I would have no problem with Barber sharing carries if he wasn't doing it with a back averaging 3.9 yards per carry. There's no doubt you're going to last longer getting hit 15-20 times as opposed to 40. I do have a problem with Jones running into the safety when I know Barber would've made him miss or carried him another 8 yards. Jones did great at the beginning of last year, but this is 2007 and we have a good chance to win the Super Bowl. All I want is the most productive player at each position in as much as possible, and right now at running back the man is Marion Barber.

I used to like surprises, then Jerry Jones came along.

I think it'll be a argument as long as both are with the team. MB3 may not technically start the game, but he appears to be the favorite to finish games and get the most carries at this point. But a 50 yard TD run by Julius will help his cause.

Come on guys.  We're 12-1 with our current backs.  Could things be better?  Probably a couple of the wins may have been by a bigger margin, but all in all we're 12-1.  We're not as much a running team as we are a passing team (hense the reason Romo has so many 300 yard games).

Things are not going to change before the end of the season so why argue the point?  I think this topic is dead but since you guys feel the need to keep talking about the same things over and over, I will just shrug my shoulders, shake my head (as Wolvie probably did when he re-opened this thing) and let the discussion continue.  Smile

Well I just want to make my point that Barber is the more dangerous of the two right now and that If he needed to Barber could keep this level of production or even increase it if Jones were to get injured if Barber were to go out I think our running game would suffer heavily

Perfect offseason: Barber stays and gets a long contract √

For the past 14 years, from 1994 through 2008, The U has had at least one player selected in the first round of the NFL draft, including 19 in 4 years a record unmatched by any other college or university.

THe point is it wouldnt suffer at all, i mean JJ was a 1000 yard back barring injuries before we even drafted barber, he even got a 1000 yards after barber came in. Our running game would be perfectly fine and we may even start seeing 130-190 yard performances again should barber go down (knock on wood). im not saying we dont need barber, what i am saying is that JJ has more talent then barber even if its not being used.

The way the offense is set up to Barber's style is indicitve that the coaches feel they'll find more success letting Barber do his thing than Jones give Barber the bulk of the carries and he'll put up big yards too Barber can reach 1000 yards this season anyways I think he's around 100 yards short Barber is looked at as a bigger threat than Jones teams worry about MBIII beating them not Jones

We need to run more plays w/ both backs in the game.

That's what I think to run some misdirection plays fake dive toss  plays espeacially down near the goal line that would let jones get more space so he could be more effective and allow barber to not have to worry about 3 or 4 guys waiting for him at the line

I don't know if I'd say Jones has MORE talent than Barber.. just different talents which would be better served in a different system with a different usage pattern. Julius WAS on pace for just shy of 1600 yards last year before the shift in offensive philosophy.. not his rookie year, not four years ago, LAST YEAR.

Doing the right thing may hurt in the short run but not doing it hurts far more in the long run.

The only thing is he needs space to be effective he just doesn't break tackles like Barber like that play by MBIII against the Pats Anybody out there can you really say JJ would have pulled that off

Probably not.. but by the same token Jones would never have run backwards into the end zone to begin with. When he was met in the hole, Jones would have run into the linebacker, got tackled for a 1 yard or no gain and we'd scrimmage the next play. Barber ran backwards, almost gave up a safety TWICE and ended up gaining 2 yards. You call it exciting, I call it realizing that you just did something incredibly stupid and fighting like hell not to have to explain to the coaches why you ran backwards and gave up a safety in a game we were fighting for our lives in.  Or think about this, if you watch that play again, you can see that two of our lineman could easily have been called for holding in the end zone. The net result being that we would have given up the safety even despite of all Barber's efforts.  It's not a smart play dudes and I guarantee you Barber will play another 10 years in the league and never do it again.

I don't think many backs would have made that play.

My point exactly that was a great feat by a great back he's a a special kind of player that gives you momentum and gets the offense pumping he gives the offense attitude and gives us the power game to keep us from being a finese team
