Re: New Deals For Newman and Barber:
Nice that they could restructure those contracts but it did give more up front bonus money to Romo and Davis, so it's not a Mother Teresa act. It's also good to see TO is not focused on his contract but reading between the lines, Jerry is and should get something done before the end of the season. Not good news on the stalemate with Hamlin. He should get as much as he can, playing on a 1 year as he did, but we have a high number of key players making a lot of dough and may not be able to swing it. It is a little questionable that we will have him on the team but I can't see a player walking on 4.5M for one season and sitting out. The most questionable area on our team, in my mind, is at that Safety position and we need to shore it up or we're going to see our corners playing off again this season. We must increase the pressure on the QBs this season or there was no reason to hire Phillips. He has not delivered as promised in that area and if we play our corners off again this year, mainly because they're concerned about safety help, our D will be the same as last year. Time's up guys, it's time for him to deliver and get his butt off that 0-4 playoff record and stop making excuses. I am less in favor of his hiring today than I was the day we hired him and have really grown tired of his defense of his regular season record. Enough foreplay Wade, make us sassified!

gp_cowpolk:Way to go Romo and Jerry. When will we win our 1st playoff game? Been kinda like kissing ur sister the last couple of post seasons . Bring on the pole dancers!!!
Ah, back to that are we? We haven't heard much about "he who is suspended" since we posted 90 pages on him before we had him. I found one of Jones' comments in the piece today really interesting. When asked about Glenn, he was pretty non-commital and seems to be still working on a vet WR while hoping we have him back. I think the chances of him playing all season are very slim.

I hope Glenn plays but Jerry needs to keep working on getting a veteran just for insurance.

Sounds like that is exactly what he's doing but he hasn't commented on that since the "we tried to trade for a vet" comment before the draft. Boldin looks like he's going to holdout, so they may have no choice but to trade him. I would look for Crayton to be in that trade along with pick(s). I still don't see how we pay for a 9M a year guy with our other players up or on 1 year deals.

ALBT'D-Boys:For now, and I believe because of his high resilency, T.O. will be Romo's strong right arm at wideout for many more years to come given we keep "I love me some Me" by making sure he retires a Cowboy with a well deserved "We love you someYou" T.O.
TO's work ethic, that learned from Rice, will keep him playing as long as Rice did. Same kind of player mentality. The one thing we do not know is that once TO gets a ring, will he have Rice's drive to turn it up a notch to get another.

Re: New Deals For Newman and Barber:
I think it is very good to have these two signed for long term deals. With the signing of MB3, the drafting of Jones really does make sense and we dont have to worry about getting that tough runner. Also, T New deserved his money. (Remember, I dont know if anyone is worth that money due to the economy and gas prices, but thats another topic). He know needs to be the shut down corner that the money says he his. I just hope he does not become complacent. I am really happy about the MB3 deal because I was worried about it affecting the season, He is going to have a great year.
I love you Taylar and Teaghan!!!!! My two beautiful little Cowboy fans.

I agree with your comment about TO's work ethic, but I think he is better physically than Rice was at the same stage of his career. I maybe not better but built differently. Rice was more gazelle and TO more muscle -- maybe antelope... we will see if TO has 7 more years in him or 4 productive years (if you compare Rices stats to age) ...and I think TO should have that in him... it would be nice to see him remain a weapon for this offense--productive and retire a Cowboy--for his "legacy: and for the good of the Cowboys.

Wes:
It great that they got The Barbarian, and T-New locked down. Newman signing this contract will pretty much lock him down with the Boys for the rest of his career. Marion may get another contract but he will more than likely finish his career as a Cowboy!!
Now Jerry needs to get TO locked down. Followed by Canty, and then start looking toward next year and getting D Ware locked up!!
With the owners opting out of the CBA, it will be to the players best interest to get the best deal they can get right now, especially if they have fewer than 6 years in the league. In my opinion you have the right guys listed but in the wrong order. Just my opinion.......
- Hamlin - immediate need
- Canty - < 6 years/needs to go ahead and renew
- T.O. - We have time throughout the season, contract expires this year/vet - 6+ years/can clean up with Cowboys in a renewal
- Ware - We have time throughout the season /< 6 yrs/benefits him to get contract done sooner rather than later/CBA cap free year doesn't benefit him
Tell me what you all think
That's the order I would go in and we'll just have to take our chances with Columbo. We can't sign everybody and Parcells will pay him good dough. With TO, I don't know if I would wait if we can fit it in. I want his head totally focused on the ring and not his contract. We've seen what happens when he's not all in. Of course, he hasn't had a relationship with an owner like he does here so it could be a non-problem. But we need to get Hamlin done and get him situated in that leadership role. He'll get a lot more followers with a contract longer than a year.
Coach, that is what I was thinking also. He provides the leadership that we need in the secondary and he does a great job at getting everyone in the right position. I was looking at the dallasmorningnews and they were saying that the signings allows us to maintain our strengths for years to come and that combined with our off season and draft additions allows us to play more man which will increase our number of different blitz schemes. I can't wait..........

I have been going crazy trying to figure out who we can pick up as a veteran WR, with speed, that will be a complement to T.O. and the offense. I came up with two, but one will probably be suspended soon. Throw some ideas out there.
- Koren Robinson - Fast but not Terry Glenn Fast.
- Chris Henry - He is quick, but is he as fast as Ocho Cinco? He will probably be suspended soon.

The best part is the mention of playing man or bump-n-run coverage. Sounds like Wade has shifted his thinking, don't really know what he was thinking just saying. We should be able to increase our QB pressure significantly. How many times did you see Ware almost get there last year? Give him that extra .5 second with good man coverage, and he should be between 16-20 this year, not to mention just the pressure he brings.
