    Cowboys vs. Arizona, worth getting?

My brother is the world's only true Arizona Cardinals fan.  He lives in Las Vegas and has season tickets to the Cardinals.  Because he's a season ticket holder, he's among the first people able to by more tickets.  Those tickets are sold in packages of two games.  Since I'm in El Paso, it's actually closer for me to get to Phoenix than it is to go to Dallas.  Here's the problem; I'd also have to buy tickets to the New Orleans vs. Arizona game as part of the package.  Would you take a shot at these tickets in order to see the Cowboys play at an opponent's stadium?  I don't know if I'd be too interested in a Saints/Cardinals game, but it may be worth it just to take a trip to see my baby brother.

You could always scalp the Saints / Cards tickets.  Of course, if it doesn't sell out, you probably won't get your money back, but it will save you the gas of another round trip.

I think that is a nice thought to be able to spend time with your brother, but the thing is, there are no guarantees that you'll be in the same area in the stadium.  Depending on availability, you may end up completely on the other end of the stadium than his seats may be located, which isn't really any fun and negates part of the purpose of why you're buying them in the first place, particularly if you're stuck with the Cards/Saints game.  Sure, you'll get to see the Cowboys which may be worth it, but even the Cowboys do not outweigh spending time with your brother, you know?  Unless you can obtain tickets close to where he is seated, it's certainly a difficult choice, particularly in unfamiliar territory.

One thing about the Cowboys/Cardinals games in Arizona... there are always more Cowboys fans than Cardinals fans.  I'm still not sure about what to do since I'm not thrilled by the Saints/Cardinals game.  What I AM excited about is to go back to Las Vegas with my brother after the game.  I haven't been to Vegas since my brother's wedding on Oct. 31, 2006.  I love Vegas, been there several times for fun, when UNLV and UTEP were both in the WAC, for competition, and also was there for my honeymoon.

My wife and older son would be at the game too, so I won't be totally alone even if my bro and I don't sit together... which would probably be better considering how much we argue during Cowboys/Cardinals games.

The Saints/Cardinals game is a preseason game.  In reality the Cardinals are charging double for the Dallas game!

Cardinals | Ticket plan to try and limit amount of Cowboys fans

    Thu, 17 Jul 2008 11:39:54 -0700

Mike Tulumello, of the East Valley Tribune, reports the Arizona Cardinals are trying to limit the amount of single-game tickets available to try and have as many Cardinals fans in the stadium as possible. Ticket sales appear to be slower than usual this season because the team is requiring fans who want to buy tickets for the game against the Dallas Cowboys to also buy tickets for the preseason game against the New Orleans Saints. The Cardinals would like to sell about 60,000 season tickets, which would leave 3,000 to sell for individual games.

I'm not surprised by this at all.  It's about half the drive to Phoenix that it is to Dallas from El Paso, so many of the local fans would go to the Cardinals game when the Cardinals were in the NFC East.  Now it's not as common of a game, but I'm sure the local fans still would rather drive to Phoenix than Dallas, especially with the current gasoline prices.  Every year at Sun Devil Stadium there were more Cowboys fans than Cardinals fans.  I guess they're tired of it and want to start some kind of tradition.

I'll still get the tickets if I can.  I haven't been to a Dallas game in person since the preseason of 1981 or so.  Maybe it was 84.  Either way, it was a preseason game at Texas Stadium against the Oilers BEFORE it was called the Governor's Cup... and the Oilers had some guy named Oliver Luck at QB.  My wife and sons have NEVER been to a live game, so hopefully I can score some tickets.  I'd even go to the stupid Saints/Cardinals preseason game to spend time with my brother.
