Joey Jordan: BenGone:
There Will Be Blood SUCKED in my opinion. Every scene was drawn out beyond anything sane. It could have been a great movie, but the dialogue was terribly weak, the movie was way too long, and the score and underlying 'music' (it wasn't really music at all) was terrible and unusually placed.
Whoever made this movie should be beaten with a waterhose.
That about sums it up. It wasn't the money involved in renting it. It was the 2+ hours I can't get back. No kidding. The sad thing is it could have been a damn good movie, but it turned out to be nothing more than a waste of time. DDLewis was the only positive of the film.

Wow...are you serious? It was a character study. It was based in the characters, not the plot. And the score was by Johnny Greendwood from Radiohead, and it was intentionally unusual. The movie was amazing. Daniel Day Lewis is the best actor in the world.

Recently, a group of moviemakers made an excellent movie with no plot, that was particularly a character study based on the boring lives of kids in small, midwestern towns: Napolean Dynamite. TWBB was just awful. For instance, when the boy got his ear drums busted on the well, DDL ran up there and picked him up, and ran all the way back down. We got it: He had to run up there and run back, but was it really necessary to film the whole sequence of him running up the hill and running all the way back down? Of course not. It's called editing. And whether the music was intentionally or unintentionally unusual doesn't change the fact that it still sucked. I love Clapton but that doesn't mean I have to accept every song he writes as genius just because he wrote it. To me, it seemed that the focuses of this movie were the character portrayed by DDL and how
brutal of a business early oil discovery was. That's a character and a plot. They did an excellent job of portraying the characters, but a poor job of delivering the movie. If people wanted the long, drawn out, overly detailed version, they would have read the book.

Re: No Country, There Will Be Blood.
The ending? In my opinion the message was, once again the woman broke the man. When Carla (Kelly Macdonald) Lewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) wife, refused to call the coin toss, she won the mental game with Anton Chirgul (Javier Bardem) He decided to give up the chase and walked off in to the sunset. At least that was my take on it.

I have to agree. I thought it was a great movie. I rented it last week and watched it twice that very night. I actually thought it was hilarious.
"Drainage! Drainage, Eli, you boy. Drained dry. I'm so sorry. Here, if you have a milkshake, and I have a milkshake, and I have a straw. There it is, that's a straw, you see? You watching?. And my straw reaches acroooooooss the room, and starts to drink your milkshake... I... drink... your... milkshake! I drink it up!"
"I'm a family man- I run a family business. This is my son and my partner, H.W. Plainview."
Freak'n hilarious. Daniel Day Lewis is the best. I almost like Daniel Pleasantview more than Bill "the butcher" Cutting. Almost.

"I like to think of myself as an oilman. As an oilman, I hope that you'll forgive just good old fashioned plain-speaking. Now, this work that we do is very much a family enterprise- I work side by side with my wonderful son, H.W.- I think one or two of you might have met him already. "

"And I encourage my men to bring their families, as well. Of course it makes for an ever so much more rewarding life for them. Family means children. Children means education. So wherever we set up camp, education is a necessity, and we're just so happy to take care of that. So let's build a wonderful school in Little Boston. These children are the future that we strive for and so they should have the very best of things. "

Castaway. Character study, getting off the island is almost tiertiary to seeing the challenges Chuck has to endure in the physical and mental sense.
Into the Wild, character study.
Those are a quick two that plots are secondary to the character issues.

You guys are entitled to your opinion, but I think there are few people in ah...the Academy...and the ah...film industry who would disagree with the claims that There Will Be Blood sucked. They might know something about film, you might say.

Two movies I enjoyed. And it's just my opinion. I didn't like the movie. And just because "The Academy" nominates something, doesn't make it a good flick. It just means the movie excelled in different areas, which I agree that DDL did a great job...he always does. The music editing was good, but the music itself was incredibly strange. It was also a relatively original idea, considering it was an adaptation. So yeah, I agree that those certain areas excelled, but the overall finished product wasn't all that great imo. You can put an award winning paint job on a car, an award winning set of rims, and seats made of the finest Italian leather, but if the engine is junk, the car is still a piece of crap.

Remember when he killed the other bounty hunter, and when the blood spilled onto the floor he moved his shoes up to keep them clean? That was what I got from it.
