    Forgotten Cowboys you loved

Sorry, after that last thread I blindly started I needed something to make myself feel better.  I'm sure this has been covered before also, but I wanted to take some time to remember some ex-Cowboys I became a big fan of even though they weren't exactly the all-pros or superstars and will never be in the Hall of Fame.

Tommie Agee #34 -- I really liked this guy.  He was overshadowed by playing the same position as Daryl Johnston, but Agee was pretty good at catching passes out of the backfield and blocking for Emmitt.  He wound up with 2 rings.  Hard to believe he was a Plan B free agent (you're getting old if you know what that means)

Tony Tolbert #92 -- okay, I'm biased because I went to college with him at UTEP.  I remember Tony "Too Small" Tolbert impressing people right away even though he was on a terrible Cowboys team.  He went on to become a really great pass rusher and earn 3 rings.

Preston Pearson #26 -- this guy seemed to always play on good teams no matter where he went.  I really liked him too.  When I was little I used to wonder if he and Drew were brothers.

George Teague #31 -- the defender of the STAR!  I think he deserved a medal for hitting that annoying 49ers WR at midfield.  He was flagged, but maybe the stupid refs should have flagged that WR the first time ran to midfield to celebrate... then they would have avoided the whole fiasco with Emmitt copying then the last one that ended in the hit.

Issiac Holt #30 -- part of the Herschel Walker trade.  I don't know if anyone remembers this, but in 1990 the Cowboys were falling to the Bucs.  Vinny Testaverde backed up and threw a pass to the flat that was intercepted and returned for a TD by Holt.  I say this play was the one that inspired the entire emergence of the Cowboys in the early 90s.  It seemed like that was the spark that ignited the dynasty and they played like they BELIEVED they could win from then on.

Tony Hill #80 -- not really an obscure player, but often overshadowed by Drew Pearson and Butch Johnson.  Hill caught many great passes including one in that huge comeback against the Redskins at RFK in the 80s.

Michael Downs #26 -- I remember when he and Walls were rookies together.  Downs never got to play on one of the Super Bowl teams, but was a reason the Cowboys were a good team in the early to mid-80s.

Okay... feeling much better now... I can probably stay on this one all day.

Yeah, I remember Preston Pearson he came from the hated Steelers, I met him last year, he is such a nice guy he even let me try on his SB ring. The guys I really liked from the 90s SB Cowboys were Vinson Smith and Dixon Edwards they got little pub. but they did their job week in week out. My ultimate underdog guy was Larry Brown, he went from 12th round pick to starting on all 3 SB teams and getting the MVP of SB 30.

Great !  This one will be alot easier.  The ones I will list are not forgotten in my opinion, though.  These are my childhood heroes.

    Robert Newhouse !!l....Powerhouse

Walt Garrison.....wanted a new pickup for his signing bonus, and got it.

Billy Joe Dupree........great hands and control

    Tony Hill.....perfect compliment to Drew

Hollywood Henderson.....before I knew he was a coke head, at least he beat it.

Harvey Martin.......was deathly afraid of chickens when he was little boy.

Cliff and Charlie........Climbed in the stands after an eagles (i think) game and whooped up on some hecklers.  Classic!!!  Man what would Goodell do about that today ?

Now I could go on and on about....Staubach, Dorsett, Randy White, but wanted to stick to some of the somewhat lesser known names that I loved.

Funny, I remember John Madden always carrying on about "Bully" Bill Bates and his special team play that the NFL started having a special teams player selected for the Pro bowl.

Yup all those names bring back good memories, but my favorite player at the time was "Hollywood" to me he was the first of the "modern" athlete - a LB that could run as fast as some backs, I loved watching him on the reverse on the kick off.

I was thinking of some of the lesser knowns, but it is great to remember Bill Bates, Harvey Martin (God rest his soul), Cliff Harris and Charlie Waters.

I had included Issiac Holt on my list and suddenly I remembered play that I hadn't thought about in a long time.  Maybe one of you out there remembers this:

Kelvin Martin received a punt from the Eagles around 1991 or 1992, then completely outmanuevered the entire Eagles punting team and broke free in the open field.  Martin ran right by Issiac Holt as one Eagles player (whose name totally escapes me) tried to run him down.  Holt lowered his shoulder and blasted this Eagles guy into another time zone!  It was a great hit, but some non-Cowboys fans called it a cheapshot.

Anyone remember who that Eagles player was?

Oh, I did forget to mention Jimmie Jones.  He was kind of forgotten on the Miami Hurricanes' defensive line too -- which is understandable when you stop to think the other 3 guys on that line were Jerome Brown, Russell Maryland and Cortez Kennedy.  I mostly remember Jimmie Jones getting that touchdown in the Super Bowl.

I also kind of liked Kenny Gant.  Anyone else remember "The Shark"?

The guy who Issiac Holt blocked wasn't Jeff Feagles, I remember that much.  For a long time I thought it was Andre Waters, but I don't think it could have been him.

in recent years I truely miss good ole Billy Bates and the brick layers son Dexter Coackley. I sure wish he was able to fit into parcells defense. He and Dat ruled the middle.
