, Go Cowboys also!!!)

JaMarcus Russell current contract (total cap hit)- 6 years, $61 million, $32 million guaranteed. ($10+ million/ year average)
Adrian Peterson current contract (total cap hit)- 6 years, $40.5 million, $17 million guaranteed ($6.75 million/ year average)

I  just made it 709, this is a great idea . Ever since I heard we were building a new stadium I've hoped it would honor Tom Landry in it's name. There is no one more deserving thats for sure .

This is a great idea, but unless we can all pitch in more money than some giant corporation I think we're scewred. Plus all the good ones are taken, I sure hope we don't end up with Stayfree or Fruit of the Loom Stadium. Valiant effort though, and you got my sig.

I used to like surprises, then Jerry Jones came along.

I can see it now " Light Days Pantie Liner Memorial Stadium"

    Or "Trojan Max Field"

    Somebody stop me please.

I eat, sleep, drink Cowboys. Settle for nothing less than a Lombardi in your trophy case. NFC Championship trophy is a door stop around here.

Maybe Landry's Restaurants seafood chain will be a sponsor.  Then we can call it Landry Stadium, and the company benefits from the double meaning.

See that's the kind of innovative ideas we need on this project Yes

The corporate sponsorship name is probably a done deal, but I am hoping that Jerry might still go for Tom Landry Field or some such.

I just signed it.  Even if it was named Tom Landry Field at whatever the corporate name would be, would be fine with me.
