Another thing which has been mentioned about Roy is his tackling abilities. Did he just forget how to properly tackle (wrap up and drive downward)? It's pretty simple given you take the proper angle and get low and drive your weight (which he has a lot of). Or is he just going for the highlight reel for every tackle he makes. I mean he would make that reel a lot during his first few years, but now the only time he's on the reel is when he is blowing coverage or whiffing on tackles, and oh my "favorite" doing his suspending horse collar tackle. A big thing was made of Pat Watkins tackling ability and he's seemed to have improved. Why can't Roy? I wonder if he thinks he doesn't need to go back to the basics and re-touch his basic tackling abilities.

God spoke to him and told him to stop laying the wood.

"All right now, I'm comin' out. Any man I see out there, I'm gonna kill him. Any sumbitch takes a shot at me, I'm not only gonna kill him, but I'm gonna kill his wife. All his friends. Burn his damn house down."

He could use some tackling techique lessons from Newman, textbook he is and doesn't get enough credit for it. Williams became famous with his hits and they created "Jacked Up" for him until the league asked them to stop. The thing I noticed this year was how many times he bounced off the ball carrier because he was airborne at the time of the collision and the ball carrier was grounded. At one point, two years ago I thought he had injured himself and made excuses for him. He was not driving with his shoulder like he had in the past. The dumbest thing I saw last year was his horse collar and then acting surprised and upset at the flag. Fact is, he may be dumber than a bucket of hair and can't do the things we asume he can. He can certainly say some dumb things. Now that he's gone public with this stuff, we can look forward to a heavy dose of this throughout the season. Newman's up next year, Hamlin's on one year and Williams is trying to self-destruct..sure am glad we added three more DBs and wish we'd have added a Safety.

The question is flawed (no disrespect intended)... the Cowboys cannot make anyone more effective--they can put them in a position to succeed and they can point out what to and what not to do, i.e. coach him... but the bottom line is the man. If what Spagnola says is true; that his problem is the lack of game preparation then it doesn't matter what anyone outside of Roy himself does. A teacher can teach but if the student will not make the effort to do the homework and do the study he/she will fail the test. It is harsh but life is just that way...what God gave you (athleticism, talent, etc) must be added upon by the individual through work and study.

My guess is that safety will be among the top positions the Cowboys will be looking at next draft. Perhaps the safety position on the waiver wire will be dialed in (alert) to someones Blackberry.

Great opportunity to see if there is a guy on the team that wants to step-up. But I said that about the WR and CB positions last year and we saw that with the CB position no one did and the WRs only the two that had already stepped-up (TOwens and Witten) really did cover for the loss of a #2 WR in TGlenn.

Rocky, dead on. The first step is for him to realize it's his responsibility to get his game back. I applauded getting Campo and when he addressed the Roy issue in his first pc. I thought all right, we're on the right track. Now, I don't think so. Pride is the motivator for a lot of players and he has just as good as called Newman and Henry out with his comment. And I don't know if that was his intent but it sure comes off that way and the last thing this team needs is dissension in the ranks. Now, Ellis has spoken out and it takes another turn for the worst and Williams reacts to that. If the coaching staff isn't careful, this thing could take on a life of it's own because the media, local and national, just waits for dirt on the Cowboys. We are a contender and do not need any distractions from the goal and this sure looks like one getting legs and Jones hasn't even been activated yet. The fact that the coaching staff called Williams in to discusss his training regimen, because of Ellis' comments, means they are trying to stay on top of this. If I'm Jerry, I tell everyone of them to keep their mouths shut about their teammates. Any differences will be settled within the team and not the media.

I would like to see Roy have about 4 tackles a game, and those tackles be bone-jarring for opposing receivers and backs.

Im sure this has been said already but im gonna say it again. The Cowboys cannot make Roy more effective, only Roy can make Roy more effective. I hope he realizes this soon and does something to make himself better.

The coaches need to start holding him accountable for his mistakes.  Take him out on passing downs

    I love my dallas Cowboys!!!

They've done that. We don't have any Safeties that can replace him, which unto itself is ridiculous. Hopefully, the add'l CBs will allow them to take him out.

Lets see if Watkins is a faker or not... I'd love to see him have a breakout year. I know he is more of a FS, but if he can do his stuff then Hamlin can play SS at times. Still I am not writing offf Roy, but goodness he has been given and used every life-line. That new number just might be the trick.

Just a question but has ESPN or the NFL Network reported on any of Roy's comments?  I have been listening but have not heard.

Coach, you touched on Roy being called into the front office.  Was there any discipline laid down to Roy or do we know?  I just don't hear a lot where I live and I do not trust ESPN or NFL Network to spin the comments in a truthful and unbiased manner.

    Someone please let me know.

Apparently it was to "clear the air" here is the story as reported in the Dallas Morning News: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/football/cowboys/stories/051108dnspocowlede.3a26947.html
