Again - please find out about the rules - that hand ball you keep talking about was an unintentional hand ball - thats why the Ref. did not call it. I like your selective memory - what about when the german goalie came way out and hit it with his arm at the edge of the penalty area - the announcers even said that he looked like he was out of the area. Com'on take it like a man, they lost. BTW - Everyone knows that Brazil is the best overall in the history of the game, also a couple of other teams have a rich history of soccer - Italy and Argentina. Oh and BTW I'm watching Fox Soccer Report and everyone seems to be blaming Lamn the defender for pulling up.

    1. Unintentional handball? Cool, I guess all unintentional fouls should never be called. A handball in the box that breaks up a would-be shot-on-goal should be a penalty 100 out of 100 times. Period.

    2. Lehmann was right on the line of the box. He could have been in, he could have been out. Much closer than the Spanish handball ever was. Maybe the ref decided that Lehmann "unintentionally" left the box, haha. Silliness.

    3. His name is Lahm. He did pull up, as Jens Lehmann was about to collide with them. He absolutely would not have pulled up if Lehmann had stayed back, and that would have almost certainly led to no goal. No matter how you look at it, it was a bonehead play by Germany, not a flash of brilliance by Spain. But that is what happens sometimes. You hand the other team a victory.

    4. Yes, I do know about Brazil. Hence "one or two other countries" like I said:

    - Brazil has 5 World Cups (total of 7 finals apperances).

    - Germany has won the World Cup three times, behind only Brazil (five titles) and Italy (four titles). It has finished as runners-up four times, two more than any other country. In terms of semifinal appearances, Germany leads with 11, one more than Brazil's 10, which had participated in two more tournaments than Germany. In the last 14 World Cup tournaments, Germany has always reached at least the stage of the last eight teams. Germany has also qualified for every of the 16 World Cups it has entered. They also have 3 third place finishes. Germany has also won the Euros three times (best of any country), and finished as runners-up three times as well. The Germans have qualified for every European Championship tournament except for the very first EC they entered in 1968.

    - Italy has 4 World Cups, and they have been the runner-up twice, and third and fourth place once each. They have one Euro championship, plus one runner-up finish. They did, however, fail to qualify for an amazing 6 of the 13 Euros.

All in all, Brazil is the historic leader of national-team soccer, despite being in a slightly weaker competition continent than Europe. Germany and Italy are definitely the next two; you could argue that debate endlessly - Italy has one extra World Cup victory, but Germany has more Euro championships and has generally proven themselves to be the most historically consistent country (including Brazil). After that you can talk about Argentina, but even Argentina can't really compare with those top three.

Still waiting to see any sports team I'm a fan of win a championship. Still waiting. STILL WAITING.

does anybody even remember Danny Villanueva.

He was the punter/kicker for the Cowboys during the "Ice Bowl" loss to the Packers. That way back.

Has nothing to do with nothing, just thought i would mention some history of the hispanics being  a Cowboy.

Seems like they went european, then now maybe back to homegrown accruacy.

       New Mexico product.

    yep.

And remember the time we had about a whole family of kickers that that played soccer. three brothers and about two cousins, or something like that. kicking for different teams. Now you just do not see them kicking in the league at all. I know Danny was not very good at field goals, but extra points, automatic.

    All I know is this:

    1. Spain and all the other Latin country teams play like a bunch of little biatches. They get barely bumped into and they look like they got shot by a sniper rifle, flailing through the air and rolling on the ground in agony. Do you EVER see the German players doing that? Ballack got his face cut open and was bleeding all over himself. The official MADE him go to the sideline to get medical attention. Klose got kicked hard in the groin, he was down for a little while, but then he got back up and acted like nothing happened. AND THAT'S WHY THEY'RE GERMAN, and those weak fools are the Spanish. NOT glorious.

    2. Spain can talk to me when they've actually won a World Cup Just one! Maybe even three one day like Germany. Until then, they are nothing to me. They are nothing.

Nevertheless, Spain, congratulations. Congratulations on finally getting your training wheels taken off after over a century of this sport.

BigD, you sound like a little B the way your complaining about it, you should give props to Torres for simply out hustling and out running that player who had him beat by a couple of steps only to get smoked then get scored on. Show some class and respect, I expect more out of a fellow Cowboys fan.

Uh, if you knew anything about soccer, you would know that Lehmann was completely at fault. Torres was smothered by two defenders. Lehmann, who has a history of such foolishness, came out way too far and Torres did what even a high school player could have done and tapped it over his head. Lehmann should have come out a third to a half of what he did, let the two center-backs take care of Torres and then be ready for a shot, which would not have had much of a chance with the situation Torres was in. If Germany had a world-class keeper like Van Der Sar, Buffon, or Cech (even despite his unfortunate Turkey incident), they probably would have one the World Cup in 2006 and likely the Euros this year.

along with football and basketball, soccer is one of the funnest to watch and play. Soccer is like war without the killing. In the above post I was just trying to get BigD to admit that Torres smoked the defender and the goalie, but it doesn't look like he's going to give in.
