Do the Cowboys have enough depth at receiver for 2008?
The Cowboys looked into potentially acquiring an unnamed veteran receiver before the draft, but no trade materialized. Unless a move is made this summer, the Cowboys will enter the season with the same cast of wideouts: Terrell Owens; Patrick Crayton; young Miles Austin, Sam Hurd and Isaiah Stanback; and possibly Terry Glenn, depending on how his knee responds.
Should the Cowboys have drafted another receiver? Do the Cowboys have enough depth even if Glenn is ready to go?

Jerry made the right play, looking to trade for a vet WR. Next offseason, the number one priority should be signing the best WR in FA. Hopefully, Roy Williams.
Aikman's gonna throw, deep slant. Caught, 35. HARPER'S BREAK'N AWAAAYYY! HARPER'S GOT MIDFIELD! HARPER'S GOT THE 40, HARPER'S GOT THE 30, HARPER'S GOT THE 20, HARPER'S GOT THE 10.......

Re: Do the Cowboys have enough depth at receiver for 2008?
The boys should be good at receiver this year, barring any major injuries. However next year the issue will have to be addressed and My opinion is that is should come from the draft with a additional FA pick up to fill the voids.

Re: Do the Cowboys have enough depth at receiver for 2008?
The WR position has plent of depth the problem is where each one is in their respective development stages. If TGlenn cannot go in 2008 we will certainly have a void at the #2 position. Crayton did a good job filling in last year but he is not a #2 in this league, not his fault, just fact. Hopefully Stanback or Hurd will step.
As far as the overall passing game let's not forget we have an all world TE.

Thank you for finally posting this topic... you rock!
Look, I do not want to hear anyone say that we are set at this position... we are not. We have a lot of maybes and possibly goods... but we only have one go to guy. If the masses of fans out there are so high on Patrick... draft him as your #1 fantasy players and see how fast you stock up the checks in the loss column.
We have a crowded reciever corps with alot of trash. We need to take out the trash and stockpile at least one more solid threat... and, anyone other than Crayton would be an upgrade. Glenn, in his prime was a solid top notch #2... problem is, he is not in his prime. Owens will be solid for the rest of his time in the NFL, so we need his compliment... and we need someone to take some double and triple coverage calls off him and Witten... then, imagine this team. Just apease me... give me one solid proven #2... like I said, anyone other than Crayton, and I am happy. Does he have some good games? Sure... but his inconsistant play is what has to go.... and I don't want to hear that he is still in developement... he has been around for 4 years. He will never be anything more than a third, and we can't gamble this year and think that he can fill in at #2... because he has shown that he can't.
And this is not stemming from his playoff play... I was saying that he bites goats nuts when they signed him to an extension.

I am anyone. We are set at this position. T.O, Crayton, Stanback, and Glenn? Most teams dont even have a decent number 1. We have two. I'd say thats a leg up for sure. I know, its awfully lonely up here on my high horse!

Re: Do the Cowboys have enough depth at receiver for 2008?
Terry Glenn has gotten through exactly one entire season healthy. His history of fragility is there for all to see. Now compound that with him missing the entire last season with an injury that he never had properly repaired, along with the fact that he is now 34, and I think anybody who is counting on him this season is crazy. Even under the best of conditions you really couldn't count him for the season, and those best of conditions have been over for a long time. I really hope one of the other recievers step up, because we are going to need them.

Re: Do the Cowboys have enough depth at receiver for 2008?
Of cousre they should have. I'll never understand the reasoning that we traded a good backup tight end to end up with a backup tight end. And you can't honestly believe that Glenn is going to make it through the season healthy if at all. + isn't now the time to start grooming the right young reciever while Owens is still in his prime. Also I know that rather than doing thier job all the so called scouts went to the combine (instead of actually going to the games and watching the kids) and said no one had a good combine so it must be a weak draft class. (that's crap) Sweed, Kelly, Jackson, Manningham. All will be number one options some day. But hey who am I to tell them how to do thier job i'm just a lowley fan of 28 years who's never missed a single Cowboys snap.

Re: Do the Cowboys have enough depth at receiver for 2008?
I really don't understand all the concerns over our receivers. With our new addition at TE and who we have in place regardless if Glenn can play or not, we are not as bad as everyone is assuming we are. Crayton and Hurd both have shown they can give us good playing time, Witten and TO are set, Glenn will play. Receivers are not a big concern, that is of course Romo gets past the Jessica jinx, if it even truly exist.
I'm more concerned about our defensive secondary and our running back tandum than I am with the receivers. Are we going to secure the Pac Man, will Roy show up this year, can our new rookie Mike Jenkins be a contributor. Will Marion prove to be the one, will Felix Jones be able to back up the Barbarrian and who is this Tashard Choice, is he the 3rd back.
No, not concerned with the receivers, but I have my concerns about much

This is certainly a good question. If they could have gone out and signed a vet receiver--and had everything work--money, skill, etc...no doubt they would have, but apparently it did not work out. I still think it is an issue going into this next season, however, we must be realistic and see what the guys that did not step-up last year will do with another year and knowing what may be a great opportunity for them. ---hope Glenn is able to come back...

I think we DO have the depth. It's just a question of which young gun is going to step up and be a playmaker for us.

Re: Do the Cowboys have enough depth at receiver for 2008?
Well Obviously anyone who actually watches college football knows that Obviously there were alot of good recievers big and fast in the draft this year. but Obviously did not do well at the combine. So Obviously the scouts and the Cowboys Obviously did not do thier job and avoided a reciever. Again. Here is a question. do you think that Crayton, Hurd or Stanback are better recievers than Malcom kelly, Mario Manningham, Desean Jackson, Limas sweed? THE ANSWER WOULD BE NO! All of which have a much better potential for a number 2 than any of are backups now. Also anyone who thinks the organization completley knows what their doing ask your self how did all of the draft picks work out prior to The Roy Williams draft. Oh and by the way most of the pro bowlers since are because of Parcells. Say what you want THE MAN CAN DRAFT.
