    2008 Free Agency Discussion:

The NFL off-season will heat up once Feb. 29 hits, signaling the start of the free agent signing period.

The Cowboys must make decisions on prominent unrestricted free agents such as Flozell Adams and Ken Hamlin, but they also have cap room to address other positions.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming free agency start?

    Re: 2008 Free Agency Discussion:

depends on who they resign. obviously if we resign flo and hamlin then we dont have a number of huge needs but just a few. if hamlin lvs that becomes a position of need, and same with flo. if each lvs their respective position we have to add depth to each.

i would like to see berrian and henderson reach free agency, i think the cowboys can get on of them

as for corners i dont think the top three on the market will actually be in the market. samuel is probally the most likely to lv, while asomaghu will probally stay and i heard trufant is working on a longer deal. samuels looking to break the bank so if we sign him we might not be flexible enough to make other moves. its all about putting the best team on the field for the cheapest price.

The Cowboys first goal in Free Agency is to sign our Free Agents already. Than go out there into the Free Agency game and sign key free agents that could help this team. Wether it be WR, or Corner.

Well, let's see. I think we need to spend the money on a CB, go for Trufant or someone like that. As for any other FA moves, pick up some security at OL but other than that let it ride, sure take a look at some of the WR on the market if and only if Glenn calls it quits. We need to focus on the draft more with the WR and RB position (someone to be a dual threat with Barber). I did read we are taking a look at Zach Thomas, a little on the older side but might come cheap and give some great experience. Berrian and the OL Starks from the Steelers would be the only other ones I might take a look at. The draft we need to look at RB, WR, and CB, we have great youth everywhere else. the DL, LB, QB, and most of the OL are young enough to hold for a while.

Redskins owner, George Preston Marshall, met the Dallas team with opposition. The owners bought "Hail to the Redskins" and refused to allow Marshall to play the song. Marshall changed his mind, and Dallas, was granted an NFL franchise on January 28, 1960.

Definately reciever... Crayton has proven his lack of worth, and Tony has the arm to get it done... he needs another impact weapon and we'll see more records broken, and maybe a playoff game won, or two?

Now, defensively... yes, they crapped the bed at times... but, look at this... if we had scored our average against the Giants in that game... which was something like 36, we would have won. The D has some blame... but that offense did nothing down the stretch, while the D was doing what it had been doing. Tony just needs guys he can trust, and you can only throw to TO and Witten whom are both doubled most of the time, so many times. Crayton couldnt catch the clap in a guamanian whorehouse! Tony needs one more go to guy out there, and then its Super Bowl or bust!

Barber can get it done... and you add Mendenhall to that power,,, than we have an offensive juggernaut! and the D can give up 21 a game, and we win!

Come on, the O struggled at times this year 2. Don't be blind. Look at our last 3 games of the year, it was pathetic. We need some improvements on both sides of the ball. The O was awesome, but can use fefinement, our Secondary needs to be shored up, then we are a great team.

I was saying that it is the O that needs more improvement than the D... I won't argue... we need some improvement, and quick... before all of this money Jerry is spending comes back to bite us in the jimmy!

I would hope the Cowboys get Drayton Florence CB, Chargers. Florence will be a huge upgrade at nickel CB and could push Henry for his starting job.

    Re: 2008 Free Agency Discussion:

The Dallas Cowboys could use a young CB with enough potential to one day be the starting CB. Henry isn't getting any younger, while Newman isn't exactly young himself. It's time some younger CBs are either drafted or signed in free agency (more preferably drafted).

If a solid, middle aged RB comes up in free agency, I would suggest we take him. I'm not convinced that Thompson should be the main backup to Barber, and my guess is that Julius Jones won't remain in Dallas by the start of next season.

Although I would rather see Philips draft a young WR (somewhere in the 1st or 2nd round), I'd be happy if the Cowboys acquired a solid WR through free agency too (though not if the player is older than 30). Sam Hurd may become a solid player one day, but I still think he has a couple seasons to go before we can label him as the 3rd WR. Terry Glenn and Terrell Owens probably won't remain in Dallas for long, so I think it's best that the team stocks up on recieving talent to prepare for the day both talented WRs either retire or join another team.

Finding an offensive linemen at LT I believe is a high priority. Adams will only be more likely to get injured as he gets older. Plus, I think now is the perfect time to start grooming a good LT to take over once Adams retires.

Has anyone ever thought about the Dallas Cowboys perhaps searching for a fullback in free agency? I don't know how many solid ones are available (if there are any), but I think a talented FB would definitely help Barber become a more effective RB, as well as help protect Romo in pass protection.

If a stud defensive linemen showed up in free agency, I would like the Cowboys to try to take the player. Marcus Spears and Chris Canty did show improvement last season, but I don't think either of them are going to turn out to be stars at their position.

    Re: 2008 Free Agency Discussion:

What we do with our own free agents is the determining factor. Flo, Hamlin, Barber and Canty all need to get a deal done. I was hoping to see more movement with those guys prior to the Feb. 29 date but I guess not.

A veteran no.2 receiver would be nice, too depending on how confident they are that Glenn can play next year. I don't have any confidence that he can play an entire season.

A veteran corner is probably not going to happen. A. Samuel is too expensive and M. Trufant will probably be franchised. I expect we will use the draft there to try and improve there. Hopefully, Jacques Reeves will go somewhere else and even better, it will be some team on next year's schedule. Then, you just adjust the game plan to throw 8 yard outs against him all game. What a slug!

It's going to be interesting to see what J.J. does in FA and the draft. I still think he will do something dramatic and hopefully it will be something good for the team...but that ain't always a given with Jerry.

I think J.J. is going to me more dramatic than when Parcells was here.  I don't expect anything as dramatic as McFadden, but I think we'll grade well in the draft (or atleast I hope).  We'll see how well we bode without Jeff Ireland.

    Re: 2008 Free Agency Discussion:

Find the best available Wr or CB at the best lowest price, but I don't think we should over pay on either one since the CB might not see a whole lot of action as the Nickel, and the WR might not see alot either. Unless we do not have TG and he can beat out Crayton, which I'm sure a top WR can.
