I agree, I do miss the old Roy but I think Jerry is sending a clear message to Roy.  Either put up, or shut up.  If he's been whining in Wade's ear or Jerry's ear about how the CB isn't covering his man then now is the time to prove himself right.  There is no excuse.  We have possible 3 Pro Bowl Caliber CB's in Henry, Newman, and Pacman 1 potential pro-bowler in Mike Jenkins and 1 potential starter in Scandrick, all with enough speed to cover any WR in the league.  Not to mention Jerry is slow cookin Alan Ball and Pat Watkins to possible take over Roy's position.  Also with 5 Pretty good CB's I wouldn't be surprised to see Anthony Henry roll over to Safety in Passing situations.  Roy was a great safety but if he doesn't start making plays that are as big as his contract Jerry will have to wave bye-bye to Roy when he's on the plane to Free Agency.

I couldn't agree more.  This a put up or shut up season for Roy.  He will have no excuses and no place to hide.  I hope his game comes back and he plays like he did BUT if not, he needs to go.

Absolutly correct...Roy never could cover even back in his younger years...we just had good corners and he could roam and attack..this year we should be set at cb so no more excuses..i wanna see him kill someone every game, cause if he dont he better retire....JJ wont keep him around..but actually i think he will play alot better this year with him not having to cover so much, it will probly take a few games for the defensive cordinator to start trusting the cbs in 1 on 1 coverage..and if we get a good pass rush then the whole secondary will look like pro bowlers...

    I kinda agree with Glimmerman.

Wade already thinks he solved the problem. In Sunday's paper, he said in San Diego he and Stewart called some exotic Ds and had 4 CBs on the field and didn't put any pressure on the safety to cover. They could not do the same here until now hopefully. In this case, the safety in question probably won't be on the field to cover anybody. The only time he will be a liability is when they pass on 1st down. They also need to teach him some basic tackling techniques like using his arms because he's really gone down the tubes in that area.

I'm glad everyone hates Roy Willaims, and loves to blame him for our Safety problem. Roy Willaims was never brought in to be a cover safety. He is supposed to roam free and make plays. When we actually had a good Secondary, and a good COVER SAFETY in Darren Woodson, Roy was lights out. He would roam, make HUGE hits, pick off passes, and was an all out force. Now, it appears our Secondary will be good, and Hamlin seems to do well in our system, we will see this year if he was just a one year wonder looking for huge money, or if he is legit. I think you will see the Roy of old, making plays, picking of passes, and nailing people. I am so excited about the Secondary this year, what was one of the worst in the NFL, may now be the best in the NFL.

One more thing, our Special Teams returns may very well be the best in the NFL also. Felix Jones is a monster on returns, and so is Pacman on punt returns. We did so many things to get better this draft, we are going to put some points on the board, and stop some people on D. I really think we have a very good chance to win the Super Bowl.

I don't hate Roy at all.  His play has declined over the last couple of years for whatever reason. I have my opinion on his decline as I'm sure everyone has on here.  I want to see him come back to form but understand, even under the optimum circumstance, Roy has responsibility on any given play.  He can't just freelance as he feels.  That is what causes big plays against the D.  He needs to get his head in the game and gain the confidence he once showed.

Yeah, all and all though, I can't wait till next year.  3 pro bowl caliber CB's, 1 potential pro bowl CB.  I'm pretty sure Eli is going to pee his panties when he can't find anyone open and he has Ware, Canty, Ellis, James, Spears, Ratliff, Spencer, and/or Williams barrelling down on him.

Well as far covering needs, c-.  we needed a tight end, just not that early, we needed 2 running backs and 2 cornerbacks, although I think we could  have gotten better players.  I understand he is the ultimate sidekick back to Barbarian, but i really dont think Barber will be here next year unless its a franchise tag, because he is asking for way too much money.  If Barber is somehow here long term than I like this pick more.

no WR anywhere in the draft, your kiddin me, right?  Overall C-

Draft is over, time for Jerry to get to the buisiness at hand. A) Get Canty signed, B) get Barber signed and C) extend TO. We need to remove any distractions for him and get his deal done if we are going to keep him and since we didn't go for any WRs, looks like we are which is fine by me. He plays better when he doesn't have to worry about the business side. We can wait on Newman because I don't think we can keep both and he may injure himself and he's going to be 31 this year. The rap on him in the draft was his age. Besides we just picked up 3 CBs and I think than was in anticipation of losing Newman. We need to decide on Hamlin because if he has another good year and hits the market, $$$. We may move Henry to FS so Hamlin may be expendable. Watkins has the opportunity but I am tired of waiting on this kid. Came here pissed he was picked in the 5th and that is looking more like a reach to me. Ball and Brown better step up or they won't even make the cut. Good teams don't have the time to wait on projects. Poor teams are loaded with them.

    Re: 2008 NFL Draft Recap:

I believe this may be the best draft that Jerry has had on his own (No JJ or Tuna) and will prove beneficial.  I would give us a solid B or B plus.  Felix Jones will be the homerun hitter we wanted with Julius Jones regardless if MBIII is back or not.  If MBIII does not come back we covered that contingency.  We also took out some Pacman insurance with the 2 CBs, if we are lucky and Pacman has matured (sorry haters, ppl actually do grow up and fly right) then we have a very solid Defensive backfield, which had been a liability before.  Our return game and STs will get a boost from these picks as well.

Now to to address the naysayers that insist that we should have taken another WR in THIS draft, are you crazy?  Nobody jumped out at me as being that much better than we have in our young guys (Hurd, Austin, etc.).  Also as far as our choice in TE i think he could be a poor man's Gates if he is developed.  Remember Witten is hardly close to retiring or anything.  Too many of us "fans" seem to be stuck in that "other side of the fence mode".  The grass is fine on this side, believe in what we are doing until you see real proof otherwise.  I think our Number 1s will make significant impacts, wait and see.

Roy is instinctive and not even borderline cerebral. It's like making the horse collar last year and acting shocked that they threw the flag. I believe if I had a rule named for me, I'd be a little more aware. I don't know if he's dense or lazy but it is evident when he gets in the game, he doesn't know what plays are run out of formations and finds himself in no man's land too often. Bradie's got the same problem. Hopefully Zach can help in that area as recognition is a real strength of his. I saw Roy and Bradie frozen on too many plays last season and sometimes that is caused by being overly concerned with the other players. This D is solid, Parcells is gone, no more excuses.

    Re: 2008 NFL Draft Recap:

I don't think they were sending a message to Roy.  Sending a messege to Roy would have been drafting Phillips and/or another safety.  There were others decent ones out there available.  If anyone got a message it was MBIII.  It might have been subtle, but I think it says we want you on our team, but your not going to hold us hostage either.

I don't give grades until 3 years after.  Unless you count the 2001 draft.  It only took two years to figure out it was a big fat F--. As I mentioned earlier, it was Quincy (career up in smoke) Carter, Tony (I can't tackle) Dixon, Willie (where are the donuts) Blade, Markus (not the man of) Steele, Matt (Alleged Steriod Dealer) Lehr, Daleroy (I play like Jimmy the actor) Stewart, Colston (I can't spell NFL if you spotted me the first two letters) Weatherington, John (someone nixed me) Nix, and Char-ron (I was okay in college) Dorsey.  None of these idiots did anything in the NFL worth bragging about.  9 players and you couldn't hit on any of them.  Carter's background was not a secret Jerry.  I guess you thought you could change him just like you could Pacman.  Being a real Cowboy's fan, I really do wish you well, for my sake as well as other blue bloods.

The thing that scares me is that the 2001 draft and this have the same elements.  Jerry made all the picks.  Anytime you have 2 first rounders, you should have a great draft, not a decent one.

Thanx bro, though if he is so good, why he wasn´t considered on the top corners at the draft?

Is it because of his character issues?

I think he was the 3rd corner taken.  But yeah, the only knock on him was his character issues.  In fact he was considered the 2nd best CB in the draft before Cromartie had a ridiculous Combine.   But that's why he was a steal at 25.

I agree with the 3 year grade; however, when you've got a team on the cusp and a GM that stated he was looking for immediate help to get the 6th this season, I would give those first 2 an A today. We really upgraded at RB and will have both of them on the field because Felix can fill the role as a receiver as well. And as far as him being there at 28, nothing but speculation. The move to 25 to take Jenkins was a very good move. Highest rated CB at being ready to play and was projected in most mocks (for whatever that's worth) at top 10, 15 at worst. We will be able to grade this one this season because those 2 are going to get a lot of playing time. Bottom line is if a 13-3 team with 13 pbs gets the lower picks from the last 3 drafts on the field this year, we are in deep trouble.

What off the field issues has Jenkins had? I knew Talib had them but I hadn't heard that about Jenkins.

I agree Couch Coach,  However, it is only an upgrade if Felix Jones "IS" better than Julius Jones.  Otherwise the best it can be is a break even because Julius was a part of last year 13-4 record.  I will also agree that Jenkins was the best player available at that pick.

Reality is we don't know how good they are going to be right now.  Many people didn't think Emmitt was a HOF player.  He had some of the same criticisms that the kid out of GT has.  "He doesn't have break away speed."  Ain't saying he will be a HOF player, I am simply saying right now you can only give a grade to the selection of the player.  You can't grade the players talent at this point.

If you are asking me to grade the "selections", I would have to say B.  Mainly because I believe Mendenhall was a better "selection" at that point.  I am not totally sure because I have heard that he had a work ethic problem.  I believe there was a better player when we took Bennett and I believe there was a better player when they took Walden.

Gman, the speed issue has been overplayed for too long. I remember Brandt's comments about Emmitt. If he's too slow, how come you don't see him getting caught from behind? Choice does have a little of that Emmitt making the move in the hole which Parcells said was his best advantage. I think Felix will be an upgrade over Julius if just for vision alone but the only credit I give to Julius was the threat he posed to keep the D honest, a threat he didn't deliver on the last two seasons. The change of teams will benefit us and him.
