I thought it was something about he didn't pass a physical given by Parcells, and being overweight. I don't think Emmitt or LA would have left if it hadn't been influenced by Parcells. Larry Allen was and always will be a Dallas Cowboy!

I think Parcells had a lot to do with both Emmitt and Larry Allen's departure.  Yes, San Fran paid more money than what the Cowboys offered, but it was noted that the Cowboys hated to let him go, and I have also read that Jerry would be interested in signing Larry Allen to a one day contract to retire him.  I think Mickey Spagnola did the article...and if I remember, it read that Jerry was more interested in that idea than Allen, who was just even-keel about the matter.  That's just his personality.

Larry Allen played in 11 Pro Bowls (at three different positions) and was a 9-time All Pro.  He was voted First Team All '90s and was considered at one time to be the best player in the entire NFL; not just the best lineman.  Several different polls list him as one of top 5 offensive linemen of all time.  If I remember correctly him and Parcells never got along from the outset, so his departure was at the very least in part to that, but I am sure money had a hand in that as well.  Nevertheless, he will always be a Dallas Cowboy to me.  There is no question he should be a slam dunk first ballot Hall of Famer in 2013.

I think the deal with Larry was that the Cowboys thought he was on the down side of his career and had slowed some and was due to make something like 7 million in the final year of his contract. Not sure of the numbers but it was an awesome amount. Even a slower Larry Allen is better than any other lineman in the league but San Fran was willing to pay that amount for him so he left. I would had too. I don't blame him for leaving. I'm sure Parcells had something to do with it. Creep. He should be a 1st ballot HOFer but I also thought that about Charles Haley and it didn't happen so who knows.

According to Espn's "First Take", All-Pro guard Larry Allen will be joining the list of possible inductees into the Hall of Fame in 2013, along with other notables Brett Favre and "Big Old" Michael Strahan.  I know I do, but does anyone else see Allen as a first time ballot entry?  Allen, not only the Cowboys most decorated lineman but one of the NFL's most decorated is certainly deserving.  I hope the selection committee has their thinking caps on for this one, even though it's a no-brainer.

Allen is one of the top 3 OL's of all time.  Whomever votes against his getting in should be publicly flayed and then exiled to Siberia.

    Yes

Most certainly a first ballot guy.

Read somewhere that Jerry is going to try to do what he did with Emmitt sign Allen to a 1 day contract and let him retire as a Cowboy

    I'd like that.

I'd choose the Lesser Sunda Islands instead of Siberia. Let em deal with the Komodo Dragons. On topic though, Larry should be a shoe-in.

So that's why he ran off to another team just because they offered him more once he was no longer the player he used to be.  So loyal to Dallas and its fans.  I don't like Allen as much as most because we pretty much sucked while he was here.

Yeah, we really sucked in '94 and '95. And the rest of the time he was here, the decline was squarely on his shoulders.

I think your thinking of Torrin Tucker or someone else, because Allen was one of the most dominating lineman in NFL history. Emmitt also left for more money, I didn't hate him for that, that's the business.

He didn't leave for money. He left to try to extend his career. Jerry let him know his time here was over.

Emmitt left because we ran him out of town, Larry left to chase money, there is a difference.  I don't hate Allen, I just wasn't a fan before 1996 and it may not be his fault but he's one of the players that was on every single one of those teams so I associate him with those bad memories.

Sorry Weapon. Guess i should have read the next post before my last 2..It's easy to forget some haven't been around and seen the whole picture.

Re: Larry Allen joins the HOF Class of 2013

He SHOULD be a first ballot guy... but this 2013 class is shaping up to be something legendary, and if he's not a first ballot guy, it's nothing to be ashamed of. Yesterday, ESPN did a report on the players that have retired this offseason, and who are considering retirement... and there was something like 8 HOF guys, however they included guys like Seau and Ogden who haven't OFFICIALLY retired, but are considering it.

Good luck to both teams, more to the Eagles, and may nobody be injured on Sunday.

     He's first ballot no doubt!

Tony Dorsett played a season or two with the Broncos, but does anyone EVER refer to him as anything other than a Dallas Cowboy. Emmitt too, for that matter.

Larry is a Cowboy and always will be in my eyes. In his early years and for the years that came after that, his was a position you NEVER had to worry about.

Yes, but remember, Allen was the on the SB XXX team, not all bad memories.
Just remember, the best day of all is "DOOMSDAY" Bleeding Silver and Blue since 1970.
