Did Peyton Manning get cut from his team prior when he couldnt win the big one?

I don't know why some fans still don't think tony is the real deal.

I agree with you, I think it was more just a what if scenario.  But I don't think it will matter because he is the real deal, he just needs to quit chasing no talent sluts and keep his head in the game.  That playoff loss was not his fault, it was a team loss, and neither was the one in seatle, the officals stole that one.

Team loss???I hate people that sugar coat sh!t!!!!!!!!!THE FACTS ARE IN BOTH GAMES AT THE "VERY END OF THE GAMES HE COULD HAVE HELD ON TO A BALL TO WIN...HELD ONTO A BALL....LAST YEAR WAS HE NOT IN PLACE TO THROW A WINNING TD AT THE END OF THE GAME???YES HE WAS...."LAST ONE TO HAVE HIS HANDS ON THE BALL TWO YEARS IN A ROW!!!!"...IT KILLS ME THAT PEOPLE TRY TO COVER UP THE TRUTH...SWEEP IT UNDER THE RUG IF YOU WILL."YOU CANT FIX SOMETHING UNTIL YOU ADMIT AND FIND WHATS BROKE"Now i'm not saying were broke or anything like that...just can't stand dilusion and LIES"....He's a man...and he'll man up like men do!!!!And Peyton "NEVER" had the ball in his hands at the end of a play-off game and choked....NOT YET AT LEAST!!!!!...Did i mention a #2 over all pick your comparing droping to a undrafted free agent rookie....GREAT COMPARISIONHuh?HmmConfused....And remember it was a what if question to get different opinions on QB's...Not for psychics to say it'll "NEVER" happen...Never say never!!!

J, don't let your emotion blind you.  did u see that play calling at the end of game?  What kind of route was that, sending terry glenn deep while he's still rusty and keeping everyone else on short yard pattern.  Even Brad Sham question that call ... It was our last play, J.G. should have sent more players down the field.

    I love my dallas Cowboys!!!

J, You're gonna bust a gut one of these days.  Relax fella.  We're all just expressing opinions here.  Every great QB had a running attack including Manning (E James and now J Adehi (?)).  Roger Staubach had Dorsett, Bradshaw had Harris, Montana had Craig, Aikman had Smith.  Who does Tony have at RB that even comes close to these guys?  A great offense still begins with a good running game.  It's a team game and you always win or lose as a team, not a single player.

I disagree. The Seattle loss was pretty much Tony's fault as a holder. Would Grammatica have made the field goal? Maybe. Maybe not. No one knows. What is undebatable is that Tony bobbled the snap, tried to salvage it, and failed. Still, there were other mistakes made by the team earlier that, had they not been made, the game would never have been as close as it was. Ultimately, though, the final result was a loss because that field goal attempt failed and the error for that one play goes to Tony.

Last season, though, against the Giants, it was a team loss. Too many dropped passes (Crayton for example), injured players (TO & even Glenn to some extent), and a defense that let too many crucial plays through (the score right before the half). Like Tony is saying now...the team needs to learn how to "finish"...finish each half strong...finish each game strong...finish the season strong. Overconfidence is a problem they must conquer if they hope to have any chance of winning a playoff game, a Super Bowl, or a spot in Canton.

    Webber:
A great offense still begins with a good running game. It's a team game and you always win or lose as a team, not a single player.

I agree, but would like to add to that "great offense/running game", you also have to have a dang good defense to win come playoff time.

    jcowboy:
HE COULD HAVE WON BOTH GAMES HIMSELF!!!!YES THE KICKER ALSO NEEDED TO HIT THE KICK and YES SOMEONE NEEDED TO CATCH THE TD!!!!"BUT YOU LIVE OR DIE WITH YOUR QB ... Play call was horrible...but he still could have pulled a rabbit from his hat.

    • Play call was horrible (not Tony's fault)
    • Kicker needed to hit the kick (not Tony's fault)
    • Missed TD catch (not Tony's fault)

But he's supposed to be a magician and win "both games himself"? This same "undrafted free agent rookie" who was only playing in his 2nd playoff game and FIRST full season as a starter?

I'm sorry, but I can't agree with you on that. Tony's a great QB, and his performances in the regular season prove he has the potential (Monday Night Football against the Bills is a prime example), but even great QBs struggle when the guys around them falter. Aikman didn't do squat his first rookie year. Was he a great QB then? Sure! He had all the potential, but he couldn't win games by himself; heck, wasn't the only win his first year accomplished with someone else (Walsh) under center? Yeah, Troy won a playoff game in his 3rd year with the Cowboys, and then lost the next playoff game that same year. Development takes time. Sure, I'm comparing a 1st round draft pick here to a free agent, but that's my point... We're supposed to think Tony could win last year regardless...all by himself...despite the bad play calling, dropped passes, etc.? I don't think so. We're not talking about a 1st-round draft pick, or 2nd, or 3rd...or 7th. We're talking about a free agent QB in only his 2nd playoff game ever.

The fact is...NONE of the "names that shouldn't be in the same sentence" with Tony (yet) won ALL of their playoff games in their career. Troy won 11, lost 5. Staubach went 12-6. Elway went 14-8, Bradshaw 14-5, Favre 11-8, Montana 16-7. Not even Bart Starr won ALL of his playoff games (9-1).  Admittedly, we're talking about the elite in that position. But, if they're the best of the best and they couldn't win 'em all, why should you expect better sooner from an undrafted free agent in only his 2nd playoff game?

We shouldn't. It's not Tony's fault alone that Dallas is in a playoff drought. He does have the potential to help the Cowboys overcome that drought, but he can't do it alone. I don't expect it to be instant. No one should.

    -------

Back to the original question of which former Cowboys should be in the HOF? Bullet Bob and Drew should both be in there already; it's a shame they aren't. But I'd also like to see Ed Jones and Jay Novacek in there, as well. (Just my personal opinion.)

Hard to compare QB's from different teams or from the same team, different era. Those two playoff games were not typical at all. Seattle has two guys playing corner that are off the street and we don't exploit that? The bobbled snap was a fluke and had never happened in the past. Garrett's play calling in the Giants game was questionable at best, but it's his first playoff game and he has a hobbled #1WR and a #2 WR that played four downs. He tries to morph into a running team and his starter is over 100 in the first half and partially closes out the half with a 90's vintage 10 minute TD drive. The D does their job allowing only 230 yards BUT gives up 3 offensive TDs. Since we hadn't been a running team all year, who knew this O line was not in running game shape. Takes a lot more energy to run block. Those two games are not indicative of the talent level of those two teams. The course for the playoff losses was set by the quality, or lack thereof, of play in December. There are very few teams that can flip the switch but we were one play from the end of both of those games from advancing. At some point, you've got to let those games go and start anew. That said, I will not annoint this team, regardless of the record, until I see them play well into December. A ten year trend is hard to forget.

    Two questions:...Two answers

If he held the ball would have Dramatica missed inside the 15???...."NO AND WE WIN THE GAME"....PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If he throws a TD on the last play of the game on a 4th instead of the int...."DO WE NOT WIN THE GAME???"...YES WE DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember how all this started...I simply asked if Tony wasn't gonna be our QB,who do people like???And all i heard was "it'll never happen" and why would i say that???Putting on a cape for him...when there's no need!!!I love Romo, just needed to point out a few "FACTS"!!!!I have the utmost faith that he''ll get it done this year...Hence the 3rd times a charm sub-topic i posted...This will be start to Tonys' road to the HOF....

I totally know your right on every point, but my man Coach even with all that said(it's all true)"he" had a chance to win!!!!The seattle was a fluke, blonder or whatever you want to call-it...but "he" still is the one who did it or it happened to per say.Honestly...it won't happen but if there's some kind of fluke or snag at the end of next years play off game...What will people be forced to have stiring in there heads???But again it won't happen and he'll be great!!!

It was our last play, J.G. should have sent more players down the field.

I agree with mostly what you guys are saying...but with all that said...HE COULD HAVE WON BOTH GAMES HIMSELF!!!!YES THE KICKER ALSO NEEDED TO HIT THE KICK and YES SOMEONE NEEDED TO CATCH THE TD!!!!"BUT YOU LIVE OR DIE WITH YOUR QB....WANT PROOF JUST LOOK AT US FROM THE TIME TROY LEFT TIL NOW!!!!I LOVE THIS KID!!!!!BUT YOUR MIXING NAMES IN THAT SHOULDN'T BE THE SAME SENTENCE (YET)....Play call was horrible...but he still could have pulled a rabbit from his hat...All them guys you just named; have any of them had two play-off games end that like in there ENTIRE careers...EVER???With the game in there hands(literally once) and not be triumphant???Go ahead i'll wait....
It is unlikely to happen a 3rd time. If it does, then he becomes Danny White in a lot of minds. Great QB, but couldn't win the big ones.
The road to the Superbowl is full of potholes, speed traps and road rage.

Re: Which Cowboys greats should be inducted into the Hall of Fame next?

Here is my experience with the HOF. In the late '80s, on a family vacation, my family stopped to spend an afternoon there. I remember being so jacked up about it. Then, I remember feeling totally let down by my experience. How could a team with 20 consecutive winning seasons and five trips to the Super Bowl have so few players deserving of Hall of Fame status? It completely defied logic. Tom Landry must have been the greatest football coach who ever lived to accomplish all that he did with such a ragtag bunch of average players. (By the way, while that was sarcastic, I DO believe that Landry was the greatest, but like any coach in any sport, you are only as good as your talent.)

I have never had the urge to return to Canton. It's nice to see the boys from the '90s getting their due from a national audience, but I think the Cowboys HOF in the new stadium will be my HOF of choice. The other has been made illegitimate and irrelevant by the sportswriters over the years. They obviously have little clue as to what their responsibilities are.

The Ring of Honor is great, but put his name where it belongs - on the OUTSIDE of the stadium.

I hope all of these guys go one day.  As you stated, Emmitt and Larry A are locks (Emmitt for sure).  Hope the other guys are recognized otherwise we may be without some Cowboys in the HOF for some time if they are not, which would be a mistake if not recognized accordingly.

I keep hearing there are two locks...Now i agree Emmitt will get the nod,but i don't know if Larry gets in on "this" one...He deserves it and all i just don't think with the Dallas bias they have for us that he might not be the lock everybody thinks.
THE MAN OF THE HOUR......see any similarities???

alright, lets recap who else is eligable in the same class as Larry Allen.   You know Favre will get in.  I don't think Strahan is a absolute either...he has just as much clout as Larry Allen does.  Who else...
