Incredible how EVERYONE, EVERYONE has forgot about Steve Slaton. Give me him any day. He will most likely slip to the 2nd RD. It's really funny how the media determines who certain teams want, though certain teams don't buy into it. If the Cowboys could get him I would go crazy. He is clearly a 1st RD guy. Also, Ray Rice will be a pretty good 2nd RD pick. Kevin Johnson? This has got to be the deepest Draft for RB's every. Some good backs in the 2nd RD.

*Mendenhall, McFadden, Stewart, *J. Charles, C. Johnson, Rice. I liked Slaton during the college season but lookig back at his runs he REALLY reminds me of Julius Jones. No real strength but speedy as heck (faster than Jones). Am I wrong?

Mendehall & Rice/K. Smith would be the perfect combo IMO

I really like Chris Johnson. His play making ability is phenominol. He would bring a dangerous change of pace to the backfield, with MBlll. A great return man, and a very good third down guy in the open field. He would fit this team greatly. he could take Crayton's spot at punt returner, and spell MBlll at times.
Expect the unexpected!

EVERYONE? Go back and read the posts! Off the top of my head I can say that both myself and Presto have Steve Slaton on our list of wants.

Look, Slayton ran beside White... whom, in his own right, was pretty darn dynamic. When you have a mobile QB, your stats will be more impressive than if you were next to an imobile guy. The D has to respect the threat of the run from the QB, so the running back seems to get a little more leeway. I am not saying that Slayton is not stellar... I am just saying he might not be as attractive as game tape suggests... but if you put him next to a michael vick, then he is probably a super star. All that I am saying is this... in 2007, white had 197 rushes for 1,335 yards... an average of 6.8 yards a carry and 14 touchdowns... that sounds like you have to respect him, clearing the way for Slayton to chew you up.

The Cowboys clearly need running back depth after losing Julius Jones to free agency and deciding not to tender restricted free agent Tyson Thompson. Pro Bowler Marion Barber will be back, but he needs a complementary piece.Team owner Jerry Jones and Co. likely will focus on running back in next weekend's draft. Which prospects in a deep class interest you most?
I would like to see Darren McFadden in the Silver, Blue, and White. Logically thinking he will not be there when the pick comes our way, but the RBs that peak my interest are Rashard Mendenhall, Felix Jones, and Chris Johnson. If we can any of these prospects, any one of them could turn out to be better than McFadden, but only time will tell. We can get a WR, RB, and CB/S in the first two rounds, and we still have 5 picks left after that to pick up other WR help as well as a QB, RB, OL, DL, and CB/S help also if we so choose.
We have good WRs on the team but we will need to add more to go along with what can become a great RB corps. We will need to develop QB Talent on the team or pick up a Vet that can come in if needed. Just thinking out loud.
I am ready to get this thing over with and get to the season. I AM READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL.

I want Chris Johnson. I think he can carry the load if Barber goes down. Jason Garret will just have to use him the same as the eagles use westbrook.

In no attempt to compare Tony Romo to Michael Vick, we do have mobile quarterback. No, he's not the threat to run that Vick or Vince Young is, but he can move out of the pocket and free lance pretty darn well. My idea with Slaton is much the way I felt we should have done with Julius Jones (again no attempt of comparison here) I think Slaton could be very good catching the ball out of the backfield. Additionally, he could be a decoy to draw the linebackers to him thus freeing up Witten or even Crayton over the middle. I also remain convinced that having a runningback with some speed and a threat to take it to the house is a definite asset! For whatever reason, Julius Jones no longer had that ability, or he wasn't used to take advantage of his talent.

Re: Which running back draft prospects interest you most?
Triple L, why is everyone so bent on Felix Jones? Taking him in the first round would be a huge mistake in my opinion. I remember people talking about him as being very weak at the bench press, and I'm thinking to myself "Wow, we went from Smith (Emmitt) to Jones (Julius) to possibly Felix (another Jones), but wasn't that the catch? Wasn't Julius not powerful enough to break tackles? Oh, I see now, people want weak running backs just because they are fast, and power doesn't matter? Jamaal Charles would be a better pick in the 2nd round than Jones in the first, because he has power to go along with that speed. You have to be able to break tackles, not just run fast. You have to have vision. Even if we get Charles, we should seriously think of adding Ray Rice also, or Chris Johnson, with our third. Our dream first round draft would be...
22. DRC, Jenkins, Cason, or Stewart if he falls
28. Kenny Phillips
2nd rd- Jamaal Charles or Chris Johnson
3rd rd- Ray Rice
The worst draft would be Jones at 22, then a WR at 28.
We need to get this draft right to make up for the Tuna's bad draft (Remember? Jacob Rogers? Stephen Peterman? Etc., Etc.)
If Stewart is there at 22, then we draft a CB at 28 or the 2nd, but try hard to pick Phillips at 28 instead.

Either Jones, Charles, Johnson, Slaton, Stewart. Johnson and Jones bring in that dynamic return game with them, so I'd go with those two. We can pick up Slaton in the 5th - 6th round.

Re: Which running back draft prospects interest you most?
Allen Patrick would be a solid mid-later round pick... Originally recruited as a safety, he's not only a hustler, but also versatile. He filled in seemlessly for the current rookie of the year. Think.
