I like Barber alot!  But I want to see more from a featured running back before I would commit any $$$ his way!

Barber is being ridiculous. I know he's a touchdown machine, but 60 million in the current market for his talents is overpriced. That type of dough is reserved for everydown back yardage and touchdown production. He should be ashamed listening to his agent like this. Sign the 30 million deal and get your butt on the field!

Hamlin, too! Players are lucky we love the game enough to tolerate their overindulgences. When you watch the NFL Network you don't hear guys being frequently interviewed to discuss their contracts! Nope! The'yre discussing their CHAMPIONSHIP memories!

"You play to win the game!" Thanks, Herm

Im not going to sit here and pretend to know what the diff is to be offered 30mill or 40mill... staggers me just thinking about it.

Im also not going to sit here and pretend I could care less about Jerry's money.. he has plenty, he's not going to skid row because of paying Barber.

Just get the deal done so it allows us to sign the guys we need to next season.. Im not sure we will be able to keep all of them anyway.

I dont know how so many people seem to know what is stopping both party's coming to a deal... is it just money?.. could it be contract length?.. could it be signing bonus?... who knows.. all I know is I want to see Barber play for the Boys.. if he feels he can get a better contract elsewhere, then so be it... just get on with it and get it sorted !

I think he will be worth it one day... Not right now...  The same concept is being used with MBIII as the organization took with ROMO.  The unfortunate part of this is MBIII may never get wha the is worth since RB's can be found every where on the cheap!  That is the hang up by him and his agent.  No team may give up LT and LJ type numbers unless a top 5 type pick...

As for Hamilin, the Raiders deal w/Wilson probably means Hamlin only has one more season with the Cowboys.  Just can't pay that price OR MORE for a FS.

The same approach is being taken by the Cowboys organization, But Barber is definitly taking a different approach than Romo did...This probably is'nt going to work out well for Barber espessially if Felix does well this year

Well if it was just Jerry's money we were talking about it would not be a big deal.  It all has to do with the cap room, and looking to the future of signing other players who's contracts are soon to be negotiated.  If Barber's agent demands the 60 mil we are hearing about, and we agree, it will seriously hinder us from being able to re-sign other big name players, such as Ware or Hamlin.   If there was no cap and it was just Jerry's money, I would say pay the man what he wants or lose him.  I just hope Barber shows just a little team loyalty and understanding.  I want him to remain a Cowboy !

Barber isn't worth any $60 million.  I'd give him $20 mil over 4 years.  I know we've offered 30 mil, and they scoffed at it.  Barber is not a Franchise Running Back people.  Get real.

i thought wut we offered him was high and he said no to that. i like the wut he brings but theres a price tag on that. if we worked with julius as the premier back all those yrs then im sure we'll find a way to get around paying barber

Assuming we have 3 backs and a full back on our roster, I don't think (as it stands now) they are worth $60 million as a package.

NO,not even within the craziness of supply and demand that the NFL works around.

I think the acquisition of Felix Jones and Tashard Choice were essentially leverage picks to keep MBIII's contract from going through the roof.  I honestly think that marion barber may play harder than anyone in the league and would deserve that kind of money, but JJ is very savvy and knows with two potential options, he can have the possibility to lock up a talented hard worker for 10 Mil less than he is worth.  He's worth 40 Million and basically no one is an everydown back anymore.  You'd be stupid to run a guy every down and wear him down to nothing by the time you really need him in the 4th.

i hope your not under the assumption that Felix can/will be a premiere back......if MBIII goes to greener pastures, we'd better hope CHOICE is going to be able to fill his role, Felix is solely (any RB.....put in the name) compliment.

These are Running Backs better than Barber.... Barbers aint nuthin and you can get Running back at anytime

    1. Ladanian Tomlinson

    2. Adrian Peterson

    3. Steven Jackson

    4. Larry Johnson (he had 1 bad year he's all KC's got of course he's going to have a bad year everyones after him)

    5. Fred Taylor

    6. Willie Parker

    7. Ronnie Brown

    8. Chester Taylor

    9. Brian Westbrook

    10. Deuce Mcallister

    11. Maurice Jones Drew

    12. Marshawn Lynch

There might be a few rookies that come out that I think will outshine Barber.

Ah, how the times have changed.  I got reamed making a list very similar to this one not too long ago.  Now, no one is even arguing w/ it.  I pretty much agree w/ your list, Swade, and would add Frank Gore, Clinton Portis(maybe), Willis McGahee, and maybe Michael Turner, who is highly regarded but also unproven.  Also, a healthy Rudi Johnson is a Barber clone, as is Brandon Jacobs.

Also, consider this.  If LT were given a 1-3 tender, I'm willing to bet someone would have given up the 1st and 3rd for him.  I heard of absolutely no interest from any team for Barber.

Ryan Grant is also at least as good, and there are several rooks coming in who could be as good or better.

MBIII has nearly ruined his image in BigD, and would have to hurry and sign/show up to even partially rectify the situation.  Funny how the wrong agent can really hurt you, and I think Rosy has really done MBIII a big disservice this time.

OK, Ellis is a bit above average.

As much as I enjoy watching The Barbarian run over people and smack some players around with his bruising style I also agree that he isn't worth the money that his agent is asking. He is however worth at this point possibly around 25 to 35 million based on his performance but he needs to show that he can handle the load of being an every down back or a featured back in a two back offence.
