Re: Should there be a "Playoff System" in NCAA Football?
Yes, there should be a playoff.
Division I-A college football (now known as the Football Bowl Subdivision) is the only college sport that does NOT have an NCAA-sanctioned way to determining its national champion.
In my mind, there's truly NEVER been a national champion in major college football. Between "winning" a national title based on polls, or by winning the fraudulent BCS title, there hasn't been a legitimate champ ever.
I don't understand why the big schools can't have a playoff. Division I-AA, Division II, Division III, NAIA, all have playoff systems.
The current bowl system sucks.
Super Bowl VI: Dallas 24, Miami 3 Super Bowl XII: Dallas 27, Denver 10 Super Bowl XXVII: Dallas 52, Buffalo 17 Super Bowl XXVIII: Dallas 30, Buffalo 13 Super Bowl XXX: Dallas 27, Pittsburgh 17

Re: Should there be a "Playoff System" in NCAA Football?
Yes because its complete crap that teams in tough conferences get screwed out of playing for the title or they have these "co-champions" etc...
A lot of people know that if there was a playoff UGA would have probably been in the championship game last year.
However they wont do it because the BCS gets a lot of money for having the "freecreditreport.com Bowl" or other stupid no name bowls. -.-

The NCAA is a bunch of old relics who insist on keeping an archaic system that most people hate. The codgers are pretty much going to have to kick off before anything is changed.
The sad part is that a playoff system would probably double the fan base of college football in general. Fringe fans, myself included, would be much more interested if they would finally have a true champion. Can you imagine the TV contract for a 16-32 team playoff bracket?
OK, Ellis is a bit above average.

The dudes that make the decisions in the NCAA are like an old man who has crapped his pants but walks around stinking and refusing to change them because they are his favorite pants.

Like a previous poster said, they would lose money because they regular season games wouldn't be as important, and they wouldn't be able to have all of there Bowl games.

I disagree of both counts. I think the playoff system would easily generate more money than the current system and wouldn't affect the regular season at all. And use the bowl games as part of a playoff system. Someone might actually watch them.

That's the other side of the argument. But I ask, why does every regular season game have to mean so much? Why is a teams entire season and chance at a ring, on the line in week one? Don't football teams need the chance to gel while making some mistakes along the way? Especially college kids. Why the need for perfection?
Answer. Money. And who can controll it. The dinosaurs than run the NCAA have control. And they'll never let go. I
t's a huge reason why I don't look down on the kids that take money on the side.

And why should regular season games mean so much? In every sport that I know of besides college football, teams must play well enough to make the playoffs during the season, which means every game is important. But, college football is the only sport I know of that expects perfection. This is totally unrealistic.
And then add in the fans like me and probably Drewstar who would be much more of a fan if a playoff system were instituted. Right now I care very little about college football which means lower TV ratings, less money in shirts and caps and such, and a smaller fan base in general. Not me specifically, but football fans in general. If the playoffs were instituted, my interest would peak and I would think many people's would also. So, why would you not bring in a system that would increase fan bases, which means more revenue? Not having a playoff really makes no sense at all, no matter how many ways you slice it.

Re: Should there be a "Playoff System" in NCAA Football?
I don't think revenue is being lost with the current system. I think with the amount of Bowl games that would be lost to a playoff format, revenue would most likely go down.
Now do I think they should change the format? I think it should be like the Final Four in basketball. If you're good enough you make it to the sweet 16 and well you know the rest. It's worked for basketball all these years, I think it can work for football as well.
New season, new players, new result!

Don't lose the bowl games. Make some of them part of the playoffs, and let the others be separate.
I believe w/ the increased interest that revenue would skyrocket.

Re: Should there be a "Playoff System" in NCAA Football?
Absolutely there should be Playoffs , this would keep Teams in tough Conferences a chance to play for the title .. The BCS is based off of Polls its ridiculous and politics play a large role..
Come on half these teams getting ranked have no business especially since they dont even play a Conference Championship game .. Big 12 and SEC teams get screwed royally ...
