    Peyton out 4-6 Weeks

Colts' Peyton Manning out for 4-6 weeks

Peyton Manning had surgery on an infected left bursa sac in his left knee on Monday, which could knock the Pro Bowler out of the season opener. So now the Colts are looking at Jim Sorgi, possibly, as their starter for the first game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

    Jim Sorgi.

And this brings me to the Cowboys.

There is a lot of consternation about the backup quarterback situation with Brad Johnson. Some wanted him cut last year. Some want him gone now. I'm not being Kevin Bacon here in Animal House, saying all is well at the end of the movie. I understand the worry.

Chris Simms' name has been mentioned as a possibility. Take a look at Simms. I might have looked at Bruce Gradkowski after he was cut by Tampa Bay but St. Louis claimed him. I'm for keeping a third QB on the 53-man roster this year to learn the offense to be the No. 2 in 2009.

But Johnson actually had his best showing of the off-season at the veteran mini-camp in June. No, he wasn't zinging the ball down the field, but that was never his game, even when he took Tampa Bay to a Super Bowl.

If something happened to Tony Romo and he were to miss 4-6 weeks, Johnson's not an awful option. Some things would have to change in the offense, obviously, to compensate for the differences in the quarterbacks' games.

Now, I think Manning will be back for the opener and all will be right in the Colts' world. But what happens if he goes down in the season? What happens if New England loses Tom Brady?

As a former Cowboys coach used to say, you can't just call 1-800-QUARTERBACK.

Before I take this post down the gutter... What exactly is that?

That's a big lie, Salty. You can dial 1-800-QUARTERBACK. The problem is that Vinny Testaverde answers the phone.

There's a little cavity between your knee cap (patella) and the skin covering you knee cap. That area has fluid in it and is there to help ease friction between the patella and the overlying skin. However, if there is too much friction, the sac can rupture or become infection.

Think of tripping and falling knee first onto concrete. If the sac isn't there, you've got a busted patella for sure. Conversely, if you get enough long term high impact friction from the patella to the bursa sac, then the sac can become infected.

This does not sound like a good time at all... Well, I like Peyton Manning... Hope he recovers well. He has to be nearing the end of his run right?

Yeah, someone has to counter-balance those Patriots.  I'd think the Colts and Chargers have the best shot out of any AFC team.

Vertical Testical. That's all you need is to have him come back.

I don't think it will affect him any this season.

I wonder if an infected Bursae is actually water on the knee.

I'm guessing that an inflamed bursa is water on the knee. Infected is another story entirely.  You could end up with a subcutaneous staph infection that would require the surgery. But what do I know? I sell real estate.

I did have a favorite bartender of mine end up with a staph infection on her cheek, from the exterior. Nasty looking thing too. She still has a knot there over a year later.

colts have a high winning %, the opening games shouldnt hurt them in the long run. if theyre in the playoffs, same differernce. granted, that a good division who seems to have 3 teams fighting to get into the post season, 1 game may make a difference. even though i feel that team is probably on the downfall rather then going up.
