The only thing I don't like about the Cowboys of old.

That would be how chintzy they were about paying their players.  Guys like Staubach, Hayes, Pugh, Lilly, Thomas, Jordan etc. should've been some of the highest paid players in the league, and instead, Tex and Company nickel and dimed them for no good reason, other than to save a few measly dollars.  There was no salary cap then, and these Cowboy legends should have been at least paid salaries that were competitive with other similiarly-talented players in the NFL.

Well first of all when I became a Cowboys fan back in '71, the game was played for the love of the sport and not for money and wasn't a commercialized business like it is now.  As with every, money has become the measurement of success and it's because of the us fans that players are now getting paid multi-millions for being a mediocre player.  The sport is not a sport anymore but a big business.

There's nothing I didn't like about the Cowboys of old and I wouldn't change anything except that I wish we had won more Superbowls out of the 20 years of winning seasons in a row.

New season, new players, new result!

The one thing I don't like about the Cowboys of old was loosing to Pittsburgh twice in the Superbowl.

And being cheated by the refs.   The phantom interference call on Benny Barnes still makes me see stars.
OK, Ellis is a bit above average.

I don't have anything to cry about from Tex's Boys.  If you would like?  I will hook you up with my ex-wife and you could sit around for hours, bitching about yesteryear together.

And what about the "Tipped" pass in SB 5 - against the Colts. That and the Jackie Smith dropped pass. The only thing I wished from the old Cowboys is I would have loved to win just one of those SBs we lost to pittspuke.

Yeah. I wish they'd won that first Super Bowl, too. And I wish they'd beaten Green Bay in the Ice Bowl. But at least the 90's managed to get a little payback against the Steelers. (I'm sure the Bills fans think of Dallas as highly as we think of Pitsburgh.)

Not to make others feel older, but I wasn't born until 1978, so I don't remember those years unless watching the highlights.  Great highlight reels and love watching them, but my experience of "Cowboys of old" would be the Cowboys of the 90's.  I wish they won the NFC championship game in 1994 against the 49ers.  I don't know if that would have changed history the following year or not, but let's just say if they were destined to win the year after (like in 1995) they would have had a 3peat and the first team to obtain 6 superbowls.  That was devistating when they lost.  That is one thing I do not like to remember, that tough loss.

    Yes

Obviously, much has changed from '71 to now (37 years ago).   I can't imagine what the NFL is going to be like 37 more years from now.

People still love to hate him now.  Does he still have his ranch out near the trophy club area?  Thought that was always funny that he chose to live in the DFW area (though I'm sure he has several places he stays).

this is so funny.  But you gotta live it to love it.

And maybe just maybe because there was so much endorsement contracts for them Cowboys, that the "Tex" felt that was enough. And all the Cowboys did was good enough for me.
