I haven't been following this lately, partly because I honestly didn't think Goodell was going to do anything about it.  After Walsh handed the tapes over to the NFL and they were reviewed by Goodell and company, what came of it...anything?  Nothing?

Apparently they were allowing players on IR to practice with the rest of the team... and have for quite some time. Cant give you a source as I saw it on TV.

He knows thats against the rules but goes ahead and does it anyway. To me that just shows the complete contempt he has for the laws of the game.

Should they be punished for breaking that rule or not?.. something should happen shouldnt it?.

but, Goodell has again ruled on the allegation pre-investigation.  Here is the excerpt from his post-Walsh meeting:

"Two new pieces of information that we did pick up in the three hours that were of note:  One is that they had a tape of – he indicated that there was a tape at one point in time of a player inappropriately practicing.  He was a player that was on injured reserve.  He practiced, I believe, back in 2001.  He identified the player. We're verifying that.  So that is something that we have been looking into.

I would tell you up front, though, that the way we normally handle those matters, those are a matter of a team fine, if they are verified, and then they are handled on that basis.  I would expect that if we were to verify it, that I would consider it part of the fine that I implemented against the Patriots, close to $750,000 between the Patriots and Bill Belichick, and I would not take any further action on that.  But we will be verifying that."

You can find the whole steaming pile of Goodell*, fittingly, on the cheatriot* site:

so I guess Bobby Kraft's $3/4 MM bought him a get out of jail free card for some period of time, Roger?  Interesting concept of fair play and justice.

One good thing you can say about goodell* - once you buy him, he stays bought.

how bout porter going off on the pats earlier today. at least one player is speaking out how they really feel.

Porter sounds off, says Patriots 'cheated'

An angry Joey Porter thinks the Patriots cheated their way to championships and the NFL's destruction of Spygate tapes suggested the league had something to hide after conducting its investigation.

"They [the Patriots] cheated, there should be an asterisk. They cheated and they got caught," the All-Pro linebacker, who spent eight seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before joining Miami in free agency last season, said in an interview on "NFL Live."

"Why, if you have nothing to hide, would you destroy [the evidence]? That's how I've looked at it from the beginning. Why destroy something that doesn't have to be destroyed? Let everyone know what was on the tapes. Why would you destroy them so fast?"

The Spygate investigation began after the NFL confiscated tapes from a team employee who recorded the New York Jets' defensive signals in the 2007 season opener. Coach Bill Belichick was fined $500,000; the team was fined $250,000 and forced to forfeit its 2008 first-round draft choice.

Porter called Belichick's fine a "slap on the wrist didn't fit the crime."

Since former Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh met earlier this month with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to detail the team's illegal taping of opponents' coaching signals, Belichick has attempted to minimize Spygate's impact.

They [the Patriots] cheated, there should be an asterisk. They cheated and they got caught.

    --Joey Porter

"They went from zero to 60 overnight and [Belichick] went from a good coach to a great great coach and he got caught cheating," Porter said on "NFL Live."

At a news conference on May 13, Goodell said: "I didn't accept Bill Belichick's explanation for what happened and I still don't to this day."

On May 16, Belichick told the CBS Evening News: "I made a mistake. I was wrong. I was wrong."

After meeting with Walsh, Goodell said of a further investigation: "I don't know where else I would turn, but I reserve the right to review new information if it comes up."

Walsh sent eight tapes to the league that show the Patriots recording the play-calling signals of five opponents in six games between 2000 and 2002, one of which was the 2002 AFC Championship Game that Porter's Steelers lost to New England 24-17.

"If you're to tell me that happened, there's no way I can look at it and feel like I didn't get cheated," Porter said.

Porter also said that NFL players he knows share similar sentiments about the Patriots concerning Spygate.

"Anybody I know that lost to them in big games, they're very upset about it," Porter said.

ty for this. makes u wonder when they played us last season, if they cheated during that game too. hell every game the Pats played prior to the SB, just how many times did they cheat and they werent caught? one will never know, but theres alays going to be that doubt in me and alot of other football fans.

its one reason i dont trust the Pats. yeah we have our rivals, but they dont cheat to beat us. from now on, the way i see it, who will ever feel settled when the Pats take the field, if theyre not cheating?

    Thats complete BS...

How can they say "something new" and then say it is covered by the original fine?

I dunno.. people are starting to get sick of the whole thing and I guess Good-for-fkall will be hoping it just dies a slow death if he ignores it enough.

I don't give a rat's ass about the Patsies, they don't even deserve a reply.

Do the Patriots deserve an asterisk for every Super Bowl they've won?

I believe they do, if it is suspected that they have cheated in every Superbowl they have played in.

If they have tape from games from back when they won there first Bowl, then they should all be nullified.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  They won the superbowl, missed the playoffs, and then won it again...that is more suspicious than anything IMO
