Re: Most improved position
I've never been too concerned about the CB position this offseason. I always knew as long as Newman and Henry returned, we would have one of the better cornerback tandems in the league. Anything we get from Pacman or Jenkins has to be considered a bonus. If you're a GM and don't look at it that way, you'll get your team in trouble. If you're depending on an infamous criminal or a rookie to come in and make an immediate impact, that's not a good situation.
I think the real problems in the secondary stem from our safeties, but that's a discussion for another time.

I would have to say the problems in the secondary stem from injuries. That's why I'm so excited about the infusion of youth, a necessary ingredient in any D-backfield. And as far as the D-backfield overall, I've been hearing lots of good about Courtney Brown, he of the 4.32 forty. Can you imagine our safeties running sub 4.4's? So, in one sense I do agree w/ you a little, Catty, as the improvements in the D-BF are either rookies or criminals. I guess we should say the potential for improvement is greatest in the D-backfield. And I consider Paccy as just a cheap, added bonus.
OK, Ellis is a bit above average.

Re: Most improved position
Well the best thing is we upgraded in all those areas. I believe the secondary was the most critical but we also imptoved the running game and got an upgrade at linebacker with Zack Thomas. And we definately upgraded the coaching staff by getting Houck and Campo. We are a football team that hit a home run in the offseason. Damn we're good.

Wonderful. Now let's hit a home run in the post season.

Weapon_X: I don't think that's the right sports metaphor for what you want the Cowboys to do.
You're right. I want them to shoot a three pointer and then tackle the shortstop in the process while taking the puck to the house.

You Guys and Gals Tell me. What position have the Cowboys made the best upgrades at?
I would say 'Cornerback for $800, Alex', except that this must be a trick question.

How did we get better at cornerback? By adding a non fully reinstated Pacman and a couple of rookies?
I'm not saying we didn't improve at cornerback, but I think we improved at linebacker the most. We replaced a nobody with the most productive linebacker in the NFL. Zach Thomas was a free agency steal, and I think he'll have way more of an impact than any of the rookies we brought in.
Linebacker, Runningback, and Cornerback (in that order).
Our FA LB you seem to think of as a sure thing is as big of a Question Mark as the FA CB we brought in. Pacman missed a season due to behavior, Zach missed a season due to injuries, and I'm not banking he will be able to finish or even play this season. Concussions make QBs retire! So how can That be a good injury to have when you are a LB? A position where he is suppose to hit SOMETHING, EVERY play.
Then you rank RB ahead of CB because we picked up a FA that may not play and 2 rookies......yet the 2 guys backing up MBIII have yet to have 1 NFL carry?????

Re: Most improved position
phatcat:Zach Thomas was a free agency steal,
Thomas is a small LB for a 4/3 defense (5' 11", 228) on a team that plays a 3/4. He will get swallowed up. We have secondary personell bigger than he is. And he is suppose to man the interior on a 3/4 defense? Zach sees spot duty at best.

Re: Most improved position
Not only was CB the most improved position, but it improved by leaps and bounds! Just think..... Reeves / Nate Jones vs Pacman / Jenkins / Scandrick. WOW!

i'm not sure What planet you think I've been on But the Phins defense has been 1 of the best up until last year! You act like Zach Thomas is this well Kept secret only you know about????? Of Course I know who and how good he is????
BUT................... what he has done, has been great, but the fact is concussions and LBs don't mix. I'm confident he will be a playmaker and game changer IF he's on the field.....but that's still a big IF! You don't play through concussions......and No Matter how good you are.....how much heart you have.......that injury can end his career. Especially in the position he plays.
