To recap for those who may have missed it, Roy was fined one game check and suspended for the Carolina game for repeated violations of the Roy Williams rule.

He deserved it.  Been fined, been warned, what else was the league suppose to do?

Wow?  Wonder what happened to the original thread?  I get the hint.  Hmm  Go Roy!

Enjoy the vacation and get some rest Roy, but LAY OFF THE COOKIES! Then come back and kick some serious ass in the playoffs. A Superbowl and a half dozen monster hits in the playoffs will shut the haters up!

I used to like surprises, then Jerry Jones came along.

Just too damn big, once threads get to around 40 pages now, they will be re-set and replaced with an empty version.

Being I can't quote you now, whoever wrote the strong safety 101 for me:

Something that you mentioned and I thought of but neglected to mention was that the SS was the last line of defense.  In other words in the worst case scenario if the runner gets by the line and the backers he's our last hope.  That does not mean he should be racking up tackles.  Now I really don't care how many tackles he gets.  He can lead the team in tackles for all I care as long as we're winning.  But I would like to see the consistency in the cover game as well.  With defenses being played nowadays it does require him to cover the deep ball, not just the shallow stuff.  Other teams have realized this weakness with him and have exploited it.  He does do a good job at times blanketing the receiver and breaking up passes, but it's not as consistent.  Newman does get burned at times, but he does a better job overall. While you addressed this to all that talk about how bad our secondary is, know that I never mentioned anything about our pass coverage being bad.  And apparently some of the people who responded to your message took me to be a Roy hater.  I never once hated on Roy.  I said he struggles with the pass coverage.  I don't necessarily think that sounds like some bold statement towards Roy.  I also went on to say that I hope Roy remains a Cowboy for a long time.    Oh, and a FYI for you... no, I do not get my "info" from here.  Rather I like hearing other people’s opinions and discuss things without getting offended or defensive over what other people feel.

You just had to go there.  You couldn't resist, huh?  Whether one likes or dislikes Roy's play, most of us "haters' usually keep it on topic (about Roy), but you 'lovers' just have to make it personal, huh?  I swear...

If Roy wants me to get back on his bandwagon again for the first time since 2005, he needs to force at least one turn-over in every single game he plays in the rest of our season, including the play-offs.

Exactly.  Well said.  But sadly, some have to make it personal every time, instead of sticking to the said topic at hand.

I'm assuming this is to me.   lol

Although I quoted your post, and some of my post was directed to you specifically, I also tend to add other things that might address posts made by other people, sometimes even in other threads.

I do this rather than write many smaller posts to each person specifically, for reasons that I hope are fairly obvious.

The jist of my response was that while Roy does struggle in coverage, pretty much all safeties do, especially SS, since they are usually closer to the line, and therefore have more ground to cover than the FS who usually plays deeper.

I don't know if it was your post that said that Roy's main job was coverage, but my point was, regardles of who said it, that particular assertion is just wrong!   Coverage is sometimes part of Roy's position, but it is not a primary function of his position.....especially in Wade's defensive scheme.

I do believe that a lot of the reason that Roy gets so much grief is that he has one of the toughest positions to play in the game....with a lot of different responsibilities, and while it's asking a hell of a lot for anyone to live up to the expectations he set during his first season with the 'Boys, if one looks closely at his stats, he is actually playing very close to that level right now....which definitely places him in the upper eschelon of all SS in the league!!

No matter what anybody says, Roy is still a playmaker on this defense.  He hasn't been lately but he will be again!!!

I meant the media, but if the shoe fits....... LOL. That's man-lover to you buddy. There's a difference. Man love is what you have for your fishing buddy, where you fart and drink beer together. Love love is broke back mountain shart.

It's a bit ironic that you said that, considering that of all the posters here, you have without a doubt directed far more personal shots at me than anyone else!! Stick out tongue

Luckily I have very thick skin, and a healthy sense of humor, and honestly find it difficult to get too worked up over anything someone says to me over the internet!!

I'm often labeled as a Roy "homer", when in fact he is not even among my top 10 favorite current players on this team, or top 20 among all time Dallas Cowboys!!  I do however realize how much he does contribute to this defense, and considering that he's easily in the top few players in the league at his position, find it highly unlikely that we'd be able to get anyone better to fill his shoes!
