    CubeJack:

The recent threads discussing players who "deserve" to be in the Hall of Fame has brought up some names that I say will never even earn a single Hall of Fame vote; i.e. Bill Bates.  After reading many of the names of players who had great Cowboy careers, but won't be enshrined in Canton anytime soon, I began to wonder if some voters would consider Drew Bledsoe to be a Hall of Fame worthy QB.  It's hard to do, but I'm trying to look beyond his time in Dallas and his costly interceptions at the worst possible times.

After being chosen #1 overall in 1993, Drew McQueen Bledsoe played 14 years durable years in the NFL.  In those 14 years he only failed to play in at least 13 games twice, in the famous 2001 season and in the infamous 2006 season.  Though he didn't start in the game, he did get a Super Bowl ring with the 2001 Patriots and was part of the reason why they won the AFC championship game.  His QB rating was only 77.1, but he did pass for 251 TDs in his career.  Bledsoe is fifth in NFL history in pass attempts, seventh in yards, with over 44,000, and 13th in touchdown passes.

If, by some minor miracle, he were to get into the Hall of Fame he would probably be remembered by most as a Patriot (just as Alworth is thought of as a Charger and Smith as a Cardinal).  Still, maybe he would deserve at least a few votes over his eligible years... though to many he'll be remembered as the guy who was in New England before Tom Brady, the guy who was in Buffalo before (chuckle) JP Losman, and the guy who is was Dallas before Tony Romo.

Hmmmm, do I dare???? LOL.  Seriously though, Bledsoe has the numbers that would put him there, but then again so does Vinnie Testaverde.  IMO, he might eventually get there, but I don't think it will be automatic like it will be for say a "Tom Brady", "Brett Favre" or even a " Larry Allen" (couldn't resist, sorry cube).
Just remember, the best day of all is "DOOMSDAY" Bleeding Silver and Blue since 1970.

Drew had too many mediocre seasons and interceptions, not to mention both of his notable backups are much better than he is so I doubt he will ever get in. Good guy, mediocre quarterback with a penchant for taking dumb sacks and throwing interceptions to kill scoring opportunities.

I also don't think he'll have much chance at getting in, but I can't say it would be because of his interceptions.  Joe Namath threw something like 220 interceptions in 140 games, and didn't even throw a single TD pass in the game he's famous for.  Heck, Tarkenton also seemed to always hit the wrong team's players right between the numbers.  As much as I despise Brett Favre, he's a guaranteed Hall of Famer and he has more interceptions than anyone else!

Seriously, I don't see him getting in but I also never thought Warren Moon would get in either.  Maybe on a weak year he'll have a slim chance.

Ah, Namath.  Another name to add to the "Most overrated of all time" list.  Guaranteed a win when his team was a huge underdog and it made him famous.  My question:  "Isn't there pretty much always someone guaranteeing a win when their team is an underdog?"
OK, Ellis is a bit above average.

I have to agree with that one.  Namath never did much as far as statistically or personally other than loudmouth a guaranteed win.  Now he's more famous for wanting to kiss sideline reporters.  I figure if being a loudmouth and guaranteeing a win earns a Hall of Fame spot then they must be dusting off Plaxico Burress' area.  He also almost got the score correct!

Let's see, loud mouth, guaranteeing wins, wanting to kiss sideline reporters...... hey Cube, I think I'll be on the next ballot!

If they put Drew Bledsoe in the Hall of Fame, he can be his own statue.

    Now THAT is funny!

So I wonder... if Drew Bledsoe WERE to somehow get voted into the Hall of Fame would they take his bust away and replace it if Romo were to get in also?

Durable is the only thing impressive about him. He was fifth in pass attempts. If you throw the ball up enough eventually you'll complete something. That explains his passing yards and touchdown passes. Further, though he got the Pats to the big game, he never actually played in that game.

He didn't lead a team in a Superbowl victory, his stats sucked when you look at his per pass stats. He was never the highest rated player in his respective position at any point of his career, nore was he in the discussion. Bledsoe was an average QB with a long career and a lot of snaps.

Unfortunately that's also the argument that many anti-Cowboys fans use against Emmitt Smith.  They say that he had longevity and a great line and therefore wasn't all that great since he carried the ball more than anyone else in his career.
