The recent threads discussing players who "deserve" to be in the Hall of Fame has brought up some names that I say will never even earn a single Hall of Fame vote; i.e. Bill Bates.  After reading many of the names of players who had great Cowboy careers, but won't be enshrined in Canton anytime soon, I began to wonder if some voters would consider Drew Bledsoe to be a Hall of Fame worthy QB.  It's hard to do, but I'm trying to look beyond his time in Dallas and his costly interceptions at the worst possible times.

After being chosen #1 overall in 1993, Drew McQueen Bledsoe played 14 years durable years in the NFL.  In those 14 years he only failed to play in at least 13 games twice, in the famous 2001 season and in the infamous 2006 season.  Though he didn't start in the game, he did get a Super Bowl ring with the 2001 Patriots and was part of the reason why they won the AFC championship game.  His QB rating was only 77.1, but he did pass for 251 TDs in his career.  Bledsoe is fifth in NFL history in pass attempts, seventh in yards, with over 44,000, and 13th in touchdown passes.

 If, by some minor miracle, he were to get into the Hall of Fame he would probably be remembered by most as a Patriot (just as Alworth is thought of as a Charger and Smith as a Cardinal).  Still, maybe he would deserve at least a few votes over his eligible years... though to many he'll be remembered as the guy who was in New England before Tom Brady, the guy who was in Buffalo before (chuckle) JP Losman, and the guy who is was Dallas before Tony Romo.

Doubtful that Bledsoe would make it in...maybe if candidates were elected on stats alone ,without consideration for impact on the league, players and coaches during his career...as well as his involvement with the community. Sure, a few players lucked in on reputation alone (Namath) and still others left out because of who they played for (Any number of DC players), but overal, the election of HOF members has more to do with impact on the league than stats.

    Bledsoe was never a very high profile player, never flashy, not all that consistant, and really never left a team...but was replaced each time. Not exactly what the committee is looking for in a player to represent the league. I sure wouldn't lose any sleep wondering about this one. Even if you toss out his short time in Dallas, he was never considered a "High Impact" player.

Gosh, I don't see him getting in, but you can never tell about these HOF voters.  I just don't think he's done anything to really distinguish himself.

I agree 100%, which makes it even more mind-boggling that Bob Hayes never got in.

If Drew deserves it so does Vinnie.  Just say no to dopes.

Drew had too many mediocre seasons and interceptions, not to mention both of his notable backups are much better than he is so I doubt he will ever get in. Good guy, mediocre quarterback with a penchant for taking dumb sacks and throwing interceptions to kill scoring opportunities.

Drew has a slim chance, if only for the fact that he did play for the Patriots. I wouldn't be surprised to see an all-out blitz by ESPN around the time of his eligibility. They'll run highlight clips, he'll be the subject of discussion on all of the shows, such as Pardon the Interruption, Around the Horn, etc. and you won't hear anything as loudly as you will hear "Drew Bledsoe." That is, if they are not busy slobbering all over the Red Sox, Yankees, current Patriots, and/or Celtics at that moment. I am so sick of the national sports scene being all about the east coast. If it weren't for Romo's private life being bandied about or reporters covering every move T.O. makes in hopes that he will implode at any moment, I don't think we'd see nearly the coverage of our team that we do see now.
