looked to me like the only time his knee hurt was when he hit a bad shot. wasnt much pain when he was crouching and fist pumping when he holed the birdie putt to send it to a playoffHuh?

Then you weren't paying attention.  He hit several great shots where he doubled over in pain.  You can fist pump and crouch and bend with a torn ACL.  You just put more wieght on the other leg.   Look at the shape tiger is in.  He can fully support himself on one leg easily.  I tore my ACL and went on to play the second half of a football game.  Was out for two weeks.  Then played sports for 3 more years before it was actually diagnosed as an ACL tear.  And that was only because I blew my MCL too or I would have never known.  I was young and dumb and though I could play through the pain.

Doing anything on a torn ACL is painful, much less a sport. Tore mine completely  in half, blew my MCL and had to have cartilage screws put in. Did it during a Sport Karate tournament 10 years ago. Rehabbed and tried again( against doctors orders) but knee couldnt take it.  So I have to give Tiger credit for hanging in there.

I read an article yesterday on how the rest of the PGA season is going to be sub-par because Tiger's taking the rest of the year off.  In looking at it publicity wise, I kind of agree with that.  Golf isn't the same without him.  However there are still many great golfers out there waiting for a chance to shine and now will have their opportunity.  The reason they don't shine now is because Tiger is just that damn good and stands head and shoulders above the rest.

I'm awaiting his return to see if he can not only make the Masters next year but also win it after taking so much time off.  But I'm also not going to stop watching golf this year because it's golf and these guys are simply amazing.

New season, new players, new result!

More power to you guys.  That is one sport I cannot watch.  I love to play it, but watching it on tv all afternoon is not my cup of tea.  That and watching bowling.  I can't do it.  Those announcers put me to sleep with their serene commentary.

For the hardcore golf fan there will be more parity now, and some of the events that might not have been all that exciting could be much more so with Tiger out for a while.  His time off wil certainly hurt the ratings and attendence of many events however, as a lot of people pretty much only watch golf when Tiger is in the mix.

Personally I'm most sorry that he will miss the next couple of major events, and especially the Ryder Cup matches....but this certainly gives the other players a better chance to win some of the big events.

A lot of people are trying to make it seem as though his swing is causing the problem, but the reality is that his work-out regimen, especially with regards to running (often with a weighted training vest) is more responsible for the knee issues.   He could probably take some of the stress of his knee in the swing by flaring his left foot outward a bit, but I don't think he'll have to make many dramatic adjustments in that regard.

Yes, it was because of his workout (the running) that injured his knee. His swing only aggravated it.

As a big fan of Tiger I have the utmost respect for the guy, but it did seem odd that sometimes he reacted very strongly to it, while other times he hardly had a limp at all.    The torn ACL is a problem, but I suspect that the stress fratures to his tibia caused the majority of the pain.....either way it was one hell of an impressive win all things considered!

I sure hope that his surgery/rehab goes well and that he is able to come back soon and pick up where he left off!

I'm sure there were a lot of toasts at the 19th hole the day the news broke, "I have a chance now, great, but poor Tiger."

I'd imagine that for most of the upper eshelon players it is a mixed bag.

On one hand they have a lot better chance of winning the big events, the Majors, WGC events, the Fed Ex Cup...but on the other hand a truly great player always wants to compete against the best!    I'm sure they realize that if they win a Major, there will always be a little asterisk attached to it with Tiger not in the field.....and the attendence and viewership for the events will be significantly less without Tiger there.
