Re: Official Roy Williams Thread
Anyone that says that Roy is too small to play WILB in our 3-4 scheme. Look at Zach Thomas. 5'11" and 228 lbs. Roy is 6'0" 225 lbs.

Roy Williams will always be Roy Williams...and keep getting burned by any TE in coverage. He will not change, no matter what jersey # he wears. And for some of the other apologies for him I keep hearing, it's really getting annoying. Every year it's the same apoligies for him, time after time, and still he keeps getting beat 1-on-1 by either TEs, RBs, or WRs. He needs to go bye-bye. Trade him. Well I get sick of every time someone scores a touchdown Roy gets the blame. 10 other guys on the field unless you forget. TE's are gonna score. WR's are gonna score. How about some credit for the plays Roy makes? i.e. support your team instead of singling out certain players to gripe about.
Hey, Wyley, this is how I support our 'Boys. I don't get complacent with just complacency. When is the last time our 'Boys have won a playoff game? Oh, yeah, it's been like 12 years, remember? Quit blinding yourself in "homerism" and wake up and smell the roses, Wyley. Like Ol' 34-32 used to say, you are what your record says you are, and so far the record says we are a 12 year playoff-winless team. You can have all of the talent in the world, but if you don't continue to strive to learn from mistakes and try to improve on your weaknesses, then you are bound to continue committing the same mistakes. Personally, I like Ol' Roy and I support him. But I've seen enough in 6 years of football play out of him. He is what he is...YOU deal with that. It's called FOOTBALL, so either make the necessary adjustments in order to take it to the next level and succeed there, or else just smile being complacent and winless in the playoffs. Boy, sometimes I wonder if Cowboys fans have started accepting being winless in the playoffs...or something like that??? There is no "I" in team, remember? It's the nature of the beast. Go Cowboys!!!

Size similarities doesn't make you a LB. Zach Thomas when healthy is 1 of the best LBs in Football. There are plenty of guys as big and/or bigger than Emmitt.......but there is only 1 Emmitt. You are kidding yourself if you think Roy could play ILB to the standards of a healthy Zach Thomas.

Now there ya go. It's Roy's fault we lost in the playoffs. I should of known. Nothing about a cornerback getting toasted in the last 2 minutes of the first half. Nothing about dropped passes and stopping on routes. It's all Roy's fault. What a freakin DEAD horse. I only post on here supporting Roy from time to time just in case the .002% chance someone who matters might actually check on what people are saying. Usually I dont waste my time. I want them to know he does have supporters, people who remember the plays he has made to help this team make it to the playoffs. You know, if they would have listened to you guys, Greg Ellis would have been gone last year. How about we support him in his second year with his third coach/ system? The guy can play. No he won't make every play. But no one else will either.
We have the depth
We have the talent
We have the coach
We have more experience
I do expect us to have one of the best defenses ever, even for a team that's had the label doomsday defense for some time now.

Re: Official Roy Williams Thread
Roy's going to have the chance this year to prove everybody right or wrong. We are facing the best TEs in the game this year with the exceptions of Gates and Gonzales.
NFC East The giants have jeramy shockey and kevin boss. redskins have chris cooley and drafted fred davis considered by some as the top te in the draft.. eagles have l.j. smith
AFC North you got Todd Heap for the Ravens. Pitts Heat Miller who's a poor man's Jason Witten the Steelers also have Matt Spaeth who at 6 7 is a red zone target. Kellen Winslow who's consider a top 5 TE. Ben Utecht signed away from Indy for Cincy.
NFC West doesn't have quite the talent but Vernon Davis could be scary with a QB who can throw the ball. Leonard Pope for the Cards who is a red zone threat. Randy McMicheal for ST Louis who probably had a poor 1st year with the Rams because of injury problems on the OLine. Seahawks have Will Heller and I don't know anything about him (seahawks website's depth chart has him listed as 1st string.)
Green Bay has Donald Lee and even though Favre is gone I don't believe Aaron Rodgers is going to be that big of a drop off.
Tampa Bay signed Jerramy Stevens and if he can stay out of trouble he should make a impact on thier team.
I'm not saying anything about Roy that Roy hasn't said himself. He as a hard time in coverage and with the weapons listed above I can't see a team not trying to take advantage of that. Personally I hope Roy goes out there and blows it up because I'm always going to root for the Cowboy no matter what.

It's funny to me how everyone thinks they have the answer to this poor bastards positioning. It seems to me that the general concensus is that he is finally done..... "Too slow.... too old....can't cover.....overpaid.....sheds blocks....undersized....etc,etc,etc........
If that's the case, instead of arguing with each other, why don't we just have an official, "ALL AGREE THAT ROY WILLIAMS SUCK AND SHOULD BE RELEASE" thread, and everyone just sign thier name in. No input of your opinion anymore, since there are so many, just sign in and agree.
This subject has beaten the dead horse so much that the damn horse was resurrected back to life.

I never, ever said that it was ALL Roy's fault for losing in the playoffs. But, he did contribute BIG TIME. And for someone who is one of the most veteran guys on the team, he sure has declined since his rookie year. And as for your saying, "But no one else will either....make every play." Well, you are wrong there, because Ol' Darren Woodson was able to make every play, time in and time out!!! Remember??? Call me spoiled, but I have seen that that is possible. For Roy's pay, he should be able to do everything. But, obviously, since he'll probably be kept out on certain pass plays, maybe he should give back some of his yearly salary and allow Ol' Jerry to use it on bringing in someone else...like a veteran WR who can help take all the pressure off of T.O. or something?

Well the other thread on Roy Willias got to 40 pages really fast, and then there wasn't a thread for the longest time, and I kept asking for one and finally the mods put one up. Fans got to understand that Roy is still the face of the Cowboys despite having Romo and Ware on this team, Roy is still a big part of this team on and off the field.

Toasted? Last 2 minutes? That guy was burned to ashes, and it only took 47 seconds. SHAMEFUL!!!! So many think Roy was the weak link last year, but IMO he was a damn site stronger than Reeves. Roy got made to look a lot worse than he was having to try to pick up the slack created by J Reeves and N Jones. If Roy starts to lay some wood on recievers across the middle this year, he'll be loved before mid-season rolls around.

Not in this defense, but he could play LB in Indy, Tampa or Carolina. Cato June can't shed blocks to save his life either. Neither can Thomas Davis or Gary Brackett. Derrick Brooks isn't the strongest LB either. Or Jon Vilma. All of these guys are under 6-1 and about 230 lbs.
Roy could play LB in a cover two defense. He'd just have to work harder and get his playing weight back up to around 235. I always felt that Roy was more of a LB than a DB. Probably to late in his career to make a switch.
I agree to an extent......but Thomas Davis.....Greg Blue.....and Sean Jones are similar in that they played SS at UGA and are LBs/SS in the pros.....but ALL of the above mentioned shed blocks and react better than Roy. Jonathan Vilma and Brooks were outstanding LBs in college.....the only thing they have similar with Roy is build.
Like I said, it's probably to late for a switch. Roy's a big boy. And he's pretty strong. And I don't know how much you have watched June play, but he isn't much better at shedding blocks from 320 lineman. Not many 225 lb LBs are. Yet he's all over the field in Tampa, just like he was in Indy.
Vilma get's swallowed up alot too. Probably why the Jets dumped him.
Aikman's gonna throw, deep slant. Caught, 35. HARPER'S BREAK'N AWAAAYYY! HARPER'S GOT MIDFIELD! HARPER'S GOT THE 40, HARPER'S GOT THE 30, HARPER'S GOT THE 20, HARPER'S GOT THE 10.......

As stated Cato June IS all over the field......something I don't see Roy doing consistantly, yeah If your small you better be fearless, athletic, and have a non stop motor; and that's not how Roy plays saftey.
As far as Jonathan Vilma goes, it had more to do with the emergence of David Harris, his injury, and the fact that he was asking for permission to seek a trade before the start of last season, than his inability to shed blocks. Let's Remember he was The 2004 Defensive Rookie of the year, then the 2005 NFL's leading tackler, followed by another stellar season in 2006 before last season's injury.
