    Cornerback Comparison Information

I did some research and wanted to share it with you fellow fans.

Coming into the year of their drafts these are the numbers on Terance Newman and Anthony Henry our current starting corners:

    Terance Newman - 5ft. 10 inches, 205 lbs., 4.39 forty

    Anthony Henry - 6ft. 1 inch, 205 lbs., 4.59 forty

    This years corners:

Adam Jones - the year he was drafted was 5ft. 10 inches, 187 lbs., 4.40 forty

Mike Jenkins - 6ft. 0 inches, 200 lbs., 4.38 forty (tied for 5th fastest for cornerbacks at combine)

Orlando Scandrick - 5ft. 10 inches, 192 lbs., 4.32 forty (2nd fastest for cornerbacks at combine)  He was projected to go late 2nd round.

While height might cause us some problems covering some of this years big name receivers taken in the draft, our cornerbacks are faster than they are.  Our secondary should become one of our strenghts this season, instead of being our biggest weakness.  Also, now we have many options on punt and kick off returners.  I think we have definitely improved our defense and special teams, with the cornerbacks we have obtained!

Our safeties could still use some work, but assuming Pacman gets re-instated and shakes off the rust fairly quickly, I have no issue with saying we have the clear cut best secondary in football, in terms of talent and the top, and all the way through, assuming we stay healthy (glares at Henry)

I would like to see more CBs at 6ft+ to compete better with the taller WRs. But wioth their speed and abilities, im very happy with our CBs. I hope to see Ball and Oglbyse(sp?) contribute also.

    Tall CBs are pretty rare.

Also, with Orlando Scandrick getting drafted, Oglesby has essentially no shot to make the team, unless he can somehow beat out ball. Cause Newman, Henry, Pacman, and Jenkins are basically guaranteed roster slots. Scandrick WILL make the team; he's really good. And Ball is a guy they wanna keep around, as he is apparently developing well. But to keep 7 corners? I doubt it.

I know tall CBs are rare, im just talking about 6'+ guys. There were some 6'0, 6'1" guys. But i wanted Jenkens from the start and im glad we got him.

It's like Mike Jenkins is Anthony Henry and Terrence Newman combined! lol

    Henry's height + Newman's speed.

He was claimed off waivers from the Ravens.

    He is expendable.

    I wonder if he'll wear 21? =P

I read somewhere Terrence Newman wanted it at first but some other guy had it....then Julius Jones spoiled it. -_-

jerry or wade, please just move henry to free safety,  and trade away roy williams for that vet reciever we want. put hamlin to strong and we have a defensive backfield i only dream about. henry with his 4.59 wont last much longer at corner. at 6'1 205 is good free safety

That might work if Henry can stay healthy.

I thought jenkins measured in at 5"10 and not 6 feet. Not that this makes him any worse of a player but just curious.
