    Re: A Jersey Question

Are you talking about the number 31?

Try the Dallas Cowboys proshop, nfl.com, amazon.com, ebay, or many of the sporting good stores online.  Hopefully you'll have some luck there.  As Jeffreydavisjr stated, is rookie season as a Dallas Cowboy he was number 31, so you shouldn't have a problem finding any jerseys there. It is the college number 38 that may be hard to find right now, but I'm sure you'll be able to find it in the fall on the Dallas Cowboys proshop among other places.  Other than that, I don't know what would be so distinctive about his rookie jersey than any other jersey that he had.  Perhaps you can enlighten us on the differences that you and your friend may be looking for.

Maybe his rookie jersey was more flammable, which might have something to do with Skeeter wants it for :P

If I remember right, when Roy first got drafted to the Cowboys, he was number 31, but the back of the jersey said "Roy Williams" instead of "R. Williams" Thats the main difference. But thanks for the links. I'll have a look and see what I can find.

I believe when Roy was drafted in 2002, the nameplate on his jersey read "RO. WILLIAMS" because at the time we had WR Randall Williams as well and his nameplate read "RA. WILLIAMS". Not sure, but I believe other than by request, the only time you can spell out the whole name on the jersey nameplate is if you have two players of the same name (i.e. QB Dave Brown of the Giants and Cardinals several years ago) Duke

That may be hard to find but I am sure you can get one personally made by the Cowboys at their proshop...it would be the same as if you were personalizing your own name on a jersey.  That is the only way that I would know of.

    This is what it said.

I personally like the R.Williams better....but to each is own.

Like Vet told you you can get any name on the name plate in the customizable jerseys.

    Re: A Jersey Question

No offense Duke, but your "Julius Jones - Like the great Emmitt Smith, once a Cowboy, always a Cowboy" signature is a bit out dated these days as he's a Seahawk now, though I'm sure you know that.  You are more entitled to share that opinion of course, by all means, but as you do, feel free to watch our Cowboys tackle his new Seahawk team this Thanksgiving day.  Word in Seattle is he's pretty bitter about how the Cowboys treated him and is carrying a chip on his shoulders about the issue.  I'm sure he doesn't carry the "once a Cowboy always a Cowboy" mentality as our hero Emmitt did years ago despite his unwilling departure after the 2002 season with the Cowboys.  Just a matter of opinion, but I personally do not see the comparison between Emmitt and Julius...I just don't see it.  Perhaps you can explain why you do, because I don't get it.  No offense or anything, just wondering if your signature is old or if you still favor Julius Jones despite his departure with this team.  There's nothing wrong with that if you do, I just wonder why the comparison to the great Emmitt Smith?

    Re: A Jersey Question

Hmm, Kinda funny you say about the name thing, cause what if we had WR Roy Williams and ofcourse our very own SS Roy Williams? Ofcourse we would know them by number but how would we get it by name, cause it would be hard to make it out. Even the broadcasters had a hard time doing it a few years back.

But this thing with once a Cowboy, always a Cowboy, I thought that with two players, one being Emmitt Smith, and the other being Dexter Coakley. And once they both left, I was like sooo mad and angry. Dexter went on to St. Louis and Emmitt went Arizona, but came back to retire 1 year later as a Cowboy.

Wow, I didn't know Dexter Coakley came back to retire as a Cowboy.  Thanks for the enlightenment.  I honestly was unaware of that.  That makes me glad.

Im pretty sure Dexter did not return to retire a Cowboy. Emmitt did however.

    Re: A Jersey Question

I think I may have misread/misinterpreted Skeeter's post now that I am reading over it a second time.  Initially, to me it read like he was talking about both of them returning as Cowboys, but now reading over it again, he may have just been talking about Emmitt.  Sorry about that, that's my fault.  As I stated previously, I was unaware that Dexter Coakley did retire as a Cowboy if that were the case (which it is not) and I guess reading his post about both of those players and then talking about retiring Emmitt retiring reads very closely together, and unfortunately I wasn't bright enough to differentiate between the two differences until in hindsight.  That's my fault for misreading his post.  I'm sorry for the confusion.

    Re: A Jersey Question

None taken USAFVET and thank you for being civil.  I knew I would catch some heat with it someday, but I don't care.  I know its outdated and I know he's a Seahawk now, but he is still currently my favorite player.  I've always told myself that I will love the Cowboys first and a specific player second.  It still rings true today as I've watched my last 2 favorite players (Emmitt and Deion) don different uniforms after their stay in Dallas was over.  Julius will be no different.  I will wish he has a tremendous year and I actually hope he has a great game against us, but I still hope we win on Thanksgiving.  As for being bitter, I totally understand his frustrations with the fans turning on him and sharing carries with Barber.  Unless other circumstances came about, a player would want to spend the rest of his career for the team that drafted him.  Did Barber outplay him last year?  Absolutely.  Did Barber deserve the chance to start in the playoffs?  Totally.  Was Julius put in a position to succeed?  This is where I disagree.  I really don't want to make this another Julius/Barber thread as everyone has already stated their case (Julius is garbage..yada yada yada) and plus Julius is gone and I will support Barber all the way, but I really think Julius can still have a chance to be great.  That's my personal opinion.  I loved watching him run.  He was shifty and had a good stride when in open space.  I, like a lot of people, don't know what happened to his vision last year, but I hope he gets it back and resurrects his career.  I don't see the whole " going down at first contact thing" but I agree, he is definitely easier to bring down than Barber (then again..a lot of backs are).  Maybe that was it?  Maybe fans were accustomed to Barber's unwillingness to go down, that when Julius couldn't break the same tackle, he was considered worthless?  When people question his heart, I think that is what gets under my skin.  How do people know what he's feeling?  When he screamed to the press in 2006 about not getting more touches near the end of the season, didn't Parcells give him 22 carries in the playoffs against Seattle?  Didn't he do really well in that game?  Anyways, to answer your question.  I believe he did because he had so much success in Dallas, but how do we know for sure that Emmitt had that mentality about "always being a Cowboy?"  I know it was probably blown out of context, but didn't he say in Sports Illustrated that "a diamond surrounded by trash" sort of thing?  Personally, I am not comparing Julius to Emmitt at all.  Emmitt had vision, balance, the ability to make a defender miss and Julius had speed, elusiveness, and shiftyness.   But to me he will always be a Cowboys because we drafted him and he did some great things for us.  I really don't care what other people say about how bad he is or that he sucks, I like him and I will still wear his jersey with pride.  Atleast he wasn't Troy Hambrick who I think absolutely was horrible.  He couldn't get 1,000 yards being a full-time back and he practically chased Emmitt off with his mouth.  I wish Emmitt had stayed for the 2 years he remained in the NFL.  We didn't have a consistent running game and he could've mentored Julius to become even better.  Just my opinion.  Too bad we couldn't give him a ring before he left.  Oh well.  GO COWBOYS!!!

Thanks for the comment and Happy 4th to ya!!!

     take care,

    Duke
