Should the Cowboys attempt to trade for a veteran wide receiver?

Re: Should the Cowboys attempt to trade for a veteran wide receiver?
Koren Robinson is available now. He is worth a look. I don't think we should trade for a veteran receiver. We have too many other receiving options.

Also Chris Henry is available, but not sure if he is Too Risky or not,,,Koren Robinson would a 3rd or 4th WR as he is now, but if Hurd or Austin are showing signs of improving, then it may be best we don't bring in any Veteran receivers, unless injuries come up in training camp.

MDRedneck:That's why I was saying that I was dissapointed that we didn't draft a WR. We could have had Levell Hawkins out of CAL. We don't need more veterans on our WR depth chart. WR is an area we MUST address in the draft next year.
First I felt the ONLY WR worth drafting this year in a round where Dallas could have got him is that Caldwell kid from Flordia. He seems like a playmaker to me. The only issue with drafting a WR is that someone would have to leave the roster. So, knowing that who would be worth replacing and could the drafted WR (or one on the roster) take the cut players place. To elaborate a bit, if Miles Austin were cut, could a drafted WR come in and take his WR duties from last season? Granted there is not much to go one, but that is what would have to happen. Dallas is not desperate for a WR right now and can develop players on the roster ONLY if there is room for them to get some work.

What they needed to do was replace Glenn with a young veteran (trade or free agency) and that wouldn't effect the depth chart! Not sure they can pull of a trade at this point and it's the bargain bin in free agency? You would have to hit on a good one in the draft for immediate production! What are the odds?

I'm on the fence about Koren...give me some opions so that i might learn a little more on how peole feel;or what they know...I don't know that much about him.I've seen him play a couple of times;he can play...but needs to be more consistent from the little i've seen.I might give him a try though.Never know????

Caldwell???Where the love for the Texas boy...Does anyone look in there backyards anymore???I personally beleive Lima Sweed is going to blossum into a probowl caliber player quickly!Must agree with D though,i like Glenn but he was Parcells' boy...a 50/50 chance on him returning to his once prominent form is unfortulately unlikely.I'm not so down on our WR core as i've previously posted, but just think that they(WR core) need some help...veteran help that wont really hit our cap or effect the roster in a "major" way.If we have to drop one to sign another...SO BE IT!!!!There is one who's role is now definetly diminished with the addition of players with PR and KR capibilities.I know some of you would think i'm refering to Crayton...NOPE!!!Send Miles;miles away from us....only if we can get a decent return..."ONLY"

So As I stated above, the only WR worth drafting in the round where Dallas could have picked one would have been Caldwell since he was taken 97th and Dallas traded out of the thrid round when he was still available. Now, I like Sweed and think he will be a good pro, but he was drafted long before Dallas picked in the second round. SO based on how the draft played out is what I am making my statement upon. I am not trying to say that Caldwell was the best WR in the draft. I just think that he has the best shot of contributing where Dallas could have taken him. True Dallas could have picked Sweed with their second 1st rounder, or traded down, or anything like that. But just looking at the draft and assuming that Dallas needed Running back and Corner more that WR, I think that Caldwell would have been a solid pick. Agree with Miles and Glenn, the only thing about Glenn is he is a vet and if healthy I do not see any draftee or reasonable vet out there to replace him.

I believe there are reasons Koren is still available out there with so many teams needing experienced wrs. Maybe a failed test or baggage...

No No No. Romo can win with what he has.

Re: Should the Cowboys attempt to trade for a veteran wide receiver?
rphillips:
Two first-round picks provide flexibility in the draft, and perhaps even outside of it. Cowboys owner and general Jerry Jones wasn't specific, but confirmed his team has inquired about trading for a veteran wide receiver.
The three names mentioned most prominently around the league are Cincinnati's Chad Johnson, Arizona's Anquan Boldin and Detroit's Roy Williams. Jones said the Cowboys haven't inquired about Johnson, however, and both Arizona and Detroit have dismissed the idea of trading their respective star receivers.
If a team is interested, should the Cowboys trade pick(s) for a veteran wideout?
The Cowboys need to pick up another wide receiver. JJ is playing a dangerous game here. The odds aren't stacked in his favor. However, I can assure that JJ will and the 'Boys will pick up a veteran WR in free agency next year. Chad Johnson will not be a Bengal at this time next year. Have the Lions re-signed Roy Williams yet? If not, Roy Williams may be on his way home. The truth of the matter is that the 'Boys need a #2 WR. This year's draft was filled with #2 and #3 WRs. If you were looking for a #1 WR, this year's group stunk. As I said before, the 'Boys are looking for Alvin Harper not Irvin.

Re: Should the Cowboys attempt to trade for a veteran wide receiver?
We got it done pretty damn good last year with what we have and the rookies from last year will play even better this year, plus if Glenn can play which i think he will...hell even if we get him for half a game every game at full speed we will be better off than last year...if we could get a deal done for a vet. wr such as a williams or a ocho then i am all for it,but does it have to happen....no....i think Hurd and Stanback will really emerge this season and i think JJ is counting on that also...and dont leave out Austin he was coming along pretty well and did a great job running back kicks...

We should be ok. But if we can land a deal why not. Depends on the cost. Dont hold your breath though.
