CouchCoach:WOW, I go lay my head on my Pooh pillow to catch a few sugar plums and SB rings, and you guys are at each other. All of this over a #3 WR that is signed to a long team deal and isn't going anywhere. Wasting space to argue over what should've been done, tch, tch. He is ours and we must make the best of it. Glenn is 50/50 and we must make the best of it. Evidently, our coaching and scouting staff didn't see the need to draft a WR and our WR Coach, one of the very best in the game, has publicly supported Stanback. I have followed Ray Sherman's career and the man doesn't just throw out compliments. One of these vet WRs will cost at least a #! and #2 and will hit the cap at 9-10M. Does this last sentence have any impact on thiose that keep posting we need to go get one of them? We have some serious decisions to make with 6 players THAT WE KNOW THE VALUE OF ON OUR TEAM! This is a team ready to take the next step and some want to bring in Chad Johnson to disrupt it? Boldin and Williams want more money. If we get either, then TO must go. Does anyone on this forum want that? We have more than enough weapons to take the next step and that's all that matters. Does is matter that we were the #2 O and #4 passing attack with this core of receivers?
And when you say this corps of recievers... your major emphasis is placed on TO and Witten... and if one of them goes down again, throw all stats away! I am willing to bet that one of them goes out for a few games this year... and with Glenn at 50/50... count him out.
No one said we had to sell the farm to pick up Johnson... and no where was it mentioned about drafting a reciever.
But, you are entiteld to your opinion... and when we have our buts handed to us once more this year... maybe then people might stop trying to play the blind loyalists...
But you guys just keep following the teachings of Mickey!
T, I don't follow his teachings and can't to listen to him. If any of our key players go down, throw all the stats away. Just like I said in the previous post, we have no depth at any position, especially the most critical one. It's not blind loyalty, it's opening your eyes to see we've just got so much money to spend and we've got players that have earned the right to remain Cowboys, if we can afford them.
I know coach... but without depth and talent... Money does not mean anything... nor does the future... our future slipped away last season... we were primed, but could not pull the trigger... I have a small hunch, this year is our last in the window... we have too many contracts to oblige this season, and something is going to give... I say Tnew and Barber (if he continues his issues) Nice knowing both of you. Now, if they are willing to accept less money... then heck, welcome back... but to me it seems Barber thinks he is Barry Sanders or something.
Ware is a must and so is Owens... Ware is a quiet leader, taking over for the somehow absent Roy Williams, whom likes his highlight reels a little too much.
Yes, it is a sticky situation here, but, oh well... we havent won anything in 12 years and I guess I should be use to disapointment.
I usually approach our seasons with guarded pessimism with our recent past. But T, I think we've got more than one shot at the title and I'm not an optimist by nature. I don't think any of our key players are retiring, except maybe Glenn and he wasn't key last year, so we have a chance to keep the nucleus together. We will lose a couple and I think the drafting of two RBs and CBs isn't a coincidence but very good planning. If Barber signs his tender and we don't extend him, look for Choice to get more work to see if he can fulfill that role. I hear a lot more positives about Tashard coming in than I did Barber and he's an excellent receiving back. Adam Jones and our two rookie CBS will get plenty of work to see if we can let Newman walk. Those two would save us about 13-14M a year. Unless one of our many backup O linemen steps up, we will have to re-sign Columbo just as we had to with Adams. Maybe a year under the tutelege of Hudson "Howdy" Houck and we'll have something. When he was with us, during the glory years, he was really good at bringing young O linemen along. All of these situations we are in with FAs is because of mediocre drafting in the past. Our young players need to be able to step in and allow us to let some older overpaid players seek their fortunes elsewhere. Got to say, with "Howdy" and Camps as coaches, I feel a whole lot better about our chances with these youngsters. Now if Maxie could just bring Brown or Watkins along.
It is more comforting to see coaches that are trainers and can "coach" rather than just gameplan because players develop --not just be placed in the right situation in a game. We will see...
As a fan of the Cowboys and as a trainer by profession, I do not believe that the Cowboys "... future slipped away last season..." the season did, but that was the present. If the lessons were learned last year, then the future is brighter and better than ever.

I haven't been this positive about a season, at this point, in a very long time. Which, of course, means we will go 5-11 with Romo, TO and Ware on IR. Couldn't agree more on the teaching aspect with the coaches. We watch these games and see the obvious, he should have been here or there or why didn't he see that guy and forget sometimes the speed of the game these guys are playing at. All of the game planning in the world will not replace training, teaching and preparing these players for the game. I remember watching games before instant replay (wife had to hand crank the tv and nachos weren't invented yet) and being far less critical than I am today. I'm glad no one is taping the mistakes I make and playing them back in slo mo for the world to see. Of course, with a wife, you don't need instant replay. They remember every one of them and can recite them in chronological and/or level of stupidity order. How can a woman, that can't remember where she just put her car keys, recall something stupid I did 20 years ago?

Rocky, that is especially tough when your anniversary is in the off season. There's no frame of reference to the schedule. We need to find out players that have anniversaries at least close to ours and have a reference or get the player's jersey that matches the date. For instance, mine is coming up this Saturday, May 24. I will get Barber's jersey (now that I know he's staying) and that will narrow the day of the month down. It's off season, so that eliimates 8-2 (I am assuming here a further advance in the playoffs), that leaves 3-7. He signed for 45M so that narrows it down to two months, 4 or 5. April 24 has come and gone and I don't have a fork sticking out of my throat, so it's 5-24. See, crisis averted. Guys, is there a problem pro football cannot solve?

Damn, I knew it. Did you notice they waited to get the deals until I posted that absurd nonsense about drafting RBs and CBs to let them walk?
They are plottin against ya coach keep an eye on your dots Hey Coach, can you please predict Terry Glenn getting a set-back early on and T.O. dropping all sorts of passes, and Crayton's mouth going off non-stop and Tony Romo being a diva, so that the opposite happens?!

Avg 13.9 (WOW !! Almost as good as Burress & better than both Toomer & Shockey !!)
Lng 59 (Same as above !!)
TD 7 (Hmmmmmmm !! Better than Toomer & Shockey !!!)
Jason Witten (Starter) = Rec 96 (Better than all the GMen Stars !!)

Avg 11.9 (Better than Shockey !!)
Lng 53 (Better than Toomer & Shockey !!)
TD 7 (Again better than 2 of the 3 GMen Super Stars !!)
So lets put this nonsense to rest that we are in trouble and in such desperate need of WR's ! We have plenty of them and they possess plenty of talent ! When used properly in conjunction with out new RB core we will be more then fine !!
You are kidding with this crap, right? Her is a stat for you to chew on...!
Hey genious... if manning would have thrown for a thousend more yards... then your crap listed above would have made sense... but he didnt... and Crayton is no where near capable... nor could he hold Toomers Jock... nor Shockey for that matter.
Why didnt you give us New England Stats... seems to me they had 2 recievers over 1000 yards and a third at 600... so, come talk to the rest of us when you can come up with a stat that is equal and unbiased... and while your at it, draft Crayton as your #1 in your fantasy league this year and let me know how it works for you!
You are such a disrespectful little lady ! If Manning did this and if Manning did that yada, yada, yada !!!! The point I was trying to make was our WR's are just as competent as any others. Why don't you just grow up and stop arguing a dead point. You've already stated quite clearly that you hate Patrick Crayton and I respect your opinion. However you will stop the insults and and obnoxiousness ASAP or the powers that be will make sure you stop the nonsense !! The reply wasn't even to you and it wasn't a comparison of the whole league !!
75 You are not going to get through to "T"
I once posted EVERY number 2 Wideout in the GAME on this site to PROVE the point that those who were down on Crayton were simply full of it. The guy has a bad game. You cannot have those in the playoffs. Lets hope he does not again. But bottom line is the guy can play
Oh... now you try to threaten with the powers that be... even though I made no derogatory remark about you, then you proceed to call me someone of the oposite Gender... are you serious?
Secondly, if you are going to provide stats... then be prepared to be called out on them! Don't just put the ones that suit your needs and then to hell with reality. Give the readers the whole truth... no more of this half truth stuff.
Point is, Crayton is a capable third... but do you think it is worth the risk to be without Glenn and have Pat the #2 guy again? I think not.
Hurd might be better than Crayton... and if he was throttled into the #2 roll, I am willing to bet he ends with more than 693 yards! Look at his reception to yards ratio... it is better than Pats.
And, did anyone read the article about Pat crying about his dropped pass in the playoff game and saying that people are being fairweather to say that he chokes... I don't recall bashing him for his poor performance in the playoff game... I just think, all in all, he is really not that good.
Look at Welker in Miami... then he moves to NE and goes for 1100 yards, as a third string to beat all. So, does NE have a better set of recievers than we do? Yes.... and what did NE do after failing in the playoffs and haveing a bad year by their standards? They went out and got guys for Brady... because they know he is a stud QB... Is Romo not worth the investment to let him Break the TD record for the league? I think he is, and instead of gambling that Glenn is going to be healthy at 34 and opting out of a surgery that is absolutely nescesary... we should put quality players in for Romo. We are paying him the Farm for a reason, lets make it pay off.
Another thing I noticed in the Crayton article was this... "I think criticism is going to come with the game," said Crayton, who replaced Terry Glenn as the No. 2 receiver and finished the year with 50 catches for 697 yards and seven touchdowns - all career highs. "I love it because it really lets you know what some people think about you. If there were people that were really fans throughout the whole season, and I drop a pass and all of a sudden I'm their worst enemy, then you know they're just fair-weather fans. I just take that as motivation. It really just opened my eyes that this thing really is a business." ... That sounds like a cop out and guy is nothing more than a #3 and should shut up and put up... not because of the playoff... but his inconsistency all around. Like I previously stated, look at his #s...
