We'll take a hit on the salary cap if he's released this season.  However I don't think he'll be here next season.  He's under the microscope now; moreso than he's been the past couple of years.  Either he changes his attitude and contributes positively or he's gone.

New season, new players, new result!

Bench him, he is THE liability of the D. He is ineffective and either too stupid or lazy to study the playbook and film to figure out where he's supposed to be. He's not a good teammate and a terrible leader. He has confessed his incompetence and tried to deflect blame to the CBs "for the big salaries they make" when he makes more than both of our CBs. He FEARS the QB throwing the ball in his direction but is too lazy to do anything about it. I am ashamed to call him a Cowboy, he is a coward and unfortunately once Jones gave him the big contract, he quit and we can't cut him or trade him unless they haven't read what he said. And his comment that he's tired of the fans because they're just there when times are good and he wants supporters is one of the most assinine statements I have ever heard an athlete make. If Adam Jones is activated, Williams will not see the field on passing downs which is the only solution for a bad player and a worse teammate. I, too, held out hope that Campo could help him, but after the comments he has made, he is done. Time to find out if Watkins or Brown can play.
You have very strong valid points coach... and thats why we rely so heavily on you. Right as usual!

T, relying on CouchCoach is more dangerous than a camera around Tony and Jessica. I respect Williams faith as a man but if it has had a negative effect of his play, then he should step up and return the prorated part of his signing bonus and hang it up. I would at least have respect for him as a man but deflecting blame to the corners and calling the fans out because they recognize a serious lack of effort and homework on his part is ridiculous. These fans he's upset about pay a hell of a lot of money for tickets, parking, concessions and bad wagers. We have a right to be annoyed when a player not only doesn't put in the necessary work but attempts to place the blame on his fellow players. And now I know exactly what those gestures were intended to do when he screwed up and shrugged his shoulders looking at another DB.

Roy needs to learn to tackle again!

Also... I was watching the inside the NFL on ESPN this morning on the power rankings going into this season, and Chriss Carter was all too correct about the Cowboys in the #5 spot... they don't belong there. He mentioned about a team that wants a Super Bowl shouldnt have a star QB starting his own controversy and accelerating it. He is the leader, and he creates his own tabloid fodder. Also, he pointed out about getting whupped At home by the Giants... and being embarresed the year before by the Seahawks... he was right, and you guys can be homers if you like... but nothing has changed on this team, TO is on TV and Romo is soaking up Chicago and singing badly. The next person I hear mention Championship, I am going to spit... as the guy was saying on ESPN, you need to win "a" playoff game first, and they have not done that, this being their 13th season since!

Point is, we havent done squat... and Jerry better watch out.... he may have a vette with a blown engine, but he keeps selling us a lemon!

Any team with a HC and QB that have never won a playoff game cannot be considered the front runner for the SB by the analysts. I still believe we will be there because of the talent on the team and a second year in the O and D. We had two new systems to learn and did a pretty good job. I think the D will take another step up and talent upgrades have been made. I believe we made upgrages in all three phases of the game. However, we have got to solve this "12 game season" problem we have and have had under four different HCs. The second season starts with the 13th game and is the impetus for the playoffs, we must be in our stride at that time. 13-4 is a great record, unless we're 1-3 in the last 4. Since 2000, we are 14-26 in Dec/Jan without a winning record in any year during those months. Until that changes, very few will pick us to return to the SB.
Great points again... I would much rather see us start 5-5 and have to play like our playoff lives depended on it than walk into the playoffs and be failures again. I would gladly give away 4 of those wins last year to have made it to the NFC Championship alone!
Amen to that T. It's gotten to the point where I don;t get excited about winning any games until we get into December. We could be 12-0 and I will holding my breath to see if we can break this habit. It is inexplicable when you consider that this late season meltdown started over 10 years ago with Gailey, Campo, Parcells and now Phillips and we can't seem to shake it. It's like one of those weird self fulfilling sports curses like the Bambino one for Boston and remember when we had the Curse of the Blue Jersey? There was something to it because teams changed their home unis to force us to wear blue..until we started winning. In the early 90's we could have won in pink Romo jerseys and have I railed about just how wrong a pink football jersey is and I don't care if she fills it out nicely, which she does, it's just so damn wrong. Of course, I think it would make the game more interesting to go back to leather helmets, no cups and no face masks so what do I know? Let 'em earn that money!

Sad but true!  On paper, this team should be the next 92 Cowboys team!  Heck, we had 13 players selected to the Pro Bowl. We are stacked at talent, yet we can not win one lousey playoff game?  That shall stop this year. If this continues, I think Jerry will put a call out to Jimmy Johnson and throw $6 million a year at him to bring back the glory.

Coach, all I saw was the information provided by Mr Big Mouth himself - Greg Ellis.  I did not realize Roy vocalized his feelings to the entire world.  Remember, I live in Mississippi so I do not get to here Irvin's talk show on the drive to work.  Good grief what kind of moron is this guy.  Well, my mind has changed.  I think we should cut him off the team, take the cap hit and get on with our team.  Keeping him on the team and playing him from time to time would be worse then finding a replacement, even if just a rookie.  At least a replacement will try his best which is a lot more than I can say for Roy.  What a disgrace to his team, his boss, the sport and to his family too.  Roy, what are you thinking????????????????????????

Yes, I don't think he would give up the control that Jimmy would demand and it would be a terrible loss of face for Jones to admit he's not a football guy after all. There aren't a lot of good high profile HCs that are going to let anyone control their destiny. That's why Jones and Carroll never even had a real conversation. And Cowher's name will re-emerge soon and he will be the same way. I give Jones credit for this being his best ever solo draft but it's just one and he has a lot of bad ones to overcome.

Webber, he was thinking selfishly about himself and trying to make excuses. I don't ever fault a player for his lack of God given skiils and likewise don't give any credit for it. But, when a player obviously (to me at least and I could be wrong) doesn't study the playbook or game films and catches himself in no man's land too many times frozen by the QB, that's just lazy and a lack of preparation. What strikes me as odd is the reaction by some that all of the sudden he's a bad cover safety when he has never been a good one. Fact is Woody was the D QB and let him roam at the front because he could cover for him and we have never come close to replacing Woody as a player or leader. In games already lost, he put forth more effort than most players do today. I was hoping he would stay on as our D back coach and ultimately move into a HC position. He knew where every player was supposed to be in every formation and those kinds of guys are not easy to find, we're still looking and Hamlin isn't Woody. One of the best Cowboys to ever put on that Star.

I am with you again Coach... my girl bought me a road Romo jersey for Christmas (the damn blue one) and I told her that she probably jinxed the team... and, lo and behold... we did not win another game since... I am burning that friggin thing before the start of the season... oh, and the Jersey too!

Re: How can the Cowboys make Roy Williams more effective on defense?

First off, let me say I am not nearly as low on Roy Williams as the media, and some of the fans are. I like bringing Campo back in, I think he is a good Secondary coach from what I can gather, god knows he couldn't be a head coach. That, and I think actually having a solid Secondary around him will help a lot. Roy is a SS, yes he is supposed to cover, but he is not a lockdown safety, that would be Hamlin's job. Hamlin did good last year, this year we will see if he is legit or just had a career year. Now, we have what looks to be a solid secondary, hopefully Jones gets to play, and Jenkins can learn at a good pace. With good corners, and a good SS, I think we will see the old Roy WIlliams. That, and he has slimmed down, hopefully that helps him, and hopefully it doesn't take away from his big hitting ability. I will say Roy certianly got lazy on tackles last year, he would try and arm tackle. That doesn't cut it in the NFL and Roy knows better. Roy has some work to do, but I think we would really miss him if he qas gone, there was a time when he was the best Safety in the NFL, talent doesn't just dissapear at his age. He still has it, he just needs to do what he does best, and regain some confidence. It doesn't help when the fans jump him for making mistakes.

I thought he slimmed down last year. And I thought he was going to be more effective last year as well. I don't know what to think this year. I'm hoping.

I think if they can some how get him to play near the line more, to stop the run, maybe rush the QB. Also if they can some how get him in more double coverage when in the passing game. I think that would go a long way in making him more effective on the defense.
