Spagnola on the radio: rips on Roy

Here is a recap someone made Spagnola on the radio this morning.  I have never heard of Mick going off on a CURRENT player, but man does he let Roy Williams have it...

    Mick:

    • Still the offseason workouts are taking place.
    • Hard Knocks is getting read to invade here.
    • The OTA sessions will get going on May 20th and will run 4 weeks.
    • Even though it's only helmets and shorts you get an idea of who has good speed, quick feet and moves well.
    • Hard Knocks is for the fans. It's not really going to affect the team. The team was 5-11 the year before and was 5-11 that year. It had no effect. Remember this was Quincy and Hutch fighting for the QB spot. It doesn't amount to a hill of beans.
    • To me Roy Williams is looking for a soft spot to lay his head on. He doesn't fit this defense? What about the other defense? Those in the know that I talked to said this defense is perfect for Roy. A gap always needs to be filled and offer support for the run game. That didn't help him did it. What defense can help him play better at this point? My opinion is that for a guy that signed a five year deal two years ago, he becomes too expensive to release or trade. To me it has to be a put-up or shut-up season because the next year he costs less to get rid of. People need to quit making excuses for him including coaches that have in the past. Campo being back will expect more from him and hold him to a higher level I think. He has ostracized himself from the rest of the team. He doesn't socialize with the guys anymore at all. Don't come in at 7:00 to workout then leave before the rest of the team gets there. Here's a novel idea. Carry out your assignments and get better. Don't brag about being a 5-time Pro Bowler, make a play. He doesn't have to cover like Woody did. I'm just not buying he's not comfortable with what they do on defense. I'm beginning to believe it may be the other way around. They aren't comfortable with what HE does on defense.

It is what it is...I don't see anything wrong with what he said.  Everything he said was correct, and he could have been even more critical if he chose to.  The fact is, Roy has been a defensive liability for AT LEAST the last two seasons.  He really needs to get his head in the game if he wants to continue on in The NFL, it's all up to him.

Yea I pretty much agree with all that Mickey stated. My mind alwasy goes back to the conversation Roy had when he stated he has given his life to Jesus, etc.etc. Since that time he hasn't really been the same. I think he is lacking that "I'm going to kick your butt!" mentality. If he get's that back I believe he will be ok. I still think he will remain a Cowboy for years to come.

I have seen 83 consecutive Cowboys games.

Roy should be getting pissed with all this negative press, hopefully that fire he had in the begining of his career comes back

I wonder if Spagnola would rip on him if he did at least on interview with Spagnola in the past two years.

I think whatever fire he had for the game is gone.

I can remember playing in my frontyard in my Tony Dorsett jersey just imagining what it would be like to play for the Cowboys. This guy has that dream and cannot get his damn head right. I mean we've seen him play well in the past. What the hell happened? UGH....

I need to punch something now.

If you need anything please don't hesitate to ask someone else first.

I have only been reading Mickey S. for 2-3 years, from what I read the guy is a BIG homer. The guy finally calls out RW and thats only because of that interview he gave. Maybe I'm used to the press over here in NYC where they really get on a player if he does not preform for a top paid guy. If RW played here in NY the press would have ate him up a long time ago.
