Sorry, after that last thread I blindly started I needed something to make myself feel better. I'm sure this has been covered before also, but I wanted to take some time to remember some ex-Cowboys I became a big fan of even though they weren't exactly the all-pros or superstars and will never be in the Hall of Fame.
Tommie Agee #34 -- I really liked this guy. He was overshadowed by playing the same position as Daryl Johnston, but Agee was pretty good at catching passes out of the backfield and blocking for Emmitt. He wound up with 2 rings. Hard to believe he was a Plan B free agent (you're getting old if you know what that means)
Tony Tolbert #92 -- okay, I'm biased because I went to college with him at UTEP. I remember Tony "Too Small" Tolbert impressing people right away even though he was on a terrible Cowboys team. He went on to become a really great pass rusher and earn 3 rings.
Preston Pearson #26 -- this guy seemed to always play on good teams no matter where he went. I really liked him too. When I was little I used to wonder if he and Drew were brothers.
George Teague #31 -- the defender of the STAR! I think he deserved a medal for hitting that annoying 49ers WR at midfield. He was flagged, but maybe the stupid refs should have flagged that WR the first time ran to midfield to celebrate... then they would have avoided the whole fiasco with Emmitt copying then the last one that ended in the hit.
Issiac Holt #30 -- part of the Herschel Walker trade. I don't know if anyone remembers this, but in 1990 the Cowboys were falling to the Bucs. Vinny Testaverde backed up and threw a pass to the flat that was intercepted and returned for a TD by Holt. I say this play was the one that inspired the entire emergence of the Cowboys in the early 90s. It seemed like that was the spark that ignited the dynasty and they played like they BELIEVED they could win from then on.
Tony Hill #80 -- not really an obscure player, but often overshadowed by Drew Pearson and Butch Johnson. Hill caught many great passes including one in that huge comeback against the Redskins at RFK in the 80s.
Michael Downs #26 -- I remember when he and Walls were rookies together. Downs never got to play on one of the Super Bowl teams, but was a reason the Cowboys were a good team in the early to mid-80s.
Okay... feeling much better now... I can probably stay on this one all day.
