New Deals For Newman and Barber:

The Cowboys' top cornerback and running back aren't going anywhere. Terence Newman and Marion Barber both signed lucrative long-term deals just before the league deadline to sign players under the current collective bargaining agreement.

How important was re-signing these two players? Are the contract terms what you expected? Which player needs to be re-signed next?

Compared to the Nate Clements and Marcus Trufant and other recent CB contracts, it appears that Newman comes as a relative bargain.

Barber's contract makes me a little nervous.  However, with contracts escallating at the rate that they have been, he will probably be a bargain in three or four years.  Of course, maybe he'll hold out to get a new deal if that happens... hopefully not, though.

I just hope that these deals don't make it difficult to sign Ware when he's up.

This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine!

I believe under the circumstances of the CBA that it was important to lock them up for a longer term and spread the money commitment. The terms are outrageous, but in-line with the going -rate. The next most important player is Ware, but that can wait a bit. TOwens' contract should be discussed and terms met, but since it most likely it will not be longer than 5-years they have some time.

I am very pleased that we got these two great players signed. Now, we need to sign TO and DeMarcus Ware to long term deals. We'll be set then.

I understand TNew, he is a proven player.  MBIII I question why we paid him an average of $6 million +.  He is not an every down player, he has to have help, a change of pace guy.  MBIII is not worth this kind of money, just my opinion of course.

If I were TO I would want a $100 million deal over 5 years.  I guarantee you he has earned it!

What a great day for us fans of the Dallas Cowboys. Great job J.Jones! Now we can focuse on signing TO, D-Ware. I can"t wait for the season to start. I see great things happening this year and I expect we go deep in the play-off and get to our 9th SUPER BOWL!!!!

Two good players, draft picks and pro bowlers. We can't have too many of those. Hamlin, right now we have one Safety we can count on. Then Canty. Then TO. Might need to wait on Columbo and see what Houck can do with the youngsters and try and do Ware's contract now before he has another improved season and there's no reason to believe he won't. gp, saw your help on the avatar, looks just like me. I can only wish it were mine.
The road to the Superbowl is full of potholes, speed traps and road rage.

I would like to have taken a better look at him this season as a starter to see before i paid him but he looked great against the giants in his start, but he also looked gassed in the second half...but if you have a good relief like Felix or Choice instead of a julius "tackled by a blade of grass"jones then who knows how the running attack would have been that game...but i cant wait to find out.

This was some of the best news I received all day. Newman and Barber getting their contracts will take some of the pressure that the uncertainty of not having MB3 sign his tender off of the team and the fans. I think we should focus on getting Hamlin, Ware, T.O., and Canty signed. They are key players on offense and defense whose contracts should be extended before the end of this season.

Jerry is a shrewd businessman and he has made the Cowboy nation extremly happy.

I agree with the Ware deal...needs to be asap...with our new and approved secondary our D-line will be eating qbs by the quarter and Ware is gonna be in heaven...at the end of the year he is gonna want more money than what we could sign him for now..
