ahh Scott. I see that the bluebird of happiness is still going poo on your birthday cake.
Carlin was the voice of his times, along with Richard Pryor. You may not have liked them, but they were straight shooters and captured the idiosyncracies of the times perfectly.
RIP Carlin.

Im sure he went straight to hell, but i thought he was pretty damn funny.
Well, he did say that praying to God was the equivalent to praying to Joe Peschi and Carlin was an atheist. So, you put 2 and 2 together.
I think the very fact that Carlin talked about religion and politics is the main reason he was so loved by some, and so hated by others.
Having grown up in an extremely strict fundamentalist environment, I've always found it odd that no two people seem to have exactly the same view of "god", and everyone that believes in one seems to pretty much utterly discount anyone and everyone else's view of "god". People that believe in one god reject thousands of other gods, Carlin simply rejected one more than that.
Personally I could not be so certain either way so I could not be an atheist any more than I could be a minister.....although honestly between the two I would definitely lean toward the former.

How exactly is he anti-american? He may have said some pretty weird stuff in his lifetime, but I never heard him say anything I felt was anti-american. For the most part, he just said it as it is.
That's why he wasn't like by a lot of people, because he told the truth on how things were. Maybe you didn't agree with him and maybe you did but he was honest. It's funny how a comedian is more honest and labeled anti-American yet our Political leaders who deceive us every day they're in office are American as apple pie. But I digress so this doesn't turn into a political discussion.
Rest in peace George. You made me laugh with your style of humor.
Well said Quick. Why is it that people are only sorry for people that have passed if they led a similar lifestyle? Hippie/ drug user/ foul-mouted/ anti-American??????? (something for a whole other post) or not, there are many people that are sad to see him gone, inCLUding his family.
Anyway, I thought he was funny and offensive to the point of hilarity. Man, I can't wait to see what people say when Ron White dies. I know he's got a different style of comedy, but I've seen him live twice (once by himself and and once with the other 3 for the final Blue Collar tour in St. Louis in '06), and he cusses more than anyone I've ever seen. Hilarious.

What an ass. I can't wait until you die so I can say the same thing about you.
The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four Americans is suffering from some form of mental illness. Think of your three best friends. If they're okay, then it's you.
