Confidential information about draft prospects AGAIN leaked to the media!

In 2006, Vince Young's wonderlick score of 6 was leaked to the media by a rogue scout. That was supposed to remain confidential according to league rules!

Last year, confessions by Calvin Johnson, Amobi Okoye, and Gaines Adams that they smoked marijuana in the past were leaked to the media by a certain rogue GM/scout/coach. They were to remain confidential according to league rules!

Now, it has happened AGAIN! Pro Football Weekly reports that positive drug tests for marijuana for Kansas CB Aqib Talib and Michigan WR Mario Manningham have surfaced. Talib admitted to his positive drug tests at the Combine, while Manningham initially denied his drug tests, but later sent a leter to the league admitting them! Again, those were to remain CONFIDENTIAL! A rogue coach, scout, or GM is at work here, just like the previous two years! DESPITE a memo sent by Commissioner Goodell prior to last year's draft about such leaks, someone STILL hasn't gotten the memo. Rest assured, it is someone with a low draft pick in the first round, or someone targeting these two in the second round. Only teams like those would do such a thing to create a stigma against them and cause them to drop right to them!

Why should this be confidential anyway?  For me, trying to hide this only makes the football look dirty.  Get it out there.  I am not condemning those two boys.  I tried pot.  Not proud of it.

Why should confessions by players prior to the draft be confidential? First of all, it's league policy. Second of all, it is to protect the integrity of the draft. Let me explain to you how the latter is true.

When scouts, GMs, and coaches like to leak this stuff about ANY player, they don't do so because it's the "morally right thing to do". They do so to create a stigma about them so that teams at the top end of the draft pass up on them, and the teams at the lower end of the first round, or teams without a first round pick, are then able to get him. It is no coincidence that teams at the lower end of the first round or without first round picks are the culprits; they get this out so that top prospects can fall right into their hands! In other words, these people are leaking this stuff to try and rig the draft; the guys who snitch to the media about these confessions are ultimately the ones who want to draft them (and they don't have high first-round picks). There were two consecutive failed attempts in each of the last two years.

And that's only the tip of the iceberg. Some teams could resort to unfounded and potentially false allegations to rig the draft. Such was the case when allegations of drug use against Dan Marino surfaced prior to the 1983 draft. That, coupled with an unproductive Senior season, triggered his slide to 27, when the Dolphins finally grabbed him. Those allegations of drug use against Marino remain unproven to this day.

Here's the problem with that theory:  All of the teams already knew about the failed drug tests.  It was the public that didn't know.
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine!

That's exactly why these attempts to rig the draft ultimately fail. And besides, these players ARE promised confidentiality in these interviews.

Thanks for bringing that up. This thread has outlived its usefulness.
